You are correct maam. I got to see him in Germany in the later 70's as Ten Years Later. But it was Alvin at his best! Edit: this is a good trivia q/a He reformed but due to contractual reasons he had to call it Ten Years Later. I found out about the concert coming up and contacted both of my brothers that were also in the US army at the time in Germany and had a mini reunion at the concert. True story, good times
One of the best. They just don’t write music like this anymore . And if you Listen to the lyrics, you’ll realize how nothing has changed. This song is over 60 years old.

I'm 67 years old and that song was telling us today's happenings! Phenomenal! Excellent singing. Excellent lyrics and that music behind it is just phenomenal!
Truth! Whether by prediction or prophecy 🙌 There has always been the ability to see into the future. What we must must make sure of is that it never becomes a matter of hindsight 😕🙏🏼💜🕎
Me Too ☮️🙏💐🤗🇺🇸🗽✌️ Alvin Lee was a young guy when he did this ~ but now we are older & still don't how to stop the machine ~ Just Stop ~ My brother went returned but Agent Orange finally took him down ~ He raised a family first ~ Greatest Brother on Earth~ I honor all those whom went returned and those we've lost ~ but America is so great & she must stop fighting the World ✌️🙏🗽☮️🫂🇺🇸 Please Come to The Table To Talk ~ Please ~
I had several friends that died in Viet Nam. Just young kids actually. Eighteen and twenty years old. Barely out of their diapers! Their sacrifice brought me to this Bible verse about No greater person is in God's eyes than one who lays down his life for someone else! War is so unnecessary! What does it accomplish? Everyone is affected! I feel for the children of war!
Can you imagine it's 1971 and you're ridin around with your friends jammin to Blind Faith,Cream,Joe Cocker,The Mamas & The Papas,Alvin Lee & Ten Years After,Rare Earth,3 Dog Night,Sugarloaf,Jimi Hendrix,Jefferson Airplane,Fleetwood Mac (Hypnotized),Free,Humble Pie,Grand Funk Railroad,Eric Burdon & War,Traffic,Chicago,Steppenwolf,The Allman Brothers Band,Iron Butterfly,The Rolling Stones....etc
I'm 61 and there was allot of great music after 75 too I think the downfall was when synthesizers were used to change music from being used in music look at ZZ Top they were a great example of that how they started changing their sound with electronics look at Eliminator compared to Tejas they can't reproduce the same sound live and nowadays they put singers in key with it too its fake sounding.
I am 63yr old Alvin Lee and Ten Years After was my favorite band. Coming from New Hampshire that is saying something. Did you notice AL was not included in the RS top 100 guitarist. That is sin. Poor journolism.!.
Today's guitars are used to cover up a lack of vocals. Next to no singers today could of done this. Remember, back then they didn't have the recording studios of today and a lot of the time it was live.

Damn good question, it's a shame really, because the music in the late 60's through the early 80's was significant, truly great artists, bands with band names were the thing. But there is hope, it is RU-vid that is bringing rock back to stage. Rock was dead, but great bands like Guns 'N' Roses tried to keep it alive, and now the youth of today are beginning to see what great music and musicians are all about.
@@Jh-fw1cu probably. But the the way things are - it will never surface. And after a little while, the artists responsible will disappear cos they cant sustain themselves. The music industry is all over
1977 I drove from Boston to Fitchburg, Mass to see these guys, great live band, got pulled over on the way home tripping my brains out, cop has me open the trunk while my friends are drinking with a huge cooler in the back seat, laughing and howling while I'm trying to not get arrested, cop gave me a huge break. 1971 cuda.
I saw these guys back in the early 70's. They changed my life, my mind, my being. I am an activist trying to save the world, since 1970... I live the rural life in Colorado. We are victims of DAVOS. We are victims of the 21st Century and all who brought us here. SPEAK OUT!
Were you aware you were at the end of the Hong Kong flu pandemic? Killed approx one million worldwide. I was in L.A. and went to Devonshire Downs in Northridge, 3 day MUSIC festival. June 69
Anyone else pick up on just how "prophetic" this song is when compared to what is going on in today's world? My Lord, this was released in' 71 when I was still in HS and it could've been written about right now.
This is one of the most important songs in the history of rock. My hope is that the people will wake up and stop being robots and change the ways of governments. Quit believing that they have your backs they only care about power and money . They want to keep people down. People Wake up
Over 50 years and it’s the same. Simple words but yet not simple by any means. I was 7 years old no clue what the song meant but for some reason always loved it. Now it makes all the sense.
Thats crazy that he didnt become more pop then he was !! There was a bunch of great songs on a space in time i think it was called. I loved the hole album !! Great music back then !!
We were listening to songs about wars in the 60's and 70's. This was 1971 and now in 2023 wars still rage on. Not much has changed in all those years, i hope for my kids to someday live in a world w/out war but i don't think it's possible anymore. I always loved this band, Alvin Lee was one of the best guitar players/vocals ever.
The ancients could have sung these same words about their times and their reflections upon change or the current state of affairs and how the situation can seem to be too big to solve...and so they would have passed the challenges on to others or the next generation to solve.
Absolutely! Unfortuantly it never will because there are too many "non-PC" lyrics/words. I heard this on the radio recently and they edited out the supposedly "offensive" words. Screwed it up so bad I had to turn it off and play my copy instead.
@@markhull1366 Probably the creeks and Canaries line. "Tax the rich, feed the poor,...till there are no rich, no more" is trending as a party campaign slogan for 2020!
Hi there. I'm in my 20's & listening to this incredible song for the first time. (Don't roll your eyes.) Music is timeless, and oh, so timely. We aren't so different, you & I. Vietnam, civil unrest, protests, senseless killing, corrupt government, etc. Today, we're still facing the same toxic chaos. "I'd love to change the world," wouldn't you? ✌
Amen the world has gone crazy. I'm sixtessex and I've seen a lot of things and this song is on point. Listen to the song in the year twenty five twenty five also great song
Great response!! You’re lucky to have the great music anytime/anywhere. Yes, I’d love to change the world too. We can be the change we want to see; spread peace, hope and love to everyone.
Who's still listening in 2019? I remember when it was new. I'm 66 now, and well remember when Aerosmith was the opening act for them, at Constitution Hall, in D.C. Man what a concert, and time to be alive! 👍👏x💯
I am 62 and I always crank this when it comes on, usually play it a bunch of times too. The guitar work was absolutely incredible, and the lyrics are perhaps more timely now than back then. RIP Alvin Lee.
My Uncle was a Marine in Vietnam and loved this song Immensely. He's not here anymore but this, Jimi, and others of the time remind me of him and then.
wow!!! This song was FAR ahead of it's time. More appropriate now than even back when it was written..Some group should redo this excellent piece and put it up in the top tier where it belongs..
Vietnam was still raging when this came out. I was a teenager. This song stood the test of time to this day. Amazing. Alvin Lee, the most underrated guitarist. This song is as relevant now as it was then.
Very underrated so many great musicians are gone now, and look at what we have making music now, so much is about money .When if ever will musicians realize how much different they can make, I know there are some but not enough!! Let,s hope things can change for the better again.
This is one of the greatest socially conscious classic rock songs ever written and recorded and it’s very beautiful and Alvin Lee’s guitar playing is spectacular!!!!!! Great vocalist also!! This applies to today as much as it did in the late 1960’s!!
Rusty my friend I'm same age as you and I heard this song for the first time in Vietnam as we got incoming mortars. What did we do? Turn the damn volume up. Sorry to say I'm going to leave this world some day and never see peace but constant destruction.
Flash forward 50 years . Our veterans are 20 years old again coming home from a 20 year war they won Even though the results are the same . Poor people & violence everywhere a nation divided. . The only difference is 90% of todays music is shite . Loves to all veteran's. And to each other .
@@pinkydogbear I'm trans and lesbian and I understand the original context. This song is powerful, magical, moving, and beautiful, I only hope my fellow millennials and genz understand the historical context. We have a much better idea of "what to do" now though, now that all the imperialists are dead
I remember this song. I always got excited when it was played on the radio. RIP and thanks Alvin Lee for the music. And thank you to ALL of the Vietnam Vets for your service.
I was 21 when this came out and it is still relevant 50 years later. I can't stand what passes for music today. None of the pop garbage of this era will stand the test of time like this. 10 Years After was a much underrated band back then.
A close colleague of mine, who was an outstanding social reformer and the same age as Alvin Lee, cited this song in his last published academic article before his death. It summarises the frustration and hope that he carried throughout his professional life. He was one of those who tried to offer answers when others didn't. One of the best people I ever encountered.
I got to see Alvin Lee twice in the 70's once just before leaving Oklahoma to report to Schofield Army base in Hawaii , and once in Hawaii just before leaving Schofield to go back home to Oklahoma. He was one of the greatest lead guitar players that I ever got to see in concert. He could play great rock and roll or great blues. Hated to hear that he had passed, one of the all time great lead guitarist.
I have to listen to this masterpiece every once in a while just to remind myself how good it was. The seductive opening, the powerful lead solo, the moving lyrics are truly ageless.
Agreed, 100%. From 1964, when The Beatles and the British Invasion hit our shores, to 1974, there was AMAZING music coming from all genres of music, and constantly. This is when bands were putting out at least one album per year, and they were usually great, classics !! Even AM radio was great !! I remember driving around with my parents in the late '60's/early '70's, and the radio was always on an AM station, and I was singing along because the music was SOOOO great...now, radio just sucks overall. Big conglomerate/commercial enterprises with strict/terrible formats. Money again ruins something that was once great, and FREE !!! Saw them at Woodstock! Just added this epic song to my playlist. Back then, the message was in the music and we were all in!! What happened to our dream? Reality bites and we grew up!
The dream is still there. Many of us are quite strong and fighting for our own wealth and freedom. It is our strength and honesty that the global elites hate.

Ok let's put it in perspective; this music and all the classic rock and every genre of the '60s & 70s were recorded with basic equipment , compared with today's studios. These were still the experimental days of audio technology and combined with the artistic flow of the era, listen to what they created!! Pure magic! The music of the boomer generation was, is and will always be the best!!
I learned this song the day it hit the radio back in the 60's &was playing it throughout the battles I competed against ! Today! 50 years + later, I preform with shreaders that have no idea how true the words rang!! Thanks!
My all time favorite song. I first heard it on radio Luxembourg when it first came out. I was in the Army stationed in Nuremberg Germany and couldn't believe my ears. It was the best song I'd ever heard and still is.
So amazing. Takes me back to a place and time. Life was so simple then. I remember it like it was yesterday. They invented long live rock. 10 years after made their mark in history and will never be forgotten.

Surprised some little sh*t didn't parade in declaring, "Okay Boomer.", as if saying that has some bizarre quality that renders music which came before them as lesser than their (mostly) disposable music of today.
@Skip ads just imagine, Dylan could have had a serious career with lots of fans sold lots of records had critical praise and be considered a legend if he did, huh? Auto-tune, giver of great respect and tremendous honors.
Great music, unfortunately today's market expects more, more poetic and vague lyrics, more complex hooks and melodies, higher production quality, performance without any errors, rhythmic structure that highlights any errors, perfect pitch every note every time. Millions of dollars to record, produce and promote. All of this and the percentages for the artist are typically low (even Metallica makes their money off merchandise, not touring itself) and without name a well established name you'll never get an audience of more than 100. No wonder artists use every tool available to produce disposable flavor of the week music
