I was hoping someone would mention that. The slinger splashes cooler condensate water against the hot condenser to cool it down and make the whole machine operate as efficiently as possible.
I was impressed with the way you put that air conditioner in that window the first time. Would love to see a complete install from the beginning. Awesome piece of work!
I did the same thing about a year ago on my mother’s AC🤪 Seemed like a good idea at the time. We all need to experienced the down side of life to appreciate the good times.. I really enjoy all your videos. Keep moving forward!
You have project burn-out. Don`t feel bad. I drove 20 miles this morning to get an early kayak ride in and left the dang paddle home! Came home and hit local pond before the sun and heat get bad. Haaa
In California store employees aren't aloud to stop someone stealing a cart full of stuff. But Walmart has people checking the receipts of people who did pay. Kind of ironic.
@@marion_k_b for years people in other states have made fun of CA for stuff like this. Now it's happening in those states. Not as bad as here, but it's coming.
So just get you a nicer one and don't worry about it, I've learned a lesson from you! 😊are you doing uber deliveries? I do some on the side. I work full time at cfa.
The think I noticed about the greeters checking your receipt is they just look at the receipt and not what's in the bags. I am sure they are just trying to put up the image that they are trying to prevent theft. I tell them "No thank you" also.
Well Horse hockey , you did an oh oh . You are just human Dave don’t beat yourself up , we all still care about you . Glad you got the trans Jack and you are correct , by the time you go get an rent one twice it would make sense to just buy one and when finished do what you need to do with it . Maybe there are more uses for it there maybe not . Glad you got AC for the van . Give Bella a rub for me , stay safe , have fun.
I live in a 2013 E250 high top. I was in Southern Florida last summer and did the same thing. Dave thought I was doing a good thing but I ruined my air conditioner so I know what you're about to say Hey.
I have an ancient window air conditioner. 23 year old (Fedders) from Walmart. Anyway, back in the day when appliances came with manuals. It said in mine that it was normal to have approximately 1 inch of water in the bottom. It may have said something about keeping the Flux capacitor cool 😎 Thumbs up 👍 Carpe diem
When a longtime friend of mine made a El Stupido mistake, we'd simple state " The Dave Did It Again " !!! Yes, his name is Dave, or rather The Dave due to his continuous and never-ending mistakes. Keep'em coming, you're creating content with every " The Dave Move " you make. Many more, we're learning from yours. Always, Syn Silver.
Dave you have a destroyed unit take the bottom off to see what's going on. I would think you could drill a 3/4" hole in first end you drilled should drain most of the water. Good luck.
Things happen, no one is perfect. You've had a lot more good fixes, don't worry yourself with that one. AC looks good installed. Good on the sunshield for the Coachmen too. I'll be happy to see fall, tired of this heat. One chore at a time. 🙂👍
when you closed the van door I noticed the internals in the AC really shake around quite abit.,, My advice is to shut the door more softly or the copper lines will vib loose and it will harm the internals of the AC ,,
Dave, your little drill mistake happens more than you know! I worked for an a/C company and new rooftop units being installed sometimes get a screw where it shouldn't and there goes all the refrigerant. For repairing little window rattlers like yours there is a special Epoxy cement that will seal the hole up. But you still have to evacuate the system and charge up the refrigerant. Usually not cost effective to repair unless you're in the trade or have a buddy that is. Live and learn.
I've done that exact same thing. Destroyed a brand new window unit.... the pressurized pipes are touching the case you were drilling, I just went and bought a new one also and dumped the broken one.
You know Dave, our large AC doesn't have a drain on it either and puddles up and I thought about drilling a hole for drainage too. Thank you so much for telling us what happened to you. I do not think you did anything stupid. So sorry this happened to you. We are having a hot and humid day in the 90's today here in Massachusetts. ACs are cranked on and off. We have a spa like Eric and will be getting in later. That's a really nice window cover...good idea. I have the same Midea AC in white in my bedroom and it works great. Stay cool Dave.👍
I totally agree in not being forced to show my purchase receipt at the exit door. I feel it’s a slap in my face questioning my honesty of character. No other store I shop at does such rude behavior assuming we’re all thieves. I was once asked for a receipt even though the door greeter could easily see my purchase at the self checkout register area as I was moving away from such. I basically brought that to his attention and kept walking out the door. 👋
Dave is you are going to drill a drain hole in the new one, try taking off the back outside panel. That's how I clean my window A/C, I just unscrew the outside panel & then I can clean all the junk that gets through the vents on it. Don't know if yours has the panel screwed on or permanent mounted, but it's worth a try. God bless you & your family!!!
Same thing happened to top me Dave. I was dumber. I saw the line and still managed to puncture it. I gave it away to someone who knows how to repair it.
Well, I should have learned from you. I was cleaning my air conditioner. Went well all done except when I put the wrong crew at the back of the unit. Yup, I punctured the coils. I had the screw in another hole and it didn't look right so I changed it. Two screws to go and would have been done. That was a $300 mistake.
Hey Dave I have done the same thing to an AC . Later on I realized that you can drill drain holes in those low spots safely if you drill them horizontally instead of verticaly.
Dave, consider not drilling a hole, get the tilt right. The water spray from the fan helps cool the condenser fins increasing efficiency. Can I see your receipt? “no”
We did the same thing to a $600 air conditioner. We felt like idiots! As soon as you said I made a mistake, my husband and I was like, "Oh man, that bites! We've been there and done that before." Learned an expensive lesson too!
The window air conditioner that I use upstairs in my house does not drain. In the instructions it says that the moisture will build up inside in the pan and the fan blades will throw the water against the compressor to keep it cool
DAVE, DON"T be putting holes in your Coachman for the windshield cover. What I did was sew a line/rope into the top edge of the cover. I have rain gutters on both sides of the coach so I tie that top rope to each side to the rain gutters. The lower corners you can use a bungi cord and attach to the bottom of the side panels or the frame. you dont need any holes in the body. dumbest idea I ever heard a manufacturer suggest. MY Suggestion on the Air Con is to leave it WHITE. The components are struggling to keep cool while they run, black is a heat magnet to the sun and will bake the components and can cause leaks in the freon system. just my thoughts.
Oh geez, Dave. That could've been a much more expensive mistake, so give yourself a break. I recently read about these newfangled air conditioners that hold the water and re-use it somehow. I don't think I like that. Water is the enemy. One of the most important benefits of using air conditioning is that it dehumidifies the air, and drains it. These new ones that hold the water are a mosquito haven. Not good! As for the work you've got on your list of things to do, please just take a break. This heat wave we're in right now is brutal. The humidity is extreme, and dangerous, along with the temps. Glad you've got your son visiting; it's all about family. Hugs and kissies for Bella! 🤗💖 Have a good, very safe, weekend!
Oh geez I hate those kind of mistakes! I'm really hard on myself so moving forward is difficult LoL!! Glad to see it was an easy swap and that you were still willing to share this to the community. Have a great day! Cheers! ~M
Your mistake isn't nothing compared to mine. I mistakenly was locked out of my condo. Between calling a locksmith, buying a replacement lock and having someone put in new lock, it was well over $300. Lesson learned. I now have a spare key hidden to avoid that from happening again.
Hey Dave I found this drill that has a video camera on it and it'll ID the project before you drill what it is sorry dude! I had to give it to you LOL😅😂❤ Bella stop laughing!
Dave, I did EXACTLY the same thing you did on an incredible wonderful 8,000 BTU window A/C unit I had. I went through the very same reasoning, and precautions you did to make sure I didn't damage anything.... and obviously hit a pressurized line when trying to make a weep hole. Aaarrrggghhh! 🤬 Completely ruined my A/C unit and had to go buy a new one.
That’s OK SHT happens. Don’t be down on yourself learn from armor steaks go on and enjoy. Good video you were teaching the rest of us what not to do hang in there Dave get Bella a nice pat on the head.
In Tulsa Oklahoma if anyone stays in your rig overnight and gets caught, the city will take your rig and fine the property owner $2,000. You must have different laws where you live.
@DavesRVLife your very lucky, but many people here would take advantage of it, I'm afraid. The city workers get kickbacks if they find people doing it. Glad you got your air fixed. I hope your next drain hole works out. I used to live in Indiana, I understand why you leave the north in the winter. Enjoy your diverse channel !
Did you hear Moo moo ate some weed! Poor girl had a bad reaction, they had to send her to the vet. I wonder if they gave her some of that black charcoal it makes you throw up.
Could you secure the sunshade with magnets (and possibly some bungee cords for wind protection)? I agree with a previous commenter about drilling into the Coachman. A year from now you may have to replace the the screen. What if they discontinue the shade? Also, do the vents on the side of the air conditioner that are inside the Van allow water entry?
I've heard or read about AC's evaporating instead of draining. It's all good until it rains or the humidity is off the charts for an extended period like this summer. I would have done the same as you with the same result. Stores asking to see a receipt is a joke. The workers in a lot of stores have no authority to do anything and get fired if they try. Talk about a humiliating position.
It was supposed to say thing and it said state go figure. I went from Google Voice to Samsung voice and it's still messing up. I'm glad my higher power gives me the wisdom. Jury plug in some headsets with a microphone, how to Lou you? Hallelujah
You know, I feel that a stooge that would walk out of a damn Walmart refusing to show a receipt to the very man that keeps theft down resulting in lower prices for customers deserves the fate of screwing up a perfectly good AC with a drill. There are some really silly people out there walking around with a camera in their face. This sh!t is better than candid camera
I live in Iowa and the time is 5:20pm. The actual temp is 99 and the heat index is 115. The heat index in Phoenix is 114. We're hot to say the least and now the storms will be coming in. It's hot all over so hope everybody can try and stay cool.
