So like he said if your are homeless you can apply and if you start making an income or they FIND OUT they are making an income then they have to pay. I as a taxpayer would like each and every one of them to prove there income every other month. I know of quite a few that get caught. I know of one family the father and mother both work. I've seen bad section 8s. I had to use one when I was 18. I saw the roaches. There's nothing you can do as far as being clean enough. When they spray 1 unit, the roaches go into another unit. To this day, I'm terrified of roaches. Ugh. Then there was the crime... where I lived was not even in a city, it was more suburbia meats country. I was the ONLY mother who worked in the entire complex. That leaves tons of time to break the law. Im glad you put this out there! It makes me appreciate what I have now. But this truly is a nice place and I'm proud of Arizona for taking care of some of their people.

Thank you for sharing this story and I am proud of how far he has progressed in regards to his situation. My next door neighbor recently kicked his son out of the house for very destructive behavior and he has a similar mental disorder. The only difference is that he goes on and off of drugs and will randomly disappear for weeks on end. He has attempted to take his own life multiple times in the 6 years we've been neighbors. Mental healthcare needs to continue improving so that we can get more successful outcomes rather than spiraling tragic outcomes.

I used to work at a Section 8 office 33 years ago for another city In the Phoenix area. I saw so much fraud and rule breaking that prevented people like this young man (and those who were homeless or truly needed help) from getting in. Homelessness did put people in the front of the line though. Several of my high school classmates would have kids and get into Section 8 and NEVER leave. I have to admit, the houses in my city were not NEAR as nice as this housing community. I pray the city I worked in has upped their game and given deserving people an opportunity to feel safe and secure in a well maintained home.

We lived in a section 8 community much smaller than that. It was all duplexes, each home had a nice back yard and front yard. There was also a community playground, small but nice and maintained. The city workers cut the front lawns every week and we just had to maintain the back yard. The house came with a laundry room that was in the back yard. Everyone got a lot and it was well maintained. Most section 8 communities are ghetto, but you do find some that are well managed specially hoes that the city manages directly with its own workers. And on top of that, if toilets clogged, or stove went bad, the city would replace it or fix it. We were only there for 3 years since we had an opportunity to buy a mobile home.

I am glad he found a pretty nice place after all the abuse he went through. I am glad he wasn't charged with arson and had somewhat of a happy ending and that people believed his story of why they did it. That apartment isn't bad at all. You get the stigma of low-income housing, but other than that, it is fairly decent. Places like this might be few and far between though. The pool is like a soaking tub, the grounds aren't landscaped or that nice to look at, but other than that, there are good amenities, and it is fairly spacious. We need to respect the poor and lift them up, not abuse them when many have suffered abuse all their lives. I feel like this man has a chance now to do what he wants. This is how money is supposed to be spent helping the poor, not throwing it to greedy slumlords.

We are all human. After experiencing what you, and I, as, well, as many others did as a child, you will have a unique understanding of pain and suffering on a different level, so you don't want others to have to experience what you had to as a child and everything else in-between. "Well I know of this lady 65 yrs of age, She lives on sec 8 in NC don't pay no rent, got her 39 yr old son👨 staying with her be filling out her sec 8 paperwork for her as I heard."😲 That dude works a full-time job his income is not being reported at all to sec 8. His mama gotta be doing fraud. See this kinda bs I don't like, Taking advantage of Section 8. When innocent ppl out here paying high rent on sec 8. And some ppl out here still on the waiting list. This dude and his mama needs to go dwn and put behind prison bars for life. And he's probably violating his probation. Who wants a Sex offender staying across from them watching your grandchildren playing around in the yard. Or watching your teenage daughters getting off the school bus. Smdh

I work for Section 8 in Tucson and how you qualify is by 30% of your monthly adjusted income. Elderly, disabled and some families will often take preference when you are on the waitlist. Waitlist for Section 8 usually 2-5 years. However, if you are homeless and in need of a place, please contact your local housing authority and they can connect you with someone to assist you with a homeless program to house you sooner.

@@juanitar3741 You can move anywhere in the US with your section 8 voucher. However there is a 3-5 transition between your old county to new location to get paperwork and inspection completed. You must visit new locations in person and know what's required to pass housing inspection in new county. Make sure these requirements are done or will be done (in writing) before you move. New landlord/property management WILL require a security deposit and application. When renting the moving truck (if long distance) rent for 7 additional days, so instead of i.e. Oct 1-7 rent Oct 1-14. It's the same cost for long distance truck rental however if you need additional time at new location, it switches to daily rate $40-$125 a DAY.

Very informative. As an educator who has worked closely with troubled teens, I commend this young man for opening himself and his home to you. He shared quite personal experiences. Personally, I would either refrain from or be mindful of such personal or even potentially triggering questions...even if it is public knowledge. With everything he has gone through, he handled himself maturely and you can see his growth. A blessing for him to be in this profession (he works in housing right?). There are such misconceptions and stereotypes with Section 8 Housing and its residents. While some may fit the bill, there are others who are good, hard-working individuals who care for their properties. And some S-8 Housing are beautiful. My advice to this young man would be to never refer to himself or the majority of Americans who are earning under the poverty line as "low class". Lower Income is more accurate. Words hold power. Wishing him all the best and to those who are dealing with their traumas head on in this life.

That apartment is better than anything I have lived in. What I wouldn't have given to have a sound proof apartment. The last apartment I was in, I was paying $1000/month in Twin Falls, Idaho. Right next to my complex they were building more apartments/condos. You could hear construction noise from dawn to dusk, 7 days a week. The construction went on the whole time I lived there.

This might seem kind of heartless, but I am disabled with polio from the vaccination. I worked I retired. I’m tired of hearing disabled crap. Does disabled mean, you don’t have to work anymore? Some disabilities are worse. I know that but everybody’s disabled. I don’t know his disability situation, I lived on Social Security when I was in my early 20s. I hated it and I didn’t have low income housing.. You never own anything.

Damn, my power bill alone is $300 on average so that's a really good deal! This place is nice, clean and totally not what I expected. I believe a one bedroom apartment in pinellas county florida, costs about $1600 a month on average (without utilities.) Glad this guys on a road to recovery and no kid should have to go through that. Hopefully his shitbag of a mother and brother have a horribly miserable life!

Beautiful place! I just turned down a section 8 apartment in Pueblo Colorado because it wasn't for me. It had a walk in shower and big closets and an elevator. But even though it was a beautiful place there's nothing around there. No grocery store nothing. Where I live now every thing I need is right across the street from me. And that's why I don't want to move.

I was homeless for a long time and I seen this low income apt its not the taj mahal or anything it's low rent and all utilities included we have inspection come up in March they don't check every single apt but mine is ready and straight no drugs no alcohol well sum people's do drinks sum but overall no smoke outside but people do smoke in their apt which they aren't supposed to do but overall for what I pay a month its good compared to being without place and sleep in your vehicle not good nowadays anywhere 😅😂😁🥴
