I spent 10 days on an adventure which I thought going in would be unusual to the Kimberley in Australia on Seabourn Pursuit expedition cruise ship. It turned out to have many more twists and turns and falls as you will discover. So, join me as I take you to one of the most remote places in the world on a truly incredible experience and trip and share the highs and the lows.

Glad you enjoyed it. The vlog style videos do not do well for me and much fewer people watch them versus my usual videos, but those that do, like you, seem to enjoy this approach and so I will likely do more of these. I think they work best in more unusual places and itineraries like this (and one I did for Greenland and Canadian Arctic). Though they get about a third of views at most than there. But that could also be as not what most people want or expect from me. But maybe if I do more of them they may build more of a following for these too.

There are quite a few companies operating Kimberley cruises now. Some are Australian and some are foreign owned. For legal reasons the foreign ones have to go outside of Australian territorial waters and then back in whereas Australian ones can hug the coast. That's why some go out to Ashmore reef while others don't.

I really loved this travel vlog: more about the areas you visited than onboard ammenities. My husband and I are coming up to a 25th Anniversary next year, and Australia/new Zealand/South Pacific is solidly on our bucket list. This gives us something to add to the itinerary.

It seems that the smaller tours are far more unique than the large ships because they can go where the larger ships don't go.

We've toured the Kimberly on a cruise. There are 3star plus up to 5 star cruises with comforts and prices to match. Our cruise was a very small one with SUPERB guides and itinerary. We've also heard a 5 star passenger saying the best thing of their cruise was the food! You go for the adventure. (We've also driven through the Kimberley, around it and flown over it. We are not Aussies.)

We were fortunate to do a 12 day Kimberley cruise two years ago. Our cruise boat was very small- only 22 of us and 6 crew. Being such a small boat we were able to go up many of the rivers. For us the Horizontal Falls was one of the highlights of the cruise.

Gary, great job as always. A warning for those who do a Kimberley cruise on Silversea, that line doesn't always let you snorkel at Ashmore Reef, without giving a particular reason--a major disappointment for us on an otherwise very enjoyable trip.

That looks like an amazing cruise, with amazing excursions and sights. I can only imagine that the cost in the end will be equally amazing. I went for 10 days to the Galapagos and while expensive, it was worth every penny. The animals and sights that are unique to the location are worth it. Sadly, its popularity could be its undoing. So the only want to keep down the number of visitors is to increase the price and price out the would be visitors. We went 15 years ago and it was still reasonable. It’s now a lot, lot more. But if you have the available cash, well worth it. Sadly, Ecuador itself isn’t really safe at the moment, but I’m sure the islands are OK. This trip looks equally interesting. Just need a zodiac full of cash to pay for it.

We're thinking of going to Australia for the 2028 eclipse. In my research, it looked like the Kimberley area (specifically, Doon Doon Station) would be the ideal site. The Horizontal Falls are very similar to the Reversing Falls in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The gap is bigger in SJ, the push/pull is between the 30 foot tide range and the Saint John River. Saint John is a cruise port destination for East Coast Fall Colour Cruises. New England to Quebec City or Montreal usually.

During the wet season(November to April), the falls in the Top End of Australia are magnificent, but the heat and the humidity are so oppressive! Up to 98%. There is no way that you could travel on land to these destinations during that period, and even when flying in, your energy is sapped, especially for those unused to the conditions. The views and the skies are spectacular though.

The Kimberley coast is hundreds of kilometres west of Darwin. Can’t be done by day trips. The only way to see the area from the sea is by a cruise. You can also see different parts of the Kimberley via 4x4 vehicle along The Gibb River Road. It’s very remote. Check out Google Maps. The cruise ships usually go between Darwin (Northern Territory) and Broome (Western Australia) you’ll need to fly into one and out of the other. It’s not cheap, but sensational if you like an active cruise.
