Kamala Khan is coming up, who is Pakistani-American however so not quite the same as Indian and she can’t audition since the character is a teen (and it’s on Disney+ first but MCU is connected so Kamala will end up in film eventually). But if the goal is that she wants more superheroes who look like her and have a similar story like she said in the interview she is going to have it.

Ok... This was Michelle’s FIRST pageant and she did great. She does not have the typical body for pageants (short and muscular) she doesn’t know how to walk in heels, and yet she made fourth place. She she be proud of herself. So I was confused at the end when she was speaking on how “in-feminine” and unworthy she felt.

It indeed does not mean that a few pounds more is a big deal. People can also weigh too little, and models certainly do, most of the time. But people who feel empowered when they do not need to be skinny, are often the extreme obese people. It is very popular to say Lizzo is beautiful, but no, so is certainly objectively obese, unhealthy and also not pretty in any context. Somewhere between Michelle and Lizzo there is a vague line, where you can be fit or chubby and still be in perfect health. But once you start being unable to sit in airplanes, you are just too overweight, and nothing should stop you from abstaining from the chocolates, beers, fast foods etcetera.

As an ex pageant girl (from another lifetime!) she KILLED her first interview and that is the HARDEST part of pageants! She played off her trip fantastically. It happens a lot. And swimsuit section. It’s not just about flaunting a body. It’s about highlighting and showing love for your body and taking care of it. It’s all about your perception of what you are doing. When you are walking out in that swim suit you are showing that you take eat great, exercise, and keep your body and mind healthy. Her beauty dress was so pretty. Her on stage answer was great. She made eye contact with both judges and the woman asking questions. She should feel hella proud. It’s takes some woman YEARS to even make top 5! Bravo! Also, Savannah looks like a vet. Just hearing her voice answer that on stage question, she has been around this life a while!

@-.MidnasLament.-
@-.MidnasLament.- 3 года назад
More deserving? She looked great and gave great answers. She’s just as deserving as the other girls. Some women are more well spoken, graceful, or fit than others. It doesn’t always matter how long you train. Michelle had top level coaches for this and she’s already beautiful and well spoken which is a huge advantage. Don’t downplay her placing just because she has a camera crew for her channel and only did it with two months practice. She worked her ass off same as the others.

As someone who took part in the Miss Vietnam beauty pageant, I was so thankful that the bikini section was not part of the pageant and was replaced with an ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) section. We previously had a plus size 1st princess as well. For us, it was very empowering and I found confidence in myself as well as became close friends with the other 9 pageant sisters. Yes, we called each other pageant sisters instead of contestants because something that was drilled into our minds was the pageant was not a competition with each other but with ourselves.

Right, but if the goal is to come away from that type of thinking, then beauty pageants are just keeping us within this cycle of thinking, and aren't helping us move forward. So even if they are representative of real life, they are holding us back from a positive change of thought.
@HoneyDaengdej
@HoneyDaengdej 5 лет назад
I agree that we should move away from that type of thinking.. and while using beauty pageants as the platform (or tangible representation for visualization of the problem) can be really helpful when discussing the real issue our society has with beauty standards and gender roles- I don't think we can say with 100% certainty that its the pageants fault that this type of thinking continues to exist. It really is a chicken and egg situation, because if there wasn't demand for a certain type of product, that product will not succeed (thus will stop existing). Which is why 2018 is becoming a year of so much change, especially in media and the corporate world, because consumers have started to realize that they have a say in what is offered. We began to put our money where our mouths are (for example with buying cruelty-free products, supporting film with representation, etc) and it's really making a difference. You can even see how pageants like these are changing to respond to public opinion.. Certain pageants getting rid of the swimsuit portion, including more diverse candidates, etc... however these are just the first steps and I hope we continue to try to make media and our society more accepting.. maybe that means getting rid of beauty pageants all together, maybe it means that these pageants need to change a LOT.. I don't really know.. but its conversations like these that are necessary to make a change (which is why I was so glad Michelle made this video) (ps. sorry for the essay haha I'm really passionate about this topic)
@nataliawhite
@nataliawhite 5 лет назад
Totally agree
@derekg5563
@derekg5563 5 лет назад
@Honey Daengdej: I would say it's actually not a chicken or egg problem when it comes to the comment you responded to, because regardless of what caused what, it wouldn't change the fact that the beauty pageant would reinforce it. So for example, if it's the thinking that caused the pageant, that doesn't change the fact that having the pageant would reinforce that thinking. If I like x, I might make a group about x. Me liking x caused me to make a group about x, but nevertheless, me participating in this group also reinforces my liking of x.

You have so much arm muscle, your arms are going to move differently than some other women. There’s a flexibility women tend to have because we have less upper body musculature - and if you ever did something like this again- work on flexibility of upper body/shoulders to help you move less stiffly. You do walk like a superhero though- which is very badass.

You looked beautiful on the stage. If I was judging you in my professional opinion .. In Gown- Relaxing your index fingers and hands, also more of a sultry face as opposed to bubbly ...I wanted you to show how confidently beautiful. You can take the persona of a stunt double and add that in the walk. On stage QA & Interview YOU ROCKED THE ANSWERS AND IT WAS SO COMFORTABLE... I also do broadcaster hands so we both have to watch it when when we talk... SWIMSUIT I wanted a bit more modeling a hair flip or stronger snap turn...you have a fantastic body and maybe a ponytail for swim and some fun earrings could help the walk be even stronger Final Question, You KILLED THAT loved how you related the previous contestant in yours, your articulation is beyond impressive you should consider doing another Pageant and in your 1st pageant slayage.. I was 3rd runner up in my 1st Pageant and placed 2nd ru in my 1st professional Pageant so you did a great job. I as a man struggle with swimsuit competition due to my body. I win Interview and QA regularly and am brought up in ranks for it. Pageantry is a SPORT and the preparation is vital... Pageantry is sexiest because Male Beauty Pageantry isn't known, viewed, or understood...Were held to same standards you ladies do... Pageantry is an investment, a gamble, but a challenge.... I do fundly, gain donor's, drain my funds for it but it's my dream coming from the projects of Manhattan. I am not the typical male beauty pageant guy but with 16 crowns, 25 Nationals, published articles in 2 online magazines, and defying odds for African Americans it's made my 14 yrs in the world valued. I compete for myself, my esteem, and to prove you can do more when you're told you can't.. I will always advocate for Pageantry. I met the best ppl and seen half of our country thanks to Pageantry. to hold your own with Samantha Neyland and Savannah Wix who are stunning is an accomplishment. Plus you needed to speak with Miss World 1994- Aishwarya Rai, Miss Universe 1996- Sushmita Sen, Miss Universe 2000-Lara Dutta, & Miss America 2015- Nina Davuluri... I think the political question they gave you was actually very nice and probably well intended. During the interview and the first question on stage, you continuously brought up "girl power" and how in your videos you wanted to show girls what they can accomplish if they set their mind to it. So, how to motivate them to go out there and vote fitted right into the picture you painted all along.

It was a total softball question and her answer is why she didn't win. What she said made no sense. "Pay women equally and then they'll show up and vote" is inane. The answer should have included mentioning "registration," "outreach," and "education." Also, referencing other contestants answers is a mistake, as is starting every answer with "Oh my goodness!"

I believe she is getting to a stage of her career in which she is really digging deeper into more raw humanity and into the things that really matter in life. Having set the intention for the video totally brought a whole meaning. Challenging and talking about controversial topics totally made me gain so much respect for Michelle and her work. You went up against ladies who have probably been doing pageants since they could walk, or even before. I was really impressed that you were able to hold your own. I stumbled upon your video and it was a great watch! I have competed in pageants my whole life and I am 31 years old. There are many different pageant systems that allow women that have been married and have children. There is also systems that do a fitness or athletic wear instead of swimwear to demonstrate a healthy lifestyle. I personally love participating in pageants I love the girls I meet the platforms I stand for and the change I can make within my communities. Growing up doing pageants has made noticeable changes throughout my life, I have gained more confidence within myself and a I am not afraid to have a strong foot to stand on when I have an opinion. I thought that you did great in your very first pageant! It takes time, practice and happiness! I have been a judge many times and I have seen girls win that have fell (It happens more than you know) We as judges look for a woman who is strong, goal oriented and will provide a role model for the organization. Best of luck to you girl! You rocked it and your amazing!

Dear Michelle, I've stumbled over your "butler" and "etiquette" videos first; these two beauty pageant videos were next. You are doing great in each and every one of them and I am so happy I am going to see more of your challenges. You are a beautiful woman inside and out. I have seen you in your full warpaint and gear. Let me tell you: you are far more beautiful without heavy make-up. You are smart, energetic, adventurous and wonderfully articulate. That makes you a real queen, even if without a rhinestone crown. Greetings from Russia
