You were probably feeling a bit home sick 😔, something most of us experience when we move to a foreign country, unfortunately. 🙏

I am irish and lived in the west of Mauritius for a long time, yes, it can get hot, but I liked it for a change lol, it's the mosquitos that killed me! I love hot weather though, and the street food in Mauritius I love it! I love hot spicy food! I was born in the wrong country I think! ..if you look well enough you can find foodstuff to cook your fav dishes, I was able to do this, shop around in the local markets, you will surely find a way..night life I fully agree especially compared to Ireland, hardly any pub culture at all...fashion sense I agree there but I personally love it laid back, ..stray dogs..well I Iove dogs, I'm a dog person lol but every night after work when I got out of my transport van, I was beset on by a pack of dogs, luckily I know how to handle them otherwise it could have gone badly! transportation was an eye opener for me also, I agree, looking at Mauritius on the map,it looks so small, as if you could walk everywhere but I was so shocked by the times it took me to get from a to b..also in taxis, as I am white, I had to sometimes pay "white tax" lol but I still love Mauritius and will be back! Good video , thank you for sharing :)

Thank you for this video! I watched till the end and I didn’t feel like anyone has a reason to laugh at you. You presented everything in such a sensitive way, without disrespecting anyone. I’ve lived in 10 other countries before i ended up in Mauritius, and have traveled pretty much the whole world. I agree with everything you said. To me personally the most frustrating thing is that the island is built in a way that is extremely unwalkable. Barely any pavements, the roads are narrow and extremely uninviting. I have walked all my life and it is an important activity. Not only for getting from A to B, but also because our bodies and minds need it. I miss walking. That and the food -both price and variety are probably my biggest frustrations here. Wish you and your RU-vid channel great success, you’re giving valuable information and you’re lovely to watch

I agree with pretty much everything you said except two things 1) I do believe people are pretty classy here (especially women). I work in corporate and everyday I see them going to office always well dressed despite no wearing brands or flashy stuff. 2) housing isn't that expensive if you look at it very closely, most houses we rent are fully furnished and if you compare the prices with african countries (such as cameroon where I am from) it's actually cheaper. And the price of non furnished houses are way more affordable. Regarding the heat... God help us 🙏

Mauritius is part of Africa.... my family are Creole no descendents from Indian or Chinese there is a big difference. After slavery was abolished workers were imported from India etc..... People from Mauritius the creoles are descendents from East African slavery, hence our folklore sega dance started like this this is Creole (similar to Haitian etc) not Indian not Chinese etc. Tbh if you want a good time and to see 'Mauritius Mauritius' you need to hang around with CREOLE my family are there, not many of us left but we der! LOL..... but Mauritius enjoys a multi cultural background very much different to the rest of Africa, but I do feel the Creole has been hijacked sadly😥

Well first of all, I would like to thank you for your honest rant. But let me tell you this. You cannot compare the economy of a 1.2 million populace to a 200 million populace economy. Simple maths!!! Secondly, I am sorry if you did put the bar that high in terms of expectations. I guess that the key in joining a new group of people is to embrace them as a group and as individuals also which includes acknowledging their history, background, beliefs and culture. May be then may be you will have a different opinion of the people. Mauritius is a young independent country which was once a slave fuelled economy. It took our forefathers some real guts and understanding of fundamental human rights to coexist on a small island such as Mauritius. And work and live side by side to make the island what it is today. I guess you will never understand that. It seems to me that you dreamt of a Michelin lifestyle but for half the price when you talk about how expensive things are. We are surrounded by the sea, which means our means of freight are more expensive than on land locomotives. Therefore things will be more expensive. Our social fabric is more complex than you Nigerians. We have 4 major ethnic groups whereas you have mostly African. We have a more complex belief system than you Nigerians. We have Hinduism, Christianity and Catholics, Buddhism and Muslims. Yet, we are tolerant of each other. We practice interracial and interreligious marriage. Which I seriously doubt will be the case in Nigeria. I know you haven't personally criticized the Mauritian people which will be foolish of you to do for Mauritius is smaller than you think. But criticising the way of life of people is like critisizing the individual. Tell me what you eat and I will tell you who you are. Tell me what you like or dislike and I will tell you what kind of person you are. You want to be part of the populace? Work with them not against. Food can be imported. Where do you think we get our rice and flour. Just make it happen, get retailers to import Nigerians food. Mauritius has nothing like what you have in Nigeria in terms of natural resources and yet we live in peace and stability. That is a testimony of money and wealth do not always buy peace,health and stability. But mutual understanding and acceptance always yield peace and stability. RESPECT✌🏽💙

Oooooooh Flic-en-Flac is extremely hot! You should wear a hat and sunscreen and not only sunscreen, I learned the hard way when I came down with a horrible heat rash. Took 3 weeks to clear. I live on the North East Coast now and it's not as hot here. How have you been coping with the lockdown? And where do you get your hair done or buy hair products? Not much choice for our hair here. That is a huge struggle for me.

I also have some hair videos (I make my hair myself). But getting someone to regularly make my hair would be nice. Lockdown is actually not bad. Been making the most out of it. 1. The west is very, very hot. You would be better off on the plateau like in Moka, Curepipe, Vacoas. But then it gets very cold in the winter though. 2. Yeah we don't have a soup-based cuisine, we need more African cuisine in the country. Creole cuisine would maybe be to your taste, but it also doesn't have a lot of soup or broths. 3. I understand the language barrier, it's hard to function in English, even though we are supposed to be bilingual, speaking English and French, most people actually only speak Creole fluently. 4. Our night life sucks, but you can try the North but even then it sucks. 5. We don't dress well, i agree. It's better now than it was before, which is saying how bad people used to dress lol. 6. Far too many stray animals, i totally agree with you. No idea why we have so many. 7. Public transportation is pretty bad in Mauritius, and it sucks because they don't work late either so if you're out at night, you're screwed. You need a car. 8. It's very, very expensive. It's close to the same amount in the western world for most things.
@TheodosiaOyibo

Sunburn is not for your natural skin, please find out more about what you rub on your body. If you rub skin safe lotions, then you would cope well with sunshine as a dark skin lady. Also I love it that they are laid back in fashion, that is actually really nice, it tells a lot about their mindset. I think they are more down to earth and simple. you want night life you go to the north xD and yes, we are laid back in our dressing and I don't like it when people try to change that :P stray animals: a real problem here! specially now that we no longer have the right to capture & kill them. the transportation problem is difficult to solve because we have too few people AND cost of ownership of vehicles is HIGH! So good luck with that one! same for expensive things in mauritius. too few people, we can't buy the same kind of bulk that larger countries can... ALSO, we import almost 100% of our stuff! So good luck with that! for the housing part - LOL. If you go to the touristic spots of the north or the west, of course it's going to be expensive! the main demographic for renting out there is to europeans! come to the centre or the east and you'll get cheaper prices. Cost of life in non touristic villages is much more affordable than in places like Flic en Flac, Tamarin, Grand Baie etc...

Hi. Are you studying or working there? I am Liberian/Chinese Malaysian. I think I could live with the negatives you mentioned. I would just try to go to West African countries now and then to stock up on the food stuff I like. In fact, when I was in Afghanistan, Liberian, Nigerian and Sierra Leonean colleagues always brought food from home and we had a fantastic Africa Day celebration. The heat, well, I have experienced that in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Malaysia and Singapore. People escape the heat by going inside the home or office or car or department store where there is a fan or air conditioner. I saw stray dogs and even some horses in other African countries. Wish someone would remove them or help get them adopted in the USA or Europe where they love animals a lot more. Actually, I miss Africa and Mauritius is a place I never visited. I wouldn't mind going to visit and would even like to relocate to an African country as long as it is peaceful (no coups and wars), low crime, stable and clean with good schools and hospitals for my family and me.

Hello sis , I recently gained admission into a Mauritius university and everyone keeps saying to buy a return ticket but I’m not sure if it’s necessary because I’ll be there for a long time so it’s impossible to buy a return ticket in advance into the future like 2 or 3 years right ?? . Did you buy a return ticket or one way I’ll really love your help.
