Clip From Live show 8 of I'd Do Anything. Samantha sings 'Defying Gravity' from 'Wicked'. Amazing show and great performance from Sam considering that the song is about 6 minutes long and designed for 2 women. She got my vote this week.
Seriously, they should consider her for Elphaba in a Wicked film. She can sing the role for sure, she looks the role, and she's famous enough to do it.
@Team Queen’ s Fearn Tucker and Bentley Forever thank you, that was jsut plain bad from start to finish. ok her voice doenst have the strenght or spektrum, fine, but then the timing, so like no feeling for rymth and worst part was that acting. it just looks like she is an actor trying hard to act an act and overdoing it too. i came her after hering a not so bad version of another song of her, and she do have an interresting voice but this is 4 numbers to big. celine dion? no way ever not even close. and someone should punch the judges into their couches for lying so much. wow im dissapointed in that performance
@@woswasdenni1914 This was when she was 17 years old and still an unknown trying to break into show business. Of course she's going to be unpolished at this stage. If you saw her somewhere else before this and thought she was better there, it's because by then she had developed more as a performer. Experience matters. And keep in mind that Andrew Lloyd Webber didn't say that she WAS a Celine Dion, he said that she wasn't yet at that level because she hadn't matured yet, but that she had potential.
They'd better seriously consider her for the Wicked film. I know they'll make one, but I don't know how soon. But at 23, she's got some plenty of years left before she grows out of the role.
It's ironic that her competitor on this show, Rachel, would go on to not only play Elphaba in the West End production of Wicked but set a record as playing the role the longest, and then reprise the role on Broadway.
Don´t you just love when Denise says. "actually Rachel has to take a leaf out of your book..." ?! If they only knew who would rock that song a few years later!! All cred to Samantha, she truly is marvelous:) I hope she one day will play Elphaba, but come on... it´s so much fun watching this knowing where some of them end up:D
Several of the competitors from this show have gone on to huge professional careers. Samantha has had a huge stage and film career, Rachel has had a huge stage career, and Jessie has had a huge career in television and movies and some stage work. Just a few years ago Jessie received a British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) nomination for Best Actress for a film role, up against such notables that year such as Renée Zellweger and Scarlett Johansson -- and she even costarred with Renée Zellweger in the film for which Renée ended up winning Best Actress ("Judy"); Jessie's nomination was for a different film ("Wild Rose"). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B_dizVjNTbg.html
Really hope they pick her for Elpheba in the movie of wicked, Samantha Barks & Amanda Seyfried would be the perfect pairing for Elpheba & Glinda. Add in Meryl Streep as Madam Morrible, Kelsey Grammer as the wizard, Daniel Radcliffe for Boc, Zac Effron or Jeremy Jordan for Fieyro & maybe Leah Michelle for Nessa & you'd have the perfect cast.
3:39 you see a little bit of Elphaba emerging... when hollwood starts auditioning for the film, she should audition. She has amazing potential inside of her, and she's screaming to come out
Contestants on this type of programme are so much more talented than anything like X Factor, they have to have an incredibly powerful voice as well as be able to act and dance at the same time. I have so much more respect for West End performers. Half the X Factor contestants wouldn't last 5 minutes on this show.
Weber compared her voice to Celine Dion that is a serious compliment. Sam is just amazing, knew she was a star the first time I saw her 25th anniversary version of Eponine.
honestly I think Sam is amazing, I think this is brilliant for where she was at the time!! And you guys have to remember that denise and rachel worked together on Rent before this show so she knows her quite well.. All in all two amazing talents that have come bigger because of this show
Wow, that is really exciting for Sam to meet Idina Menzel! That is so cool. she was really weak at the beginning, but it was really good when it got more upbeat.
Yes since I wrote that comment, I too have read in the paper that next year he will look for a Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. Scheduled for next March if all goes to plan. All I can say is they will have to make it pretty damn spectacular for the Wizard of Oz to succeed as a long running west end show.
she was amazing in les miserables u did well lady, and you deserved it u didn't get oz but u had a hit with russell crowe and hugh jackman lady worth more than the winner got lol wd xx
Actually i think she did superbly. If you have seen the show then it is pretty much how they do it. Obviously it will come across better actually sung in Wicked as you have all the costumes and atmosphere and more importantly the build up to the song. Sam Did everything that was asked of her and more. And she did the final bit without the back up cast or Glinda doing her part. Seeing defying gravity as part of Wicked will blow you away and you can understand more why it is performed that way
ohh that is soooo cool! i really hoped some one would sing defying gravity and they did! and they got Idina!!! and i met her!!! she was sooooooooo nice!!!
les mis is AMAZING. i recommend you go and see it :) When i went to see it i was front row and the view was great. And i think at the back its probably great. Its very touching! :) its a great show. If you love musicals you will love it.
to the doubters can I Just say Samantha is amazing talent, and ohh look hollywood are now beckoning and rachel yes she is playing elpheba and playing it amazingly and I have seen her, but Samantha has grown soo much as a performer and will now be playing Eponine in the hollywood movie version of Les Miserables GO SAMANTHA !
I have to say: her final "Meeee Down" is perfectly on pitch -- just wish she'd done the second bring me down and the final "aaahhhh" -- that would've made it for me........she's good though.
They are talking about doing a Wicked movie, and I read that she is being considered to play Elphaba. After her amazing performance as Eponine on the West End and in the movie, I think the choice is clear. Samantha all the way!!!!
She surprised me that she didn't go up, " And if you care to find me, Look to the Western skies." She didn't get that high powerful note . She still did and unbelievable job, but it just surprised me she didn't reach for that powerful part.
do you want dove cameron plays glinda (seriously,i think dove will fit for the role, she played"the one who originated glinda'' 's daugter in "descendants" and "hairspray live")
Because this is such a legendary song, and Sam has to follow in amzingly god singers like kerry ellis and idina, i think she got nervous, cos quite a few of her notes are slightly flat, but the most important ones are sung so powerfully!
good performance how sweet is idina at the start sum one said she wud be good playing elphie .. im not sure dont fink shes got the power to perform the massive role 8 times a week
I have to agree, Wicked is totally mind blowing. Can I ask what other shows you have seen? I'm wondering if Grease and Joseph will Appear quite so high if you have seen the likes of Les Mis, Blood Brothers, Starlight Express, Miss Saigon as well as Chitty and Sat night Fever. Those two definitely aren't in my top 5!
I swear to glob I was just talking to my cousin about...if they ever EVER decide to do a Wicked movie. Based on the musical...they'd need to get her as Elphie like omglob, she was really awesome as Eponine in Les Mis an' her solo was one of the best ones in the movie. I'd looooooove to see her as Elphie omglob
Lea Salonga sang this song in a concert and brought the house to its feet.. Well she is after all a Tony Award Winning performer.. you can see it here.. watch?v=jHGCEqxLOGE in you tube..) Samantha is so young here and her accomplishments are so similar to Lea.. for sure she will be as great.... maybe even better!!!!
Is this how Samantha's fame/career started?? (And she has sung in the West End! lol! They knew a star when they saw one!) I'm from the US so of course we didn't get this show here. But this is like American Idol, is it not? She rose from this show to being a famous broadway singer??
I think she did a great job. I find that most people who hate on her version of the song love Rachel. I like Rachel and yes, she does an amazing job. But Sam did well. She's only 17 here. Yes, Rachel's playing Elphaba, but Samantha's doing Eponine. Both are good. Stop arguing about it.
