The kid playing Oliver is perfect. Oliver isn't supposed to be emotional. He isn't supposed to be super expressive. That's Dodger's character. Gwion captures the Oliver character perfectly. I agree, that the Dodger here is superb and Jodie is great as Nancy as well.
MrOrigi. Sure to sing Where is love you don't need to be emotional . I wonder if you have read the novel. Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens . Charles Dickens's Oliver is very emotional. I have nothing against Gwion but I don't think he was made to play Oliver. Anyway that was 11 years ago.
@@aquarius4953 Seems like the more widely acceptable approach to the role of Oliver is "less is more", which is exactly what Gwion did here, letting his eyes & vocal phrasing do the heavy lifting
@punkeDeMo The kid playing Dodger had a rather big role in Les Mis last year in it's anniversary showing-he is a star! He was amazing in Les Miserables, I recognised him immeadiately. He is fabulous, I have to agree!
dude this musical is my childhood and i’ve been wanting to see it live for so long, but it got cancelled because of the pandemic 😭 watching this hits different now
if you think there's someone better, tell me and tell me where to find him but I've never heard anyone sing where is love better than the way gwion sings it here.. it's so powerful
Gregory Bradley one of the Olivers in 1994 was by far much better than Gwion. On youTube Where is love the single Gregory Bradley or Oliver 1994 . The girl ( I don't know her name) who sings instead of Marks Lester in the 1968 movie is also better than Gwion. Even Laurence was better than him. I would have like to see Chester in this role.
@riftintimeandspace i wanted to see Robert Madge but i found out that he left know..i don't live in england so i can't go watch any musicals!!! Its wonderful to hear that he was amazing!
@punkeDeMo As another poster has already said, Gwion has improved very, very much since this November 2008 TV show. Search for his final rendition of Where Is Love at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, which took place on January 8, 2011. There´s plenty of emotion in it - he shows Oliver´s sadness (as nobody seems to like Oliver), but also Oliver´s determination to find someone who will love him (or at least respect his dignity).
The problem with Marks Lester was unable to sing. In Oliver 1968 it is a girl who was chosen to sing instead of him. In my opinion Gregory Bradley Oliver 1994 was by far better than Marks Lester at least he could sing in a theatre.
I have to admit, Jodie is a lot better than I anticipated. I liked her on I'd Do Anything, but she really does do a good job. Gwion still needs work. Who is the Dodger? He really is quite good.
omg the kid who is dodger is reallllllllly!!!!!!! good!!!!!!!!!!!! reallly reallly reallly reallly really reallly reallly goood! you can tell gwion has been working on his accent! he looks soo cute! were the other boys from the competion there too ? i wish this show would come to australia!!!!
They did! It’s Rob Madge they made it to stage two so got filmed but unfortunately not the live shows, they still act now and also wrote their own show that just finished a short run on the west end
Yeah I agre Ringo. I voted for Jessie too but even she admits that not winning was a good thing cause Nancy isn't exactly the most prestigious role ever. Jessie's career will go alot further than Jodie Prenger's!
Urgh I hated when they showed the IDA clip, I dont wanna be reminded of that moment lol But other than Jodie being there I thought the show looked quite good. And my friend's litle brother is one of the boys, he was in Food Glorious Food, how cute!
