I Did Not Need To Bring My Backpack On This Idaho City Day Hike 

Located next to the airport in Idaho City are two trails through forest landscapes that make treks during your Idaho City visit. Idaho City is a tiny old mining town less than 2 hours from Boise, North of Lucky Peak Reservoir. The Buena Vista Loop trail takes you around Idaho Cities backcountry airport for a nice, level, 1 mile stroll. At a junction a half mile into this hike is the Charcoal Gulch trailhead. Charcoal Gulch is a 5 mile out-and-back that climbs almost 1,000 feet in elevation. Though it’s possible to camp at some of the dispersed campsites along the trail, this adventure is really meant to be a day trip. Hike this trail early in the day, soak at the Springs in the evening, grab dinner and drinks at the Gold Mine, and stay the night at Inn the Pines and you have one great day trip in Idaho City!
