I was your round 1 opponent, ggs! I lost in round 7 in the mirror partially due to a game loss from a decklist error and lost to a friend on yawg in round 9 to update you on my finish. Congrats on the result :)
Owen - glad to hear from you! It made me happy to see you up at the top tables later in the event - happy you had a strong showing, and I appreciate the kind words!
Thank you! As an aspiring Yawmoth player, this is very helpful. For the situation mentioned around 20:10, even if the double Sigarda's created an extra event on the stack, wouldn't you just be able to "re-stack" the -1/-1 counter in response? I think I have done that for a different interaction where more several spells were cast. Congratulations - and yes, that's a heck of a high standard!
Thanks! 🙏🏼 My opponents understanding of the stack was completely off. As soon as the hammer hits play, both aid triggers go on the stack. It essentially functions the same as if one trigger occurred - I can respond to either one, or both. He doesn’t get to stack the triggers around my triggers, so there’s no opportunity for his hammer to equip, as long as I respond.
Hey man, it was a pleasure! Look forward to running into you at future events 🙌🏼 And we can def set something up for your channel. Honored you would ask!
Nice job man! I was playing there as well barely missed top 32 with izzet murktide (I’m 13), kinda disappointed but it was my first competitive event so not to angry about it. Any way well played!
What can I say? It must feel absolutely incredible to take first at a big event like this. MONUMENTAL win in your book, and huge props for snagging a trophy at a big event. Absolutely insane run. And don't feel bad for feeling tired on Sunday, as a casual player I get exhausted just after one pre-release, the game requires a lot of fortitude and focus, I couldn't imagine making it through 3 days straight of intense magic, let alone win all 3 events.
I truely wish they would stop allowing non-english cards in competitive play, especially alt.art ones. While i understand we should know all the cards in the meta going into a comp, it still can slow play, which just feels straight up bad when you hit the turns timer.
I’ve been building up the Yawgmoth deck and domain zoo deck. I’ve come from a standard background so some of the concepts seem foreign to me. Especially the low amounts of land
When you’ve got a ton of mana creatures in the deck, you don’t have to play as many lands. The deck is great 🙌🏼 Definitely check out my Patreon if you want to fast track you’re learning - I have tons of resources over there!
@@Control4Daze Clever trick. I guess the general persona is a bit different from how you look too. Either way I really like your content and am looking forward to seeing more
Congratulations!! Thank you for producing such awesome content and for being such a great steward of the game. The MTG community is full of so many just 100% kind, cool, intelligent people!!
@@Control4Daze I asked the red shirt judges about the event and was told they plan on holding a 10k on Saturday and Sunday. So I'll be keeping an eye on that and plan on getting a group to go. Hope to see you there.
1st massive congrats, 3peat or not you’re an excellent player. 2nd I really appreciate your decency and regular attempts to keep good vibes. I remember when I first cut into RCQ grinding and experiencing some players as just way too intense/sweaty. Obviously we are all there trying to win and pilot as well as possible, but there are always ways to keep it cordial. I try to do the same thing when I encounter new players in any context…be a human.
Absolutely, and we won’t always run hot, win or lose I hope to offer a handshake and that my opponent would want to play against me again/play the game at all. As an aside I still play hammer in paper (waiting on MH3 before I make any $ moves towards other decks), so symbolically I’m double bummer that the hammer player was was… less than fun. Congrats again on the win tho, winning a con is huge and a goal I’m definitely still aspiring to at some point when my work life permits more grinding.
@@JustRightPinedo the Hammer player i faced was a good guy, it was just a misunderstanding. The fact that we were tight on time and there was a lot riding on the match led to the "tense" atmosphere. Afterwards we were cordial and we even spoke later in the event to check in on how each other were doing. It was just the heat of the battle.
Funny to see this on my feed, I was Ben's buddy who came over and chatted with y'all after your match. It was nice to talk to you, big congratulations for bringing the whole event home!
@@Control4Daze Yeah the basic swamp is enough for me especially ever since we've been off of Geralf's Messenger. Anyway, glad to see you still crushing it dude, keep it up!
Grats on the tourney win ! I'm a super casual player, but I enjoyed quite a lot your competitive insights, never thought just listening to a tournament report would be so exciting ! Keep the amazing work and good luck on future events !
Gratz! Love the story about the new comp player on murktide - as someone who is just learning to play in competitive settings I'd love to see some insights/video on tournament etiquette that might not be considered by someone who has never competed before.
def felt the frustration when misplaying/losing. its helpful to see someone who gets the same way at events. I'm still working on it not breaking me down for the remainder. sweet win though man! well earned!
@@Control4Daze nah, just grief. The main problems though are as old as the format itself, combo decks or non-interactive powerhouses reign supreme, and any time a fair deck gets strong enough to hang, the "community" cry's for bans and WotC caves.
I dunno, I see it a little bit differently. Modern is a high power eternal format, so people will be doing high-power, busted things. It's to be expected. It's not for everyone, but it is for me:) As for the B&R whining, I think that's just the nature of the players. I don't see that changing any time soon.
@@Control4Daze I love high power magic, legacy is my fav format, and in legacy, fair decks are tier 1. They may not be the absolute best, but you 100% have the tools to make them work. In modern, we don't, especially not for control decks, and that is due to a whiny player base who hate control decks being strong.
