Love that you went over the wiring portion of this. Maybe I’m the lone geek of the group but I like working on these electrical systems. Making it look oem and tying into the factory system is definitely the way to go 👊

On my wife's 04 Tahoe, I built a long wand out of 1/4" plastic toilet / sink feed line, drilled 20 or so tiny holes all evenly in one side, plugged one end, and hooked up my air gun to it. I lowered it down vertically between rad and A/C cooler forcing air forward through the cooler, a ton of dirt / dust came out and her A/C has stayed blowing cold.

Best thing you can do to a non E fan equipped truck!! I did it to my 00 GMC, and 02 Tahoe. Especially here in the desert. Stoplight with A/C going with that crap mechanical was miserable, even when trucks were new, swampy as humid air. It really shined when I pull a water trailer to wet down the tractor truck yard, chill air ( 110 day 55 degrees vent temp) at 3 mph letting the water tank pump spray down the yard. I did have to upgrade the radiator on the GMC as I wanted the tow package radiator. Tahoe came with big rad from factory. I used fans off of 08 6.0 Escalades for both. I did buy the harness from BP Automotive, I also got the optional high pressure switch from them that uses A/C high pressure to kick on fans not just temp. I also added a 300 amp alternator. Your wiring skills are like my brothers, good job. ( Hes retired now from Denver Intl Airport) I did see a 1 MPG increase on the GMC, nothing on the Tahoe.

I have an 03 burb with 5.3 LM7. I’ve been thinking about swapping to oem efan to help mpg and some more hp? 2003-2004 5.3 285hp. 2005-2006 5.3 295hp. Only difference is flex fuel compatibility and switch from mechanical to electric fans. Guessing the fan switch is what netted the +10hp.

Matt! I love your attitude, your superb mechanics skills and knowledge, the clarity in which you teach others, and the fact so far I've never heard a cuss word so my Grandson who's 8 can watch and learn too. You're helping alot of people Brother, especially me, just bought my 3rd Yukon, only have 1 but have owned others in the past but mine has issues. It's a 2000 YUKON 4X4 5.3 SLT, 328,000 but you would never know, it looks clean and nice. My transmission hits hard in 2nd & 3rd, BUT ONLY after highway speeds, 50 mph & over. Then when I start again from a stop once first gear goes into 2nd, it hits hard, then the next gear, 3rd, then the next gear is a smooth transition. NOW HERES THE THING, ANYONE CAN ANSWER BUT I HOPE MATT DOES TOO. When I get off the highway I pull over at the nearest safe spot, shut the truck off for 2 minutes, start it up, goes through all the gears just fine, AS LONG AS I KEEP IT AT AROUND TOWN SPEEDS, UP TO ABOUT 45 MPH seems to be the sweet spot to keep it shifting correctly. HERE'S MY QUESTION: I I replace ALL the Solenoids located under the trans pan do you think that should fix my issue? I already replaced the shift sensor located on the driver's side of the throttle body. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
@Rokx80
@Rokx80 Год назад
Sounds like your transmission needs a maintenance or (hopefully not) a rebuild. Greets from Germany, I drive a 6" suspension lifted '03 Suburban on 35s. Shop had to rebuild my 3rd n 4th gear last winter.
@letgodbetrueandeverymanali3656
@@Rokx80 Sorry to hear you had to rebuild the gears, and thank you for the information. Your truck sounds nice. Mine has a 3in lift but going to a 6 eventually myself too. I'm going to replace the Solenoids in the 4L60-E Transmission first, if that doesn't work off to the tranny shop to spend about $2,500.00 to rebuild it. The truck is worth it, everything is pretty much new already from having to upgrade many parts this last year since I bought it. They're only going to go up in value, especially when the world is getting worse and worse, people are going to want 4x4's and trucks to bug out. My truck is my BUG OUT VEHICLE, it's set up for overlanding. Cheers from Southern Utah U.S.A. Brother. I live in America but I'm Welsh & Scott's Irish.

That's because the engineers have determined that those temperatures are "ok" and within normal operating spec. Beyond and below that the needle will move to reflect the actual temperature. Billy Commuter and Sally Home maker will bring the car to the mechanic if they see the temperature needle moving; even though it's not in the red. On older cars that's not the case. My 91 Mercedes diesel reflects the correct coolant temperature ALL THE TIME. It's pretty cool watching it cycle through its motions. Leave the AC on with the car idling in the hot garage (our garage isn't insulated) and you'll come back to ~115*C temperatures with the fans on high. It doesnt get higher, just kinda sits there.

Glad you ended up with 10AWG wire, these fans are power hungry. Oh and 10AWG wire is typically only rated to 30A, so you are stretching it a bit with the 40A fuses. Probably fine, but melting wiring is never fun. Bigger wire means less resistance through the wire, and less stress on the relays/fuses. You have to watch out on the cheaper wire, anything under the hood should really be GXL or TXL automotive wire, because it is rated to 125C (257F) and way better suited for under hood temps. Most common off the shelf wire is only good to like 80C (176F). All the factory wiring is either GXL or TXL under the hood, and probably throughout the vehicle really. I skimmed through most of the video but it looks like it was well detailed, this is a very nice resource for this mod. Thanks

You can change it however you want. With HP tuners you can tune everything yourself. Or you can data log and find a good tuner to do it. These engines really wake up with a good tune. I’ve watched quite a few tuning videos trying to learn on HP tuners and you would be amazed by how much GM dumbed down the factory tune. I guess it was to please the epa.

I've been wanting to do this conversion for yrs on my 03 Tahoe. I have all the parts, including the factory harness lol. FYI-- fans up to 2014, are all the same. You def don't want to use an aftermarket harness. They don't hold up. On a really hot day if the electric fans kick on alot, the harness will melt. So if you can grab a factory harness, along with the convenience center with all the relays for the fan, do it. Another thing to think about---you probably have the 130-145 amp alternator, so you might want/need to upgrade to a 160 amp alternator. When those fans kick on they do pull power, and if you have the ac going, along with music, headlights are on etc, your amp gauge will dip. Keep an eye on that shitty Amazon wiring! Def don't want them to melt either. Again--these fans do draw power. Nice vid--again 👍🏻

Excellent. Get a tube of automotive electrical silicone grease and put some on each fuse & relay pin when assembling. In fact use it on all the electrical connection points. If the Auto Zone guy looks weird (or tries to sell you tiny light bulb packets of the stuff for way too much money) just find someone who knows what you are asking for. It will prevent corrosion down the road and helps a lot with the cheap Chinese metal used in pins and fuse blades.

@@jimmyramirez8844 honestly I can’t remember but I had to jump the wire for both fans to work. I have a red green connector on my ECU, from what I gathered is you want red blue connectors or an ECU from a red blue.

Thanks for the video. I’m looking to do this upgrade on my 2003 Sierra 1500. I have already picked up a larger radiator and will hopefully get the fan assembly and factory harness in a few weeks. My question is about the computer tuning to tell the fans to turn on. Will this work on my 2003? And if I can’t find a local shop to do it do you know any mechanics I could send the ecm to tune it?

I have an 2003 burb with 5.3 LM7.

Clean job as usual! I’m really curious about any mile per gallon gain from this

I noticed my AC performance degraded just a hair at an extended idle on an extremely hot day after adding an auxiliary transmission cooler that my suburban did not come with at all.

You should check your refrigerant level. My trailblazer i run two electric fans from a 2002 camaro. With both fans on with low refrigerant was cold but not super. Then once I was able to determine my shrader was leaking it was cold even with no fans on at all.

Im about to do this mod on my 04 avalanche. I have the fans and harness. Would it be worth buying hp tuners and doing it myself and did hp tuners cost? This is a great video btw. If I was this video before I bought harness I definitely would be wiring up fans they way you did yours.

It varies , back in the 70's removing the clutch fan was one of the most popular " bolt off " mods done , it is called parasitic horsepower drag .....most often replaced with a flex fan , where at high RPM the blades flatten out ......high RPM is where it is most noticed improvement

you wont see much improvement until the clutch locks.
