These cleaners are such wonderful people. The hoarders are so brave to ask for help. Hoarding is a mental illness and these people deserve help. I have anxiety which is also a mental illness. I saw a therapist and am doing well now. There should be no judgement of people with mental illness just compassion and help.
@Sinsteel
@Sinsteel Год назад
They don't ask for help, something critical breaks or the council intervenes, and they're forced into a corner and other people have to come in and clean up after them. I know they have an illness, but that's still the reality of the situation. I feel sorry for people who get paid low wages to clean up these people's filth.

I thought Stelios helped Nigel! Omg, he's back to square one. Jesus. He clearly needs ongoing psychological help and a weekly cleaning service. He obviously can't stay "normal" on his own. He STILL doesn't realize how bad he is. He needs constant hand-holding.

@LisaMaryification
@LisaMaryification 2 года назад
Exactly. And what I find confusing is the show 'credited' the Declutter Divas' yet they seemed to exasperate the problem by stating they need to be 'firmer' with him. Why should they? It's not their fault he didn't continue therapy. It was irresponsible of the show to skirt the issue that Nigel has not continued therapy. I get the same sense of 'tough love' from this show's doctor. She didnt say straight out 'Nigel, you need continued therapy'. It was very superficial. I suppose Stella's didn't want to be mentioned in this show and the show decided to put the responsibility on the cleaners. Which was a missed opportunity for the show to really tackle Nigel's issues. The point was completely missed. Also, did you notice he moved from the house he shared with his previous partner to an apartment? That means he probably spent all the proceeds from the house sale on yet another hoard. That is certainly not honouring his late partner, Sid.
@LisaMaryification
@LisaMaryification 2 года назад
@@zxyatiywariii8 He mentioned that it seems people don't understand no matter how much you try to explain. Which people? His relatives? Doctors? Is he busy explaining away his hoard and why he can't get better? It seems like the only person who doesn't understand is Nigel himself.

I love these British helpers! I'm American but some of the American de-cluttering services can just overwhelm these people -- the American helpers show up with a fleet of trucks labeled _"Got Junk?"_ and ten or twenty people who don't seem to understand that the stuff is a SYMPTOM of mental illness. So even if they clear out all the junk, they haven't treated the CAUSE of the problem, and then the person relapses. This is much rarer on British shows. Whereas there are many, many Americans who end up re-cluttering like Nigel here. 😞

@@WillowJordan1979 Ah, is that it? I'm American but my parents were immigrants and I've always preferred a small bed, not only because it takes less space, but it also takes less work to make my bed, and the bedding is easier to launder because it's not so huge and unwieldy, and a smaller bed feels more cozy somehow. Of course if I were married I'd want a larger bed, but not as a single woman. I guess it's a cultural thing.

@@zxyatiywariii8 Yeah, that makes sense. Both have pros and cons. I think somewhere around the 2000's, they started selling "Jenkki" beds (Jenkki meaning American, it's derived from Yankee). 14:53 _IMPORTANT!_ ⚠️ If you're in an area where asbestos is present, you need to cover your hair as well as wear a mask. I have long hair myself, and I've worked in areas with asbestos, and those tiny fibers can get into hair and then you can breathe them in. So I always kept mine covered and she should too. Even if she washed her as soon as she got home, the asbestos can be inhaled in that short amount of time. I do know it's hot and annoying to have to be completely covered when you're working, but it's extremely important in the case of asbestos (also anthrax, which sporifies and has an affinity for clinging to hair).

How many house does he have??🤔🤔 in previous episodes he collected antique plates and in this clothing materials 🤔🤔🤔🤔 what happened to the plates he hoarded??
@eeshaanchan1057
@eeshaanchan1057 3 года назад
I think it's the same house. And I was just thinking about his beautiful collection of antique ceramics too! I wonder if he let go of it because it was too painful of a reminder of his boyfriend or some natural reason came up for him to have to let it go. Because again in this episode like the last he does not have any pictures of his boyfriend up anywhere. Or they might simply be upstairs.

It looks like he moved to an apartment building. It's not the same house. He must have sold the other house. And that was his late partner's plate collection, not his.

Ok Nigel what's up with the cat? Fleas or thyroid or what? Either can be treated. Not ok for kitty to be greasy and itchy all the time..talk to vet. Even if you can't fix it completely you can manage it. If your cat was completely bald a couple of months ago and you are managing it, my apologies.

The American ones are sometimes much worse, there's one where the "helper" mocked an elderly man when he wanted to keep an old punching bag because he'd been a professional boxer when he was younger. She said, "You're going to use that? You can hardly even walk!" and he started to cry while trying not to cry. I felt so sorry for him! 😢 Even if the bag needed to be discarded, she could have been kinder about it. If she ends up being in a wheelchair when she's older, she wouldn't like being mocked for what she can't do. 😡 I would've encouraged him to give it away saying something like, "Just think, if you donate it, maybe some teenage boy -- who can't afford a new one -- can use it. You could be helping a young boxer train to have a great career like you did." Something positive. Negativity just exacerbates a hoarding problem.

People really don't understand how mental illness works. Loneliness is just a way to describe depression, & for her, living in a hoard without really noticing it, is a sign of serious depression. People should also understand that having a mental illness or struggling with your mental health is NORMAL, it doesn't mean you are broken. Most people can't go through their lives entirely alone.

I think its not always hording, sometimes they just dont clean and organized and that I dont understand. How can you pile newspapers and garbage and cat pups on your flor...use all your dishes, never wash them and stop useing your kitchen. That is not a hordering, for me its a lazyines, not to clean after yourselve dishes or toilet. At least that should be clean even if your home is packed from flor to siling. You should see my moms house 3x150m2, she is 81 now, never throw away things. Keeps her buisy to clean every day for few hours. we do only garden and flowers and wash windowes. I do horde but I also clean and for no cleaning theres no excouse, sorry.
@kimberleybarker3922
@kimberleybarker3922 3 года назад
You are missing the essence of the problem. It starts with collecting, which becomes a hoard, which ultimately causes the person to become overwhelmed and often anxious and depressed and THAT'S when people stop doing the every day tasks. It's not like someone wakes up and thinks 'i'm tired of cleaning, not doing that anymore.' More than often these were house proud people in the past...
