Just FYI, the mission said it will change your rank to "Dutchy" because that's the highest you can go as a subject. It's been an issue for a while now, and I really wish they would update the tooltip to tell you. Also since Bulgaria is a formable nation, I think that mission is one of the easiest ways to get an early Empire Rank..
@@todortodorov5299 me wanting to form byzantium as Bulgaria. Which 100 years after doing so my ruling dynasty suddenly became greek even tho my primary culture is bulgarian (swapped back after formimg byzantium) It was curses. Greek was only left in athens due to its monument
@@Pykerivous that's fine. It's kinda accurate historically. Now I want to do it. Never considered that I can swap back after forming Byzantium. I've considered starting az Byzantium and changing primary culture to Bulgarian though.
I played as Bulgaria too a week ago. I couldn't become independent until 1460. After defeating the Ottomans they then got dogpiled by their smaller neighbors, Venice and eventually the Mameluks so I couldn't get my hands on a lot of territory after the 1st war. Eventually I became the no.1 Great power, completed all the missions and got bored in the late 1600s (normal difficulty). It was definitely fun and more rewarding than starting as a large independent nation. Thanks for doing this video!
For the "powerful starting ideas" thing I think you were thinking about generic anatolian ideas. Ramazan and Dulkadir both have them and start with 20% CCC and 5% discipline.
@49:00 that's Albania saying "hey, this Bulgaria guy is getting a bit big and I am scared, better cozy up to someone equally big to keep them off of me" and France responding with "yeah I don't need another European superpower. Let's keep them in check by allying this nation to limit their options"
27:20 Totally agree on your points about a siege rework. For one, i would like to see some interactions with supply like naval blockades and complete encirclements. Might be hard to implement but cities like constantinople should almost be impossible to conquer without a proper assualt (and it should house a sizable army) while forts like Kerak (out of the top of my head) should not be assualted but sieged down.
You should probably have kept the ottomans alive and used their perma claims from their mission tree to supplement your lack of tree. They would’ve taken their first mission when they took Byzantium so it should have been easy enough.
Didn't they Not Take the Mission because they didn't make constantinople their Capital? Maybe because they were instantly declared upon by the mamluks.
The one change to the warfare system I'd do is change manpower. It should be greatly expanded (atleast x2-x3) BUT the lower it is, the lower the quality of your troops, the more debuffs you should get (like more unrest, increased dev cost etc) and it should tick up much slower.
I'm with you, except for making it tick up slower. If you're playing a minor, you'll get one war per ruler because you never have troops. Plus that initial expansion of your army would ruin you and fighting the rebels because of it would then end you.
I wish Eu4 had a men-at-arms like CK3, customizing my army is very fun in that game. Plus many nations imply that multiple forms of infantry/Calvary were used simultaneously, it'd be fun to be able to use longbowmen and pikemen at once.
I think there should be supply lines that go through occupied provinces and supply armies that are over the base province supply limit, armiess that are cut off will not get any supply limit from tech, forts block supply lines instead of movement. So you can run past forts, but you'll take a lot of attrition unless it's a small army (below the base supply limit)
Imagine going for a second masters knowing you'll always be second to Redhawk? Jokes aside, both of your performances as casters on speed 5 was wonderful. You have great chemistry and both roll with it very well.
@28:00 you should have the ability to choose to offer them terms of their surrender. Happened all the time, attacking armies would make certain promises should they turn over the fort without a battle, like promising to not plunder, murder, etc. And I agree with the stance thing. Be able to pay like 1 military monarch point per month to add +1 to each siege roll for aggressive. Maybe some other modifiers that could change your armies moral, like promote raiding/plundering for +5% morale but will add to devastation and separatism/unrest afterwards. I think that would be neat.
19:55 It's fun but it's not really needed to recreate the border like of an old empire. Ottoman, Russian and Holy Roman Empire claim themself to be succesor of Roman empire but only Ottoman that hold many of the ancient Roman borders + Iraq, Hungarian, Romanaian and Crimean. The only thing important for Roman claimant is holding the city of Roma or Constantinople anyway
I played a game as Hejaz (? I think, whichever one is a Mamluk vassal) and I got Ming to support my independence then no one declared war on me because they were afraid of the Ming army
I think Laith's thing could be "mil tech 4". I realized earlier today that, even when I play the game, I hear Laith saying "mil tech 4" in my head when I get it and push with it lol
I think sieges should be like in CK3 where there is a base set amount to take a fort and then with siege stages giving you a chance to reduce that time so you dont have to be sieging a fort for like 600 days even with cannons. This would basicly reduce the rng of sieges but not erradicate it
my playthru as texas england beat france in the maine war... ive never seen that happen before.. its like 1570 or something and they still own their original possessions plus a few more provinces.. i dunno how rare that is but its never happened in my 3000 hours of playing, france has always taken back all of france
Laith, i admire how you keep up with things, also i really enjoy your content. so i hope that you can keep your studies and YT carreer up at the same time!
27:30 - I agree, there is a lot that could be done to make war more interesting in EU4. For example, you mentioned sacking cities -- perfect idea! In return for sacking a city you could get a lump sum of cash and maybe a small morale of armies increase; but it would be balanced by increasing devastation, decreasing prestige (if of the same religion as the sacked city/province), and perhaps an increase in the cost of mercenaries (who now think they can charge higher prices to a rich potential employer). So if you don't sack a city then you get: faster absorption (less admin point), quicker rate of recovery from devastation, and less chance of rebellion...or maybe an increase in splendor or prestige. Being able to set your armies to different types of stances: aggressive, defensive, concentrate on flanks, concentrate on center, etc. Each stance giving a small buff in a particular bit of battle. Aggressive: extra shock dmg; defensive: resistance to shock dmg; concentrate on flanks: additional engagement length and flanking bonuses; concentrate center: extra morale dmg and/or fire dmg.
Amazing game!! Still wainting for your Genoa game. Maybe a sketch for a Western Roman Empire run? A super commercial empire? Or maybe the Netherland of the Mediterranean sea, stretching all the way to India.
As Byzantium I Aragon conquered Albania, and in a war against them to take Albania and free Naples they had the Iberian wedding trigger super early. It wasn’t fun.
I have an idea for a" challenge" try to play as a loyal subject and make your overlord the greatest power. For example play as a loyal Sweden or something like that.
Bit of a hungarian lesson here on how to pronounce "magyar." The gy is a compound letter, and its somewhere inbetween a y like in yellow and a j like in journey. If you pronounce it like a j that also sorta works, though a hungarian will be able to tell the difference. Better than saying mag-yars :P The plural version is "magyarok"
Sad that PDX baited us in the QnA before the Emperor DLC when we asked for Bulgaria content, and they released whatever this was - three missions for claims and that is it.
Candar starts with +10% Morale of navies and −20% Core-creation cost Oirat with +20% Cavalry combat ability and −20% Core-creation cost Karaman with +0.5 Yearly army tradition and −20% Core-creation cost
Bulgaria is one of my favorite countries in europe ’n I have played as them a few times in eu4 ’n even more in hoi4. Neat fact: Bulgaria was the first ’n the last country with a Tsar with the last one also serving as the Prime Minister of the country
As a Bulgarian I am happy we actually have something unique in our mission tree (no one cares about us usually especially in a period we were Turkish 🤮🤮🤮)
I would like cavalry to actually be good in EU4. I also would like more diversity of army comps. Pull in some of the unit design from CK3 man at arms or imperator units. Right now, armies generally feel the same unless you are playing as a horde nation/poland.
I'd argue at its peaks Bulgaria wasn't overshadowed but it's simply ignored due to the more western point of view on the region, where Byzantium is kinda seen as always having been the most important. But infact the Bulgarians did take the Balkan Hegemony from the Byzantines for awhile and only thing stopping them was a navy, not overshadowed during that time period I'd say.
whats the easiest way to become emperor of hre as france? is it just destroy austria lots and maybe become head of protestant league war? or do they have missions to do it?
I mean you would be traumatized but probaly happy immedatly after that once the hero would come, unforgetable experience So yeah, probs still indeed Saving the day
I still think we should be able to roll for an guaranteed stat general. maybe make it so that they have less stats than doing random but will always have atleast 1 pip in the stat you are after. (maybe how many pips is based on your mil tech so by mil tech 30 you are guaranteed 6 pips in one stat.
I think warfare is fine in EU4. But seeing the Mameluks "liberate" so many provinces made me think "altruism" should be rewarded more. Released nations pay you war reps (or equivalent) for a while, reduce your AE in the neighborhood, etc.
