As a CrossFit athlete, I know how important it is to have a reliable and accurate fitness tracker that can keep up with my workouts. That's why I've switched to the Apple Watch Ultra, and in this video, I'll show you why.
In this video, I'll demonstrate how I use the Apple Watch Ultra to track my training, including heart rate, calories, sleep, and more. I'll also explain why I decided to let go of my other devices, the Whoop and Garmin Fenix 6 Watch, and how the Apple Watch Ultra has streamlined tracking. With its advanced features, intuitive interface, and sleek design, it's the only device you'll need to maximize your performance and track your progress.

A friend bought an Apple Watch Ultra and sold it after a month. He got only nearly 2 days of battery doing nearly everyday the same stuff: 2 daily hours of Crossfit training and recording his bicycle commutes... I was thinking to try one, but after his experience I definitely pass. I think I will go for the Fenix 7X sapphire.

I went the other way from an Apple Watch to a Garmin Epix 2. For me there is no comparison as a fitness device the Garmin blows the Apple Watch out of the water, especially in terms of running and all the training data you get from it. I also got sick of charging the watch every day or two with the Epix in gesture mode I get about 10 days of battery life. The Apple Watch is also limited in terms of the connectivity, it will pair with a bluetooth heart rate strap but that is about it.

Whoop is the blockbuster of wearables. I literally wrote an email to them like 2 years ago ( still have the email) telling them they should include step count and other metrics because people don't want to have a million devices on their wrists and they were super dismissive and rude and essentially told me we know what we're doing. And I said alright just wait until someone comes along and does what you're doing and more and does it for less than you're charging and canceled my subscription. Now look at them - people are jumping ship for the reasons I outlined in my email to them. They deserve it. If you don't change with the time you get left behind.

If you like simplicity in usage, Garmin Instinct with four hardware buttons are maybe better. I have each button set to the function that I use most and with just a long press I'm there. Each button is able to be set to any of the functions. At first I though that non touch display will be disadvantage but it's vice versa. Real buttons are easy to find without looking on the watches and after short time of using them I'm able to change the tracking functions with just a few pushes without a need to look at my wrist. Also because these watches have non touch monochromatic display they are able to functional up to 20 days without charging (depend on GPS usage and back-lite settings)

Hey man I had the same issue of constantly pressing a button while working on something. Generally a coat or gloves pressing up against the watch. Sometimes just the way my wrist is bent back. Resolved that a great deal with the Spigen Rugged Armor. My intent was more protecting the watch because I’m constantly hitting it on something but I got the benefit of lesser button pressing. Still easy to push buttons but less area for things to flatten across the side to push the buttons. Very slight offset may be the reason. Anyway just an fyi I’m not affiliated in any way with that company just a RU-vid viewer. Great video

Hey ! I hope you're all doing well, thanks for this video, very informative and clean ! I came across this video because I have done 3 weightlifting workouts (30min to 40min each) since I bought my Apple Watch S9. I use the Traditional Strenght workout and it seems like the watch overcounts the calories burnt. I know that apple uses algorithms and that the watch isn't that accurate, but I really feel like it overcounts for arount 20% more than the reality. That bothers me alot actually, because I don't really know if I have to rely on it. I am just asking you guys if you think that it actually works, so I can continue using this workout without fear ! Have a good day :)
@JasonGrubb
@JasonGrubb 10 месяцев назад
I never rely on my watch counting calories... no watches or trackers are very good at it in reality. As far as my diet goes, I eat the same on training days, rest days, recovery days... and don't change my caloric intake based on cals burned.

Love this video, Jason. A couple months into starting CF late last year I considered a Whoop, until I saw the subscription 😳 For a couple years I’ve had an Apple Watch but hardly used it. That’s until I found out I could track my workouts just like Whoop! 🎉 Now I’m considering the Ultra. I’m loving the Athlytic app too. Give me everything I need. As for the nuisance starts/stop, etc., I purchased a strap that goes around my bicep for those workouts that cause these issues (cleans, snatches, push-ups, etc). I just remove the watch straps and insert the watch itself.

Hey dude! I have used Athlytic for a few years now too. You can rotate the Apple Watch 180 degrees so your grips don’t hit the button. I used my Apple Watch 3 to record an IM70.3 no probs too, with a specific triathlon app Super rate the Apple Watch for what we do. I tried a whoop and the data was sketchy plus didn’t like the two device thing and wrist indent either so returned it and got my money back

Im generally not an Apple fan but this watch does look great from an accuracy and metrics tracking perspective. I don't like the actual design (big rectangle) of the watch itself and the price is a little on the 'yeeeesh' side however. In Europe it costs €999.00. Thankfully they didn't add on that extra euro because that would have been TOO expensive 😅

Yes, there are third party apps, but the quality is nothing like the garmin. I will keep my apple watch though; I enjoyed it and it’s a great piece of tech. It definitely seems like an extremely good multi use solution. I don't have anything apple and doubt I ever will and you need a phone to run the watch. I wear my whoop on a bicep band and it is extremely accurate there and I always work out with a chest strap recording to a different app as well. I cannot stand to have anything on my wrists or fingers. If you are wearing a watch all the time anyway and are invested in apple products it definitely seems like a no brainer.

Hey Matt - good question dude. If you're ever going to compete in this sport - then you just can't start or take TRT. Otherwise, you do you. Do what you need to do to get your numbers right if they're very very low (with your doctor). For me... I tested a little low when I was 40 for testosterone, but I was still in a 'normal range'... just low on that range. I've never tested since. Don't really need to know. I just try to feed my body all it needs and hope it does what I need it to :-)

Couldn't agree more about going with the Apple Watch. I was a long time Whoop user myself but just recently let the subscription end. I will be going with Apple as well. It is just not worth the monthly commitment. Ive been waiting for Apple to dial in the sleep tracking as thats what I felt was holding me back from ditching whoop. But the third party apps will be good enough. Been saying for a long time that Apple will put a hurting on Whoops subscriptions once they offer better sleep data. Especially for those who have an Apple ecosystem.
