The name Alice Cooper is him, not the band. He had it legally changed back in the 70s so that if he and his band had a dispute with their record label, the label couldn't stop them from using the name, and IIRC it turned out to have been a smart move.

Pretty sure that this song was written about the artist's struggle with addiction, alcohol in particular. Once I heard that, the lyrics took on another level of meaning.
This song is about addiction.... and it is of important note that Alice Cooper is a devout Christian, a genuinely nice guy, and loves his wife of 40+ years, and golf... :)
