I love crochet but suffer from multiple disabilities and I think it only makes sense if you do it in broken up times. I literally physically could not deal with the pain of staying up all night crocheting. The longest I can last is 3hrs and then I have to do pain management. It doesn't feel like you cheated at all to me!
As someone who gets severe migraines anytime I stay up past 9 (pulling all-nighters for college was horrible, more recently getting knocked on my butt after a wedding, and being physically unable to stay awake for late movies) I really appreciate your take on this challenge!! Health is always most important, and the result turned out lovely! ❤
I'm sorry to hear that you get severe migraines! I get bad sinus headaches, and sometimes I cannot even keep my head up. It's awful. You're so right, though- health is always most important!
As a fellow person with disabilities, I can understand the desire to complete a 24-hour challenge with a body that declines to acquiesce to my request. And now I go back to the crocodile stitch mermaid blanket WIP that I've been working on for an unknown amount of time....
You bending the rules for your health so you dont miss out is exactly the thing i need to start doing too but struggle with. Thankyou for putting that part in there as a reminder
I absolutely _love_ how the top and bottom match color wise, but are a different pattern!!! It looks soooo amazing!!! ❤ Im still pretty new to crochet, my first big project was making a twin sized baby blanket for a family member's little one which took me forever... I have carpal tunnel from being a cake decorator and constantly using my hands in strenuous ways. I totally understand needing to stop, constantly, and needing to rest one's hands a lot.😢
Okay. I LOVE how she did the challenge. I stopped watching these because I don’t like watching people push their body for a video. It would take me days to recover😅 But I have seen a few other crocheters approach the challenge this way and I like it a lot more!!
I just learned how to knit last month, and found it’s been making my wrist tendons hurt. So I started propping up my wrist on one of those egg-shaped squishmallow plush toys and the support has helped a lot!
Well done! I have Fibromyalgia and know all to well about pushing the limits. Remember your health is way more important than a video. Don't put yourself at risk to entertain people. Hope this project has not been to rough on you and that you are keeping well. It is beautiful.
As much as I love amigurumi, I think you have a real talent for clothes. I'd love to see you really get into designing them more and more. Oh, and spoonies unite! 🥄🥄🥄
Spoonies unite!! I'm honestly have such a blast making clothes atm that I've already got a few more clothing WIP's. I'm not going to forget about amigurumi but I'll probably split my time more evenly between different types of projects going forward.
I see the extra skein working well as a bag! Making it into a t-shirt to wear with the cardigan would end up hiding the rainbow yarn, and it feels like the yarn was made to be shown off 💕
Love this result and how you got it! Totally understand the frustration of working around yarn chicken to realize afterwards you could have won... Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely LOVE that neon colored yarn mixed with the black and WITH the hood too!!! It’s the most modern granny cardigan I’ve seen yet. Truly a show-stopping piece. What brand/color is that yarn???
Unfortunately, it's been discontinued 😞. It was from a brand called Four Seasons Marvel which is available at Spotlight here in Aus but this particular colour is no longer produced.
I love that you ended up something "Original" that only you will ever have. I love the colors. I've seen other hexi cardigans but love that your is so different. I now have to pick up some light weight yarn and give it a try in some fun colors. Thanks for this video.
I Always love a good game of yarn chicken. I have chronic migraines so I understand finding workarounds. Your project was amazing. Personally I feel that you won. What is 3.5 hours. You're a winner in my book.
I've never seen a 24 hour crochet challenge. I've seen "24 hour ART challenge" where someone paints, or draws, or sculpts or any combination of those. This is the first crochet challenge I have seen 😊 Actually, there was a time I was sick with the flu and I was stuck in the hospital for 8 days😢 Obviously, I was so sick I couldn't vmcrochet the first few days, but around day 4 or 5 I was more awake than asleep and I did manage to crochet pretty much 24 hours, except for having to stop for the hospital to check my vitals. This is a challenge I could get into!
I would love to see you use the extra multi-coloured yarn skein to make some matching legwarmers!! I think they would look amazing worn with the sweater or even by themselves!
I totally relate!! I had to go a different direction with a blanket as I *thought* I was almost out of a certain colour. Turns out I had two more 1lb skeins that were packed into a non-yarn box... yup, two freakin' POUNDS of the stuff. 🤦♀️ I love the cardiehood you made, it really pops! 🖤🧡🖤💚🖤💙🖤💜🖤
Thank goodness! I just crocheted for a couple of hours and was starting to get some hand twinges. I can't imagine how hard it would be on you (or anyone) to crochet for 24 hours straight - ouch!
I love the combination of black and rainbow so much that I will make one for myself exactly like that, (upper jacket part 😊) also the fit! Wow! Thanks so much for the inspo and the wonderful video!
"No spoilers just yet" *me looking at title* "Well, isn't that a spoiler?" I just wanted to say, I have so much fun watching your videos. I crochet since the beginning of the year and when I'm not motivated to continue my project I always watch your videos. I hope you have a nice day ^^
I love your idea of breaking down the time into small chunks. I too suffer from chronic pain and need to crochet in small batches. And I adore your kitties. There is something so comforting about crocheting with a kitty.
I love the Jacket🥰 don’t be so hard on yourself I think the bottom of the jacket looks lovely with the top of it💕. I also like how you approached this challenge I’ve always thought of how unhealthy the 24 hour crochet challenge is not just physically but mentally as well. I think a matching top would look nice🥰.
This looks super cool! I love the drapeyness at the bottom! Could you perhaps show how you made that part? Also passionknit kelsie has a pretty cool no sew hexagon cardigan tutorial! Oh also also, spoonies unite! 🥄
Excellent demonstration of adaptation in the face of bodily rebellion. Mine does the same. My supplies also hide when required. Sympathetic noises…… The amount of projectiles I throw! Well done as always. I look forward to seeing what ever you get up to next.
I 💜💜 it, as is! Funky stripes and all! And I also ❤ that you modified the challenge to what your body will allow, instead of forcing yourself to do something you know would set your health and wellbeing back. For the extra skein - maybe matching hat/ scarf/ gloves for a full on ensemble when you go outside? Could possibly introduce some of the solid color stripes to help solidify the intentionality and continuity of said stripes?
Personally, not my colour's but wow, the shape and fit is blooming brilliant. Love that you steadied your time, and show that even with a disability, we can all do this. My problem is time and time again. I don't stop, and then overdo it, and suffer for days on end. Great video yet again,❤🎉❤
That turned out to be such a cute "jumper" design and I think the colors worked. You can have the extra time because you designed as you went. Who else can do that? Well, not me that's for sure. I feel your frustration with finding the yarn at the end. I was playing yard chicken and was losing, so ran into town (40miles) and lucky enough found my yarn. Got home looked into my stash for something else and found another full skein of what I ran to town for. I know it wasn't there this morning! Dang, yarn fairies. Keep on crocheting!
I was frustrated enough just finding that skein later! Adding a 40 mile trip on top of that.....I can't imagine :S. I think we need to send those bloody yarn fairies a strongly worded letter lol.
Good on you listening to your body! You nailed this challenge if I may say so 😀 and even though I don’t have a disability I could never ever crochet for 24 hours straight either 😅
What a fun video, watching you work and cheering you on! I seriously think the jacket's pretty bloody cool! Well done! You're damn right, you've got to put your health first. It's fantastic that you found that workaround, something I sure as hell would have had to find as well. I'm currently unable to crochet at all due to hand pain, which is a bugger because crochet is how I cope with pain everywhere else! Aarrgghhhhh! (Life's never simple, is it?)
I love how it turned out 🥰 with your extra yarn you could add to the length of the hood 🤔 I also suffer with chronic pain so breaking projects into short sessions helps. I'm making my 1st hexi cardigan & I'm slowly making progress on my tetris themed granny square cardigan, I was hoping to have it finished by autumn but it's looking more like I will have it finished by my birthday at the end of January 🤞
17:13 Bless your niece’s heart ❤ To be that young again and be excited to feed the fishies 😂 BTW I just love the “jacket”❤!! Although I don’t have physical/health limitations, I do have mental issues; depression, anxiety and ADHD. So I would probably do a broken up 24 hours also. Thanks so much for your videos!!
I thought it would be to much with color but I like it verry much it's cute. When you have chronisch illness and or pains we have to adjust to what we can do but that makes the outcome also unpredictable and unique.
As mentionned, LOVE this video you' re a " natural!👌 Personnally, the top of your cardi is more my style, and I'm amazed of how you can do it, fit so perfectly to you, no patterns, no frogging, etc... Wow!!!💕 With the " hiddrn skei " you could add a couple of rows to the bottom part to make it feel like the rainbow colors are more integrated. Or you could crochet yourself a small purse/ handbag, or a beanie, or fingerless gloves! Please show it to us when you' re done 😄🌾
I love it. Came out very very good and I thought the bottom is great adds a bit of flare and colors looks great with rainbow variegated yarn. I just really like the look and shape that came out.
I am regretting NOT sewing in my tail ends as I went along. My granddaughter worked out that it will take me 20 hours to sew all the ends in for the granny squares I made for a double bed blanket. Then I need to crochet them together. I really like the garment you made .
I really love the coloured stripes along the bottom. Definitely would be annoying finding the spare yarn later but maybe it was meant to be 😄 the stripes add a nice feature to it. Turned out great! ❤
I have seriously considered that but it's A LOT of frogging (not just the bottom, I went straight into crocheting the ribbing from there so that'd have to go to) and I don't dislike the bottom section so much that I'm willing to do all that lol.
I love it. Love it so much, I am wanting to make something similar for myself. I couldn't do 24 hours straight either. Between family, main job, and physical abilities, 24 hours straight is not possible. I think you did amazing and made the 24 hour challenge video work. Love it.
Ugh, hate it when that happens. When you can't find something after looking everywhere. It suddenly pops up in some random place when you're not even thinking about it. So annoying. I vote for fingerless gloves or leg warmers.
You can always frog the bottom. You admitted defeat with the 24 hour time, but the discontinued yarn appeared. ❤ If the two jackets just sewn together feeling persists you can just fix it. 😊 You can also make a crochet trim or lace with the rainbow and add it as an applique, or do chain stitch embroidery, couch stitch it around... So many options actually..... Congratulations though! I keep starting and frogging a cardigan. It would be my first big piece of clothing, but it's scary
I decided to make 3 matching cardigans for my kids…I started probably in May. Had a lot of migraines this summer but finally the end is in sight but I think I’m about a skein of black-lights yarn short. I might not actually be but I’m waiting on more before the final half cardigan. I feel like they each took me far more than 24 hours 😂
love that yarn! it's got so many pretty colours :)) the final piece is so cute! i 've been nspired to pick my hexi back up after it was thrown in the sin bin lol
😊 i am sitting in bed with my crochet top, fourth attempt ( long story 😮) anyhoo have sore shoulder and i know why.. pretty much constant HDC over three days😢.. aaaaaaarrrrgggggh this is not the first time either...lord some of us never learn😅
I 100% do not think you cheated in any way. The challenge is to crochet in 24hrs which is what you did. Who has 24hrs to crochet all at once 😂. Love the jacket ❤
Thanks, the top half is just a granny hexagon cardi and there's a lot of easy to follow tutorials for those on youtube. The bottom section I made up as I went but am considering making a 'how to' video on it in the future.
Love your videos! Didn't realise you had chronic illness (i do too) and that just makes me love your work even more! I recently made a bunch of your mushrooms, so tysm for the amazing tutorials ❤ i LOVE this jacket, i would def wear the top part as a cropped style maybe deconstruct and use the rest of the yarn ball for extra length. Also i loved someone's matching shorts suggestion above! They would look sick together with black tights and combat boots! Either way its total fire, i love it, hope you do a tute on it sometime! And well done 🎉
Love the jacket. I would have my the bottom section and added a ribbed border., With the extra yarn (isn't it always the way!) I'd add a bit of length maybe or a matching top like you said. Love the rainbow and black. It's an amazing mix. Was going to ask about the Yarn then you said it was discontinued! Why do they do that with the best yarns? 😖 Being disabled as well, I don't think you cheated. You crocheted for 24 hours and that is the challenge. Well done. xxJane 🐑🌈
Your jacket is absolutely stunning! I love the colors and the fit is perfect for your body! As for the time, I think you nailed it. You kept adding to the jacket. So, technically it was done within 24hrs just the added bonus pieces were not quite done. I loved how you broken up the 24hrs. The 24hr challenges is not fun to watch. I feel that pushing your body to do things like that makes the projects seem not as enjoyable. I would love to see you do this challenge again, I’d definitely enjoyed watching your not 24hr challenge.
