Shye does it again, always finding new (or rarely used) tricks to set and solve puzzles. Every day is a learning day!!

I agree. What are some other Shye puzzles that you have seen or solved?

thanks again for covering one of my puzzles! happy to see you find and talk about the main idea, as always :3

You are welcome Shye. I’ve had this one on my list for a while, even had a request for it last week after I made the video. I love the idea here. These Dark Arts puzzles are so intriguing.

Holy cow, that was brutal. It took me weeks of on-and-off work to figure out. I did notice something suspicious in that bottom row, and I figured out that if VII7 (r9c1) was a 2, then VIII8 would be 56 and V5 would be 3. However, that alone told me nothing, so I used it as a node in some other chains. I solved for the 7 in VII2 by contradiction, which I really don't like doing, but hey, you do what you gotta. Another chain gave me a 7 at VI6, which unlocked it. My watch-later list has a lot of your vids now, I'm gonna have to do a lot of catching up😁

Way to be persistent with this one. Shye comes up with some challenging puzzles. I am glad you found a way through it.

Hé ! Hé ! Shye's trickery did not cause me to shy away from the following starting path: 8 in r9c9, 4 in r9c1 (UR conflict to be avoided with the 4s in blocks 2 and 8. The rest goes fairly well. Amusing.

I normally struggle with Shye's Puzzles but this one was a puzzle I figured out and that made me feel good.

So glad to hear that. Do you remember the names of any of the others that you have tried?

@@ponyruns I don’t think I’ve done that one. I’ll have to put it on my list.

A couple weeks ago I watched a video on another channel that covered Bug+1. The lady did a good job covering it, so I when I saw the description of this video included a 'multi-value universal grave', I thought I might have a chance at it. Ultimately, I wasn't able to figure it out. I think the advanced solution in this video is more of an example of Uniqueness than it is a Universal grave, except that it involves 6 cells instead of 4. I had over 50 minutes into it, and I had quite a few BVC's filled in, and those 456's were glaring me in the face the whole time. But I wasn't able to do anything with them, because to me it didn't resemble the universal grave enough. I think if the video description said 'uniqueness' instead of Multi value universal grave, I might have been able to figure it out. Anyway, I had enough filled in so that once I had the BVC solved in the lower-right corner, I breezed through the rest of the puzzle.

Thanks for the feedback Brad. I plan to do a more in depth tutorial on these MUGs.

I solved it by forgetting to pencil mark 4 in r9c4-6, I thought there was a naked triple of 256 in there and the puzzle fell fast after that. Now that's a forbidden strategy!

I could (and still can) only think of two "forbidden" strategies: assuming uniqueness (a legitimate taboo) and bifurcation-schmifurcation. At one point, I found myself with a 456 triple in row 1 and 2456 quad in row 9 with R9C1 being 24. I didn't think of R9C1 being the green cell during my time with it, but I'll call it Green now. If Green were 2, rows 1 and 9 would have parallel 456 triples. The possible cells for 5 and 6 in block 5 sealed it for me: 2 in Green meant a non-unique solution. I was also tired of chaining/bifurcation. So I placed the 4 and went on to finish the puzzle. Um, "Multivalue Universal Grave"? 5:30 Sometimes I see it. Sometimes, I'm blind to telegraphing. This time I saw the top part.

MUG is a thing. I didn’t know about it until this puzzle.

Interesting, I've never seen the uniqueness argument related to 2 triples consisting of 3 bi value cells each. But I see it now. I doubt I would ever catch it while solving a puzzle

I thought this was fascinating and had to share it. If you do find one in another puzzle, please share.

This must be one of the easiest Shye ??? I've ever done. And yes, I must of got lucky but I noticed an intersection that eliminated a number & the puzzle fell apart after that.

@brucewayne2091
@brucewayne2091 6 месяцев назад
@@JohnRandomness105 something in box 7/8/9. Perhaps what I saw isn't technically referred to as an intersection

@@brucewayne2091 Do I recall correctly that you usually do your puzzles NF? I am curious to know what made the puzzle fall apart. Like the video, I assumed uniqueness and avoided a complicated deadly pattern.
@brucewayne2091
@brucewayne2091 6 месяцев назад
@@JohnRandomness105 No, I use Synder notations on offering from Shye. I also use Hudoku which speeds up the filtering process. I believe there might of been a combo that were looking at a particular cell causing an elimination. I haven't watched how TL solved it

RISORTING to uniqueness when there are other strategies available is pretty LAME in my opinion. If you explore both outcomes for the bilocal 6 in box 4 you'll come to the conclusion that r9c1 is in both cases going to be a 4
@SmartHobbies
@SmartHobbies 6 месяцев назад
That’s one way to do it, Milos.
@shye229

how did you prove it has to be a 4 in the case of 6r5c3? trialing that option only gets me a couple singles and pairs before needing another trial
