If there is one thing i have learned from playing a guitar (i am a beginner my self, just under 1 year now), is that it is the same as training or bodybuilding. Never get discouraged, keep training, keep trying and the results shall slowly but surely come in. Take your time, never compare yourself to anyone else and watch how the reuslts come in. Good job!
I think you should spend most of your time on chord changes, but the spider walk exercise is still a good exercise, perhaps use it as a warmup for a couple of minutes.
This is coming from someone that has very little skill on the guitar so take this for what it’s worth😂😅. But I think it would definitely be worth it if your how I was in the beginning. Just training all of the fingers to get used to touching and holding down strings. And more importantly without any buzz. But that’s my opinion. Again I’m not super experienced by any means. That is just what got me started and really actually progressing.
If you want to play leads, jazz or a lot of blues, do this…also try it with metronome, boring stuff…monotonous but you’ll thank yourself later the path
okay after 10-20 mins a day practicing this, and then what do u do? I only learn new songs and couldnt really catch up with my skill level. So i figure doing this would definitely help me learn songs faster
Yeah I do think the finger dexterity you get from this helps your playing in general. Of course there are other important things as well, but I was happy with my results from this.
thanks for the video man. I'll definitely try this Also can you give me some advice or tips? I bought my guitar like two years ago but only recently got motivation to practice more and finally learned the basic chords like Am, Em, G,D, C, F (or Fmaj7). I still don't know much theory or whatever arpeggios are, and so aside from just practicing more songs, what should I try to learn next? I wish I could afford a teacher, but since I can't it would be really helpful if you could recommend some videos or channels that might help me out from here
Hey man. Your Guitar Academy and Justin Guitar are 2 good free options. They have entire courses for free. That should teach you some basics and theory. And definitely keep practicing songs you like!
Nice progress. It's much easier to play SCoM if you learn to barre the 12th fret with your first finger and barre the 14th fret with your ring finger. Less finger movement and shifting around that way. Your spider monkey method of playing and fretting all the notes with your finger tips looks tough. Learning to barre and play with the flats of your fingers instead of always using the tips and learning to "fat finger" your fretted notes to help keep surrounding open strings mute and being able to roll your finger from the flat to the tip to catch an upper string instead of lifting and moving your finger should also help with conserving extra movement and increase speed.
Thanks, also when starting at the top I have trouble touching lower strings with lower part of my fingers. Did this happen to u. And is it ok because I'm not playing lower strings at that precise moment. What's ur advice ? Thanks in advance. Good job btw bro.
@@hhhh-bn3of In the beginning I was muting all the strings, because I couldn't put the tip of my finger on the strings. I think your finger dexterity and flexibility will improve if you stick with it. I'd say don't worry about the speed first but focus on precision. Speed will come later. And thanks!
it was he was just essentially playing whole notes. normally you play eighths and then youd be going like 4 times as fast. I think that is why you think its not 240.
It's not completely useless. Especially if you mix it up like he did in the end. It teaches finger independence and timing. It can even help accuracy when you step it up like he did. I've been playing over 30 years and I still do these "beginner" exercises to warm up.
I was blocking the strings at first too. Maybe try curling your wrist or fingers a little more? And just practicing this exercise helped me out a lot. But the pinky is definitely the weakest finger, I can't get it to move the way I want to all the time either, a longer finger would be really useful lol.
