A married man flirts with a woman.
I DO is used with permission from Corey Emanuel Jr. Learn more at / coreyemanueljr .
Tye is working at his store late one night. He's about to close up shop and go home to his wife when a last-minute customer comes in. She's an alluring, attractive woman, and she seems to be after more than just getting her phone looked at.
Tye is tempted, but just as he begins to consider the possibilities, he receives a kind of intervention that will force him to look at his beliefs about commitment, marriage and what it means to be a good man and person.
Directed and written by Corey Emanuel Jr., this thoughtful and engrossing short drama is a metaphorical journey of one man as he faces a test of his commitment to his wife. Shot with an aspirational gleam in the cinematography that is encroached upon by seductive shadows at the margins, it visually reflects both the tempting atmosphere of the situation unfolding in the film's reality, as well as the internal headspace of a man looking into himself and his history to guide him on what to do next.
The structure of the narrative is self-contained in one location and one moment in time, but it's also essentially a series of visits from voices and figures in Tye's inner landscape. It's a device that's as timeless as A CHRISTMAS CAROL, but here it takes on a more modern, personal resonance. What's effective is how each character is rendered distinctive and nuanced, even within the short format, and their arrivals are handled seamlessly, each presence flowing from one to the other as Tye's thoughts and emotions oscillate.
Their dialogue with Tye ranges from anything from tough and blunt love to hard-earned wisdom, but what comes through is a sense of brotherly love, empathy and community. Collectively, the cast all offer excellent performances, with actor Derrick Brent II as the constant. As Tye, he's a man who wants to do the right thing but also struggles with feelings of pain, neglect and entitlement. But through it all, he's accompanied by a larger flow of wisdom and experience, which help him arrive at a difficult choice.
Viewers can debate if Tye's visitors are angels sent from above, a collective of ancestors guiding their descendent, a representation of one man's conscience and mind or perhaps all of the above. However you look at it, I DO uses its structure to offer an emotionally honest, complex, and authentic examination of what goes through someone's mind when faced with visceral temptation. In doing so, it also reflects what it truly means to be committed, and to make that choice, again and again, honoring it even when things are at their most fraught.

She's gorgeous herself and we've built quite a nice life together. From the projects in Queens to owning a home and an acre of land... this is who I was meant to be with. It took me awhile to learn these lessons because I've had soooooo many women in my life, probably the reason God gave me daughters... lol.

He went and took a woman I never heard of on a personal and relaxing date. I said I was falling for you again, but there will ALWAYS be women around you. I want a man who has guy friends who are good, but I'm his best friend. But in this case I'll always be second to other women. I said this, and he said he felt controlled. That says it ALL. "Temptation is the opportunity to do the right thing." The empathetic, emotional and various perspectives of the men in his life were wonderful without being preachy. The "I do" at the end was a brilliant touch. Marriage is not a contract It is a covenant! Love is not about satisfying your wants, needs and desires, It's about sacrificing them, so that you can put the wants, needs and desires of your spouse ahead of your own.
@MrAroone
@MrAroone Год назад
"Love is not about satisfying your wants, needs and desires, It's about sacrificing them, so that you can put the wants, needs and desires of your spouse ahead of your own." Be careful not to fell prey of a narcissist who can exploit your idealized vision of marriage. You are free to think that, but there are alternatives to this description of marriage which is a social norm that is supposed to serve a purpose. By the way the concept of marriage until death was put in place in a world were people would easily die (war, famine, giving birth etc...) and in rural areas with little opportunities. It was also an instrument to build links between families. The concept of "marriage of love" was mainly bourgeoisie romantic literature (for nobles it was even worse, daugthers and sons were tools for alliances). And in the working class, marriage was more a way to make sure people can make love with God's approval. Today, we live mainly in cities with life expectancies of 70 to 80 years surrounded by thousands of people and in a society were individualism is almost a cult (while collectivism is no longer the norm). So, times have change. We are struggling to adpat the idealized concept of "marriage of love" with the harsh reality.

Thing is, when you get to the stage where you need all these "characters" to come up and tell you what's right or wrong to do, that means you've made up your mind already, and nothing really works at that point. Ok he's not gonna sleep with that woman but there'll be another one, even two or three or even more, and it'll happen because he's not longer happy with the woman he's with, and their marriage is not gonna last anyway. It's true that men usually cheat for different reasons from women, but there's also men who cheat because they're unhappy and want out. And they're more than we think.
@PureRythm

Although this Film depicts a man's situation, I think it goes both ways. Like Women cheat too. And a lot. Not like I am comparing, cheating is cheating, but it had me question, What happens when a person falls this deep into something, that coming back is inevitable? (at some point) Where did it go wrong? Choosing the wrong partner, wrong lifestyle, or was it the character?
