Hey, Jacki: You've got that little boat all sharp and ready to fish. You and Louis did a great job. And by yourselves which always helps impress us. Keep smiling and posting, I your #1 Fan will be here.
its great for me to see a woman is taking interest in installing and doing the mechanical work. It helps when your out on the water and it fails you have an idea on how it works. kudos to you jacki !!!!!
You are going to love that trolling motor. I have a Minn Kota Riptide with the I-Pilot and spot lock and the quik release on a 20 foot bay boat and I never use my anchor. It is great to just ease up to a spot cut the engine use the trolling motor to get in position without spooking the fish and hitting the spot lock. If you need to move a little you just release the spot lock and use the trolling motor. No having to pull the anchor, move the boat with the engine and reset the anchor. All of which can disturb the fish.
On my 2000 1720 I went through the Nav light cut outs. Total PIA but was clean. Sanded down a 1/2" poly plate to a wedge to keep the shaft at a 90 to the water. Beautiful back yard boat launch.
For the install on my carolina skiff, I couldn't use all four of the predrilled holes in the puck due to clearance issues like you. So I used 3 of the predrilled ones like you did. When I first used it, I noticed the trolling motor rocked a bit on the mount, so I drilled a extra hole in the puck and added another bolt. It's rock solid now!
I really appreciate the fact that my fellow chick is showing me the install of the Minn Kota trolling motor I need to do with my husband on our Key West!!! I will have to come back and rewatch, but I had to say I laughed when your friend was like "I got it" and he was shooting your nice back-end crawling on the boat! If I looked as good as you, I would be happy to display it! Seriously, I am nervous about doing this install. We are off to shop for that ginormous cutting attachment...YIKES!!! I will comment after we get this job done! Thanks so much!
For the anchor. Put a cleat on the top right hand side of the anchor hatch. Get longer stainless screws and put a 4" x 8" x 5/8" piece of wood on the inside and mount cleat through the boat top and wood. This will distribute the stress on the fiberglass and give you a secure point to tie off the anchor. Prevent the new motor from getting hit by the rope and make sure it is strong enough to tie off. Hope this might help or give you an idea of what you can do. Looks good!
Jackie, you need a tie down to keep the trolling motor in the up position when you are running in rough water. There are straps you can buy to secure the unit to the chrome rail on the left. If you can find nothing you like you can get a heavy duty velcro strap. I know there is a lock at the base to keep it in the up position but if you are in really rough water or fail to lock that in properly it can bounce up and go into the deployed position. There has been many a boat that has had that happen and at speed it will rip the entire unit off the bow and you will lose it to the sea. You only need to secure it that way in heavy seas.
I just bought a Riptide Terrova for my Key West 1720. I was wondering how I was going to gain access to putting the washer and bolt on. Watching you cut that hole has me feeling not so good since my boat is a 2023. Lol. Thank you for making this video. It's going to help me out a lot on the installation
Hey Jacki Nice job on the Minnkota trolling motor don’t worry about the holes in your boat it’s normal OK, it’s just a part of installing a trolling motor, did you guys brace the bottom of the fiberglass they steel plate or fiberglass plate? Let me know Jersey Jim!! Three Screws should be fine take it for me and Louis! You guys are the best especially through this divorce!! Thank you so much for the videos the divorce is almost over! Ha ha can’t wait! Jersey Jim
I sold my boat but I kept my Minn Kota trolling motor because when I retire and move to the east coast of TX I'm going to mount it on my next boat!! I loved using it around pylons and bridges when I live line for rockfish aka striped bass.
Oh Jacki! Being the weather in north central Pennsylvania is cold, a snowy today, I was so glad a video of yours came in to my phone! Thank you and Louis (how is his name spelled?) for the tutorial on installing the trolling motor! End shot of you, warmed things up! ❤️
Well done on install. Looks great. Happy to see Soldering the battery Connections. A must. If I could add one thing...... The sliding black depth collar on the shaft? I always slide this down towards the housing for extra support and Security ...... I have seen a few Minnkotas on boats when up on plane hit a big wave and accidentally deploys into the water. Thus a completely damaged Minnkota and nasty boat repair. I got in the habit to slide the collar down on all my boats during trailering or up on plane. Don’t have to going spot to spot but for sure the long runs Just sayin Fish On
Well as always thanks for another great video y'all our favorite Florida girl Hope to see you back in Florida with your sister Like i always say Be safe and healthy and enjoy life to the fullest God bless and be happy and smiling
Excellent job, I put mine on my new boat last summer ( first one) almost exactly this way. Now wishing I got the Rip Tide. Keep up the great Videos jacki
"a boat is a hole in the water that you pour money in",, and my other favorite quote , "the two happiest days of your life is the day you buy your boat and the day you sell it"... as a former boat owner i couldn't agree more !!!
It's scary drilling into any part of a boat especially with that huge bit but I trust Lewis so you're in good hands! You two work well together. The one thing you mentioned that you wanted was a sound system the pairs with your phone. This is a must have luxury! Goodluck and Thxs for the video Respectfully, 14 😊
Looks good! You'll want to add a circuit breaker in the positive cable near the battery so you don't burn it up accidently. And an on board charger to keep your battery topped off will be greatly appreciated,
Sometimes you got to put that hole in the boat to get things done. And if you have a bay boat it is not complete without a trolling motor. You will be putting Power Poles on it next.
Girl, you're tough. I think you could do the next one yourself. This guy did a great job showing you.. only suggestion I have. Get a decent anchor chain and line. Then take the time to stow it properly. If you ever get in a jam. Need your anchor. You don't want to have to be fooling around with the line.
Good Idea Jacki , a (booming)sound system with disco lights so you can have a mini party as you cruise around the coast while playing some Whitesnake while you sing "Here I go again on my own" yeahhhh!!!! that's what I'm talking about. If you did a video of that it would make my year. btw, I miss being on a boat. Why did I ever leave Florida lol.
Quick tip. If you put this on a trailer for travel move the adjustment for length in the water down to the very bottom just in case you hit a bump. This will keep it from accidentally deploying!
Shea hey Jacki Shea! New trolling motor install, woo hoo! Aren't ya glad you didn't have to do it all by yourself. Louis is da man with the helping hand. Hey doggo!
Jackie, Good job, but you should install an inline breaker so you don't burn up your motor. I didn't see where you installed one, but it is hard to watch everything when you are in the movie. 😉
you'll be able to use the spot lock feature as an anchor pretty much every time. they stand up to a surprising amount of current. keep the manual anchor just as a safety unit in case of emergency. have fun !!
I have the motor guide and it held up to 4 ft swells and current RIPPING out of Ponce Inlet (until it ripped itself out of my mounts and almost flew in the water). It spun the boat quickly 180 degrees and put us in the direction of the current. Can't wait to get it installed again... maybe this time with a metal plate underneath. I have the 70 lb 60 inch and it had no trouble at all.
I dunno wut it is, but watching a lady figure out how tools work is always funny and cute, and Jackie you're just too damn cute with those dimples. ☺ Lol. Love from Cali, Jackie! ❤
Great video Jacki!! When you do the sound system go with a Clarion head and JL Amp and speakers. I just did it in my boat and sounds freakin amazing!!!!
Gosh I thought you messed up your boat installation for your trolling motor eventually you have to modify especially your wiring. Great video 👍🤙 congrats on your new motor 🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
When I mounted my Tm like that I made a stainless backing plate to go under the deck for a stronger hold. I used just eh bolts and washers at first but hit a stump and it pulled\broke some of the decking.
got to cut hole in mine to mount the puck on front just like you did curious ,,what size hole cutter did you guys use to cut through that wall of fiberglass, just bought mine (2023)and after you cut the hole ,,Is it open on the other side???? Thanks, for your feed back..
Jackie I just wacthed your video. Good job on putting trolling motor. I don’t know what you are going to do to keep deepcycle battery charged. I have in past installed blue sea crossover relay so when the boat motor is running it wii charge the battery as you go. Ì enjoy your shows and instgram page keep it up. If i was only 20 years younger. Good luck
Awesome addition to your boat. Has Luis used that “one size fits all” socket much? I’ve been wondering if they were as good as they advertised. What do you guys think about it ? Really enjoy all your videos Jacki! Hope you are having a wonderful day!🦈🦌❤️
