It took me 12 hours to drive through the desert to drive to Broome In W.A Australia in my Van Betty from Kununurra. I found endless white beaches that you can drive on with a 4WD. I love living in a van, VanLife!
Great video! When we were in Broome as Camper trailer around Australia it was exactly as you describe it. Except... you missed out that the mosquitoes will carry a dog away!
The first nation’s locals aren’t just addicted to liquor anymore but also DRUGS. 😢 Broome is booming with tourism industry but with this people who aren’t scared of police, the place isn’t going to move forward.
Fantastic video! Your videography is amazing... I totally want to go to the North West to put up the drone now - breathtaking! Your take on Broome was pretty much the same as ours... quite disappointing. its so sad that the township its self had so little to offer but so much potential :(
Now? Accommodation during School holidays is a problem most places in Australia, Broome probably more-so because most visitors fly in due to its remote location. No issue when I was there.
We were in Broome for about 2 weeks August 2023 and never had scrap of trouble, Broome is pretty place, we stayed Broome Caravan just out of town . If you want to keep away from anywhere it is Alice Springs we had problems there on several occasions.
I drove up there from Adelaide, the best part was cable beach the high tides and the dinosaur footprints but by far the best was Cape Leveque up the road, the old Catholic missionary up there, i had chat with the priest and the locals, was magic there, and Derby the jetty was another amazing place to be for the high tides, and after that Kununurra the town itself that i very much loved and Wyndam, whete the hotel owner was also an ex pat from South Oz, its also worth checking out the Ord river scheme irrigation project and lake Argyle, i swear that Kununurra produces the best Mangoes anywhere in Australia!
Hello. I am a young man on a working holiday in Australia. I was impressed by the video. I've come this far while looking for tips. I have a 2007 vwcrafter van and I understand that the vwcrafter is rear-wheel drive, so you can't go over sand or mud, can I get a tip??
Hello! So your Van is actually a Mercedes Sprinter with VW branding and whilst its not recommended you can actually take RWD on some sand but it depends in a lot of things, entry/exit points, tyres/pressures, tides, compaction and ride height just to name a few. Its all about experience and knowing the limitations of you and your vehicle.
Cable Beach has signs posted saying only 4wd. Should you get bogged and the vehicle drowned with the tide, the insurance companies will not pay out. And yes, it is a regular occurrence.
from what i understand that when i was in Broome in the peak season is the gray nomads take over all the accommodation and the locals hate it especially the small business as talking with locals the nomads never spent a a cent as they have done the cammel rides and the tourist stuff hence why you see the town empty, i loved broome but as the peak builds you get pushed out.
Lived in Broome in the late 90's. Can understand people who don't like the slowed down pace, Broome time. However went back 30 years later and I was also disappointed at the changes...recall locals in the 90s complaining about McDonald's wanting to move in. I used to love Broome and thought when living there, I would want to retire there. Glad I moved on... especially with Malcolm Douglas no longer around.
Lived there for 20 years (when afternoons, shops would shut for a couple of hours) everyone knew everyone and spoke to each other. Now, it is just a sad place that has lost its character. Mick Dundee.
Nice review of Broome and surrounds. We visited there in July 2022 and after so much hype you see on RU-vid we felt a little underwhelmed. Mindel beach in Darwin was the same. All the hype over the food. The food was overpriced sub par. Adelaide central market leaves it for dead. Anyway, we would visit Broome again but I must admit the surrounds are more interesting.
Been to Broome twice & never stay more than a couple of days, It's a very beautiful place & has great fishing but a very quiet dead town, I'd hate to live there permanently you'd die from boredom......
