I’ve never seen a plastic carb. Interesting to explore it with you. Thanks for another satisfying episode in your mower saga. Would love to see a sickle bar mower or tiller some time ❤
The problem with the 450E carb is that the jet has been made VERY small to meet emission requirements. drilling the jet to the next possible size up is often the solution (next size up from the jets original size.
Hello you should clean the bottom of the mower and spray some wd-40 on the bottom it keeps the grass from sticking and I hope you get the mower running. 😊
Nicely done! Usually when I take one of these apart for service I remove the starter housing first, then the tank and carb can be removed as a unit and separated on the bench for cleaning / flushing. I like these newer Briggs engines, very service friendly and no corrosion from bad fuel.
Those plastic carbs are awesome i fixed a push mower for a friend a while back and that was my first encounter and i had that thing running in no time.
Do you have a few usable mowers on hand? Or was that one just forgotten about. Plus, MATE! Those half turns with the mower at the end were spectacular, shows you definitely back that experience.
Brilliant channel. Only just discovered it!! Going to have to do some binge watching!! Great to see you don't have annoying music (I don't think you have as anyway!)👊👊☺️☺️👍
My dad had an old Briggs mower with a plastic shield. Was never really serviced as far as I’m aware, was left over winter in a shed always. Used all summer for well over 10 years. Wish I’d kept it.
I bought a house which has a Honda mower that's been left outside, to the point of where the housing is rusted. I wonder if I'll ever get that mower to run again. 😅
How often do you come over a new mower? I can see how much as you can prodjuce Im not good to write in english Im living in the south of Sweden our little village is called Sonnarp and this is my paradise on this planet I love to work at home in my garage and repair mowers, tractors and orher machines. I have two old Belos ILO222 and 275K. Two Stiga Villa from the 1980’s with very rusty rotorboards I cant find a better youtube Canal and producer like your!👍🏻 Best regards/Johan Ståhl
Great video Dag, I have a couple questions though. Do you still have the B2100? Do you keep all of your restorations? If so I think that would be a cool video idea, show all of the tractors and stuff you still have and how they have been holding up. Anyhow keep them coming I love this channel of yours
we have one of those, but i don't think it has the briggs engine. Absolute pain to get started cold without easy start. the carbs don't like having fuel sat in them over winter either. they're not bad for the price though.
You have the old style module fitted in yours, they have changed this to sort out the surging issue. If you look at yours from one end you can see two brass parts one each side, the new one only has one.
@@TerryLawrence001 thanks for the replies! I am surprised that the USA has stricter emissions than EU, I imagined it would have been the other way around 👍
Erm never seen an air filter cleaned with water and soap ,?? always done mine with clean petrol.then re oiled. Save chance of water not fully evaporating
You would think after leaving this mower outside to Rot for 2 years, you would have done a proper job and fully restored it, instead of the half-arsed job you did on it. One of my golden rules is "if you going to do a job do it properly or don't do it at all".
I pilled one of those apart recently. I was surprised and impressed at how easy they pull apart and reassemble. Made me wonder why repair shops charge so much to work on them.
See the difference is, when others leave their mower outside, it's just neglect. For you, it's future content! All joking aside, even such a small machine is still a machine that got retored, as it should. That's the part most people don't do and just throw them away, so well done!
Seems everything now is made out of plastic. I wonder when the entire mower will be some form of plastic, even the casing and pistons. I am sure those parts are being investigated to see what type plastic can withstand the combustion and heat... Who knows... Thumbs Up!
These are the late engines that ruined B&S reputation. Anything post 2005 stratton is not known to be reliable. You need to get a Honda HRU194 and restore it; best quality mowers ever made and 40 years old! I very recently had a walk behind Honda HRU195 with over 10,000 hours on it, worked perfectly except for the rubber valve stem seals that needed replacing
It never ceases to amaze me that the Brits and Americans have different pronunciations and spellings for that fuel metering device. Keep up the content brother
I'm pretty sure all those types of engines with that carb set ups surge. I'm absolutely positive you know you have to in large the jet slightly. I had to do that to several mower that I've fixed for people. It blows my mind that this problem exists on these engines
My understanding is that (at least in the US) the carb jets are manufactured narrower to help meet fuel emission and consumption standards. The narrower jets are more easily blocked, particularly with ethanol added gas, causing fuel starvation and thus surging. I've also found that these plastic carbs start to deform in high temperatures (such as those found in the southern US) causing the same kind of issues.
Yeah your right, the 450 series with that style carb needs the main jet opening up just a hair, apparently the new replacement jet cartridges are slightly better.
12:36pm just wondering why he didn’t check spark plug did he put a new one in?? Also was wondering why didn’t he check compression also never seen a plastic carburetor before? Also noticed it’s not self propelled good video though 👍
A PATRON NAMED Nathan D LIKE BROOOOOOOOOOOOOO NATHAN IS MY NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey ... Daggerwin ? ... you never really introduced yourself on this channel ... but you are Daggerin ... I just gonna call you Daggerwin ... I have a question, how do you happen to know so much about lawnmowers, you not only know about them from the mechanical side, but you also know a lot of their quirks and features. Do or did you work as some sort of lawnmower mechanic or is this all just a self tought hobby ... or both ? I would really like to know.
Thank You! I have a slightly newer model (DOM 4/2017) of that B&S engine. Mine is a new old stock - bought it on eBay for $100 and have it mounted to an older MTD mulching push mower deck. So far it has 29.5 hours on it. All of my equipment has a self-powered hour meter (if it doesn't already have one). I have my parent's Murray 22-inch side discharge mower they bought brand new in 1986 powered by a B&S 3.5 HP quantum flat head engine. Still running strong and that engine has over 500 hours on it. They always had it stored indoors. As of 8/2006 I bought a Yardman 21iinch self-propelled mulching mower powered by a 6.5 HP B&S Intek overhead valve engine and that as of this last Saturday is up to 302.47 hours of runtime. The gas tank spung a leak at 165 hours, so I replaced that for one with a larger capacity. I had to replace the catalytic muffler at 243 hours to a standard muffler, then the electronic ignition coil gave out at 287 hours. So... around the 200-hour period I had to replace some things. It runs better than new! No, you cannot have too many machines to "Play" around with.
Hey machinery restorer I have a masport 200 series 18 lawnmower with a 450e series on it and for some reason it is hunting and surging. I have replaced the carb and the spark plug and it is still running rough. can you help
I'm not gonna pick on you or beat you up. Just giving some facts. That STP is garbage. It doesn't burn like gas. Berryman's Carburetor and Injector cleaner does. You can use it to back a car up on the lift to change a bad fuel pump. I'll watch anything you post but there's a bunch on this very subject with a bunch of garbage mixed in. Very well made video.
Great video. love watching your videos. i do not have a building/shed to put my push and ride on mower in. so i put a heavy duty trash bag over the motors After the engine is cold after i use them. i do drain the gas out of them in late fall, including draining the gas out of the carbs. this seems to work for me.
Seriously depressing how much plastic B&S engines use now .. mind you, not just Briggs.. everything is plastic these days. Do you think this engine will last 50+ years like the older ones do?
Hi, hope you don't mind me asking but I'm struggling to find a fuel tank for my Murray ride on mower, I can't send pictures on here but do you have an email I can contact you on just to see if you may have one I could buy from you? Cheers 👍
Tut Tut Tut Sir. May just be a cheap push mower but they are the bread and butter of most gardens. My push mowers are in the reagion of 2k+ and id litelarly behead the person who dares abuse them. They make more money than the high maintenace ride on mowers. Ill forgive you as i really enjoy your videos.
I always put gloves on when working with diesel fuel or carb cleaner, or anything else like that. And it annoys me because at work I get called a wuss because I want to protect my hands and body? It doesn't make sense😂
Excellent job bringing that mower back to a useful life. It may be only a humble push mower, but it is perfect for someone's smaller yard. The video shows it cuts very well. Also, for those who dislike and deplore plastic carburetors, you have demonstrated how eminently rebuildable they are. This is an education for me. Thumbs up from USA.
I wouldn’t worry about people commenting about the oil level I thought it was just fine that it was slightly higher level because after so many uses it would consume a little over time sometimes.
We have these in Australia badged by Victa (blue deck, grey handle). Those little 16 inchers are a good second mower option for really awkward terrain. A steep grass hill that slopes to a concrete gutter is very sketchy unless the mower is light and nimble like these ones.
So true. I actually have a 13 incher that I use basically as a bagging weed wacker. Not just steep banks (have a few of those), but tight spots where the bigger mower won't fit. Bought it on a whim and can't believe how I lived without it, lol
nice little mower, we have one thats smaller (which yes, is possible...) which i may have accidentally left outside all winter, we live in quite a snowy bit of america, so it was under about a 6 and a half foot (2 meters or smth like that) snow drift... though we dug it out in early spring, replaced the oil, replaced the fuel, and vroom, runs fine now, was a bit smokey at first and a bit down on power for the first mow, but after that, it was fine
Excellent video :) also great shape for 2016 year Lawn Mower push type not sure Cobra version who makes them and hp is but does super well job for sure! But great video on tune up too !
