@@MegaLag You should see if you could take this on tour with you to the world's most remote locations and see if it is truly possible. Just national geographic the hello kitty out of it.
I bought a Jackery in summer and it literally was amazing I worked outside every single day only problem was finding places where I got 5g and it was fast
They can actually produce more! Although it was a sunny day, I had tested it on sunnier days and gotten 135watts in input (which is the most the Jackery 1000 can take). Otherwise the panels individually can get about 95 watts each in perfect conditions!
@@MegaLag are you in Australia? If so it wouldn’t surprise me if you had so much power. Because you can basically get a sunburn from thinking about going outside here in Australia
I did it while writing my thesis, in my case it was national park office. And I only needed jackery 240 + one solar saga 100W. It was surprisingly productive week for me. Though without starlink :)
This is one of the very few channels I get excited for when a new video is dropped. Your narrative sounding voice is perfect for the type of videos you do. Easy to understand and listen to. The amount of effort you put into your videos are great.
Just a little note, you probably know already but just in case... if you plug your laptop directly in the battery's usb-c plug it should be much more efficient (you avoid 2 conversions ), assuming the battery supports the current/voltage combination needed by the laptop (USB-C sucks...). I would be curious to know if that works(if the battery supports it), if you test it.
Awesome Video! Worth the wait :) I really liked the storytelling and idea. Also I'm really glad you included a Sponsorship. It was integrated perfectly and not at all annoying. Even more it showed me a possible alternative to the google products.
Wow, this project really impressed me. When I saw the video title, my first thought was "Has MegaLag's quick success transitioned into shillery so quickly?!" I was glad to see an honest review and a really cool use-case. Who wouldn't want to spend their workday in the park? The Jackery seems a lot more useful to me now--I had seen Linus's video on powering a boat using one, but I don't own a boat so that meant nothing to me. And your speeds with Starlink were double what I get with wired internet at home in the largest city in North America! Really good job, and thank you for showing both the uses and limitations of the current state of these products.
Hey MegaLag, just a little advice on German laws (the Medienstaatsvertrag). You have to communicate, when you got e.g. some hard- or software given for free by someone with a commercial interest. Something like “Unterstützt durch Produktplatzierung” for (I think) 5 seconds in the beginning and in the end (in one corner of the video is enough). Nevertheless a great video, I really love your storytelling!
Thanks for the compliment and the heads up! Do you by any chance know of a website where all of this is explained in English? Or perhaps an official website I can translate to English? Would help a lot! Thanks again!
@@MegaLag The free WiFi for the public is really nice of you, but unfortunately a grandma recently successfully got sued for having an open wifi that someone used for piracy. In Germany, if you’re unlucky, you’re on the hook for your guests.
Hi there, thanks for pointing this out! Unfortunately I had no idea that someone was trolling the zoom call. I've gone ahead and edited out the zoom-in scenes, however, I cannot blur the individuals face. For what ever reason, once a video has been edited with the YT editor, blurring faces is no longer allowed. So this is the best I can do for now. Again, thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Great and funny video! I know, there are lots of advantages from Starlink - it's faster, you got unlimited data to use, ... But Starlink costs 500€ for the hardware and that 100€ each month - the mobile-data upgrade-packages seem like nothing compared with that. 😂
I remember visiting Australia several years ago. When I arrived, I went to purchase a prepaid SIM card. What a shock! Excruciatingly expensive, painfully slow. Vodafone. Luckily, as my prepaid SIM was about to run out of data, I received a message from my everyday phone service provider. They were now extending their included roaming service to Australia (and New Zealand). Limited to about half my allowance in my native country. Which was still more than I could find offered by any local phone service provider. Of course, it didn't do anything to improve the connection speeds.
@Harry Groundwater optus, ten bucks off with mobile plan comes to around 65 a month. its not cheap but its the things we have to do for internet. live outer suburbs of melbourne
Awesome that Jackery sent you product for the video! I looked at their power stations a couple of years ago but opted against them for the weakness that they only provide low-wattage USB-C. If it supported up to the current spec (100W) you could have powered your laptop and ipad without the loss from the inverter. Unfortunately, all the makers of power banks seem to do an either-or choice: either it's got an inverter OR it has full-speed usb-c power delivery (I've got one that does up to 87 watts usb-c). That said, pretty brilliant setup, and I'm glad you pushed it to an almost silly extreme!
Thank you for featuring me in the video! It was a great video. Starlink is working great for our internet. We get around 100Mbps download and 10Mbps upload.
Every video touches some new interesting aspect of tech. Clearly explained with all pros and cons. I am really looking forward to the in depth video of this insane power bank.
Your Prepay Plans are very expensive! In The UK, Vodafone offers an unlimited data (up to 100gb) unlimited texts to any network and 100mins of calls all for £20 every 28 days. Mad
As a techy from the 90s this is really cool. That being said this is a really 90s solution. There's Laptops that can handle light work loads on battery for over 10hours easily they often also have their own LTE antenna. So all you basically need is a laptop. Also man get a better data plan. 3gig for 10€ is really bad. I got 10gig for the same price and with the option to cancel any time. What I could imagine this being useful for is a DJ set or as you did an extensive outdoor shoot
Not good for local gaming but good for gaming with those who are far, in new zealand we get a 27 best ping to australia, however anywhere else would be over 80 usually 120+ ping. this device would be great to allow gaming from rural and remote areas
so you know how some people live in a converted van? (I don't live in one) The starlink could be really useful for them because sometimes they drive to the middle of nowhere.
That looked like a really fun project 👍 Love the idea of a Jackery unit - but they need to switch to the newer and more efficient LiPO4 chemistry before I will buy... hopefully in 2022?🤞
You should try the König Ludwig Dunkles Beer. In my opinion it is waay better than the Köstritzer :) And from Bavaria wich is more than enough reason to try it ;)
I love finding “small” channels at their “start,” as of this video I’ve seen all of your content and I’m loving it! I turned on the bell and look forward to more uploads in the future!
This would be perfect for going out camping somewhere, use the solar panels during the day to power your gear and keep the battery at 100%, which then can last you through the night and then back in the morning you repeat the process.
Wow. What a grouse video! :-) Well done, my friend! Really made me smile! Plus the Jackery gear looks awesome! Here in the Northern Territory - we go camping often enough, but haven't invested in a power solution yet. Will definitely have a look. Your channel is going gang-busters mate! Keep up the great work!
Cheer Benjamin, really appreciate the kind words mate! Yeah the Jackery is great, I’m sure it would come in very hand when camping. But Unless you’re cooking with it, the 1000 would likely be a bit overkill for camping. But hey, if you go often enough, I suppose the extra juice wouldn’t hurt!
3:48 Excuse me, 3GBs for 10 euros?! Step up to Poland someday, with phone plan with 30GB for equivalent of 7,5€ monthly as a standard :D (Even some carriers offers some extra GBs free of charge, I’ve gained 1,2TB of data to spend to the end of the year☠️)
this is so awesome, i am at college getting my bachelors degree in programming and definetily see myself working from some cabin in the woods with starlink in the future.
This seems too good to be true! But it is true! Just shows how much tech can involved. Anyway, great video Jono! Glad I featured in it for about 10 seconds.
For all that wind noise I would recommend the BlueAnt T1 Bluetooth earplugs. FANTASTIC wind noise suppression. BUT the weakest point I see in your setup is the relatively poor Macbook screen IN SUNLIGHT. It's much better than most laptops, BUT for actually being able to READ the laptop screen SUPER CRISP AND CLEAR, I recommend a military grade General Dynamics GD8200 (used, cheap on eBAY) with DynaVue 2 technology. You'll be AMAZED at how legible the screen of that laptop is. Even better than printed paper in the sun!
Ugh! Another shill for Jackery. People, don't buy Jackery. It's battery chemistry is crap that wears out too fast. Look for a Bluetti or EcoFlow product if you want something that is a good bang for the buck/pound/euro. Also, don't charge a laptop using the AC inverter. That's lame. Laptops use DC. So, he converted DC to AC, then the power brick converted it back to DC again. You lose about half your juice with all these conversions. Get a power station that has a Power Delivery (PD) port and charge the laptop directly.
Ok...this setup only needs a sun-shade for the desk (the pannels of course need the sun to make power...well, adding a third panel might give you enough juice to not deplete the power-bank...hm...), otherwise? Great setup! Starlink isn't bad, but yeah it would be even better without being location-locked (it would be great for boats, campers etc.)
This is something you could do on a budget aswell. The solar panels or similar ones can be had for £145 for 120w output for the panels I looked at. An adapter either DIY or from a third party would solve any connectivity issue to the powerbank of choice. The jackery power bank I found is £250 for one that looks similar. it has a solar compatible input and plug socket with 200w output so that's what matters most, right? And while £400 total just for power isn't exactly cheap, it's far cheaper then having to rent out a room per night just for using a laptop. And this'll stop people saying "you're using too much electricity" as you won't be needing their electricity at least for light laptop usage or low end gaming.
Really cool idea, though it's not really feasible for most people. The gear from jackery is really cool but that alone is 1800 bucks. I think in most cities LTE Advanced or 5G would give enough bandwidth. And personally, well I hope SpaceX goes bankrupt before their reckless use of satellites trigger the Kessler Syndrome. The Starlink satellites already where involved in a couple close calls and that with just a small percentage of the finale fleet up there.
Dude, you deserve the shot to RU-vid success. This video proves you weren't a one-hit-wonder with the Airtags stunt. You are a great story teller, and have put out great content so far. Best of luck.
Watt * hour isn't the unit of power! Watt is the unit of power. Wh is the unit of energy, so it is equivalent to J (Joules), and would you call Joules power?! No, you wouldn't! The same way you don't call km/h distance or minutes mass!
Holy sh*t, mobile plan prices in Germany are atrocious !! I live in France, and for 10$ a month, i get: unlimited calls and SMS in France and in EU, and unlimited 5G/4G in France (true unlimited, i used 1.6To a few months back, didn't got blocked or anything, like some others carriers do), 25Go in EU (not only EU, there's like 70 countries where you have 25Go per month in roaming). That's a promotion price, but the standard mobile plan is: 20€ a month for unlimited calls and SMS in France and in EU, and 150Go of 5G/4G in France, 25Go abroad. I'm pretty sure that you could get this French mobile plan and use it in Germany, and it will still be a better phone plan than a german carrier...
3gb of data! Man that’s a steal… in my country there is a very strong competition between mobile companies and you got 30gb for U$10.- and 75gb for U$15.
