I went into a store that was advertising woven sweaters. As one who is interested in and does a lot of needle arts, I asked where they were. I was shown knitted sweaters! I asked again where the woven ones were... I was told that these were all they had. I gently and kindly informed that the sweaters were knitted. I have several of my grandmother's crafting magazines circa 1919 and they use crochet needle for what we now call crochet hooks. I agree that for beginners to crochet that it can be confusing. I also agree that terminologies are, more often than not, lost in translation. While I do not do Tunisian crochet, I find this an interesting application. I have watched RU-vid videos where there is music over top of some foreign language....subtitles in English are provided. This video supplies both music and subtitles. My guess is that this is not stolen.
@j.s.1816 I agree with you. Again, words over the years are/have been interchanged/translated. In the vintage patterns mentioned above, printed in the USA, the word needle was applied to both. Now, 100 years later, we're more enlightened...at least as far as the terminology is concerned. So, on that note, a bit of forgiveness and understanding is in order. Don't you agree?
This is so pretty and made into a keychain dangly that can be applied to so many things. If youre artistic but i think its pretty like to use in purses, coin bags, book marks etc whatever you need
Different countries verbage for crochet and knitting, crochet hooks, and other differences. Just see if other than US. Respect of other countries that doesn't have the same needlework verbage is kindness for a beloved craft..
I'm pretty sure with the language barrier we can forgive the fact that this is crochet and not knitting.. but isn't crochet a form of knitting? Let's try and be supportive instead of tearing each other down and correcting someone who maybe doesn't speak English as their native language.
Crochet is NOT a form of knitting! There are no crochet machines because there are so many different kinds of stitches. And it is done with a hook and not needles. It is a form of needle work, but not knitting. Also telling someone that they need to say what they are doing is constructive criticism. Not tearing someone down.
@@byrdbraininwithrobyn why report me ? It is not knitting. It is crocheting. Just stating a fact here. Knitting is done with 2 needles not a crochet " hook". Learn the difference please
I was just going to leave a comment about it being crochet. There is a difference and many people only do one or the other. I wouldn't consider the crafts to be interchangeable. You are totally correct. 😊
I have been knitting and crocheting for 45 years. What in the workd was the shape at the end supposed to be? It looked like 3 different things. These are easy to make single crochet stitches and thrn chains. Find easier ones online to start if you need help
It is a key ring decoration. Unfortunately many Turkish handicraft videos do only reveal at the what the item is. I find it pretty. Just for everyday use cream white might not be practical. I assume she picked the light color for the tutorial as it shows the crochet stitches better
If someone has already said this forgive me for re-stating it, I haven't read all of the comments, but hadn't seen anything about this yet. I wanted to point out that this is actually Tunisian crochet, also referred to as an Afghan stitch if I am not mistaken. I fell in love with it when I found that I could make crochet projects that look like they are knitted, because knitting, much to my chagrin is a skill that I have never been able to master. I appreciate that people like to make helpful suggestions and provide information, and I thank those who are kind and respectful when you do so. There are both kind ways and hurtful ways to express ourselves. It seems an easy enough choice to go with kind. I have couple of suggestions. One is, if you don't care for the music then you can mute the video and listen to something you like, another is that if you don't have spoken instructions, the nice thing about the video is that you can stop, start, move forward or back, and if you touch the timeline (I'm pretty sure that I'm using the wrong term, I hope that you understand what I mean) and drag up you can move the video forward or back frame by frame. I have found that to be an invaluable tool to closely study how the stitch is created. Thank you for sharing this. Just one more fun technique to add to my massive list of fun techniques that I quite likely will never find the time to try. But Hope springs eternal.
Its finger, hooking, yarn porn! You get to watch all together... what is made is obviously not a important as being able to watch the process. To music.
