I feel like people tend to talk about the bio glitter or straws as an easy solution, while the bigger problem is the food industry, and the consumption culture. people have to change their lifestyle in order to make an actual change, and it's harder. Also thanks for pointing out the difference between recycling and reducing!

The salon that I work at is a pretty green salon. We recycle anything we can when possible. We also use reusable things such as hair foams instead of foil, for highlighting/color. They last FOREVER. Sometimes when we get packages, things are packaged in this same foam material, and we reuse that as well. We also reuse most packaging material we get, because we now sell some products online. We use rags for everything instead of single use products as well. Eventually we would like to join GreenCircle, which is a specialized recycling company specifically designed for salons. They recycle color instead of rinsing it down the sink, and even hair! They recycle these things in a way that is helpful, Such as cleaning up oil spills even! I recommend any salon to at least look into it, because they are an amazing company 💕

In italy there's the Door-to-door recycling: every night you put a different kind of waste out of your Door and the next morning they pick it up to recycle it; for example, on monday they collect paper, on tuesday glass and so on; even the non recyclable stuff has Its own day when It's collected. All the recyclable stuff must be as clean as possibile otherwise they won't take it or they can make you pay a fare
@Chrysanthemus

These are very good conversation points in several issues - The fact that more and more items are made so that you can't repair them and disposable, but not recyclable - that is worrying. Recyclable items should be the pinpoint of creating anything new, not items that will be forever here because they might be something that people still won't use. Like if you die and you have this pile of stuff that can be used again - but will they be? Are people just going to throw them away, because they won't find a use for those items? Everlasting items aren't a good idea either in that sense. And now I'm going off on a tangent - thank you for this video.

I loved this video! It’s such an important topic because people love jumping on trendy bandwagons! What I think a lot of people forget is that we are the little fish in the sea. Big corporations are the ones with the biggest impact. I took an environmental science class in college and I was appalled by the impact they had in contrast to the everyday person. While I do try to reduce my waste as much as I can in my daily life, me using glitter isn’t as awful as companies dumping their waste unethically due to shady legislation and outdated (or intentionally unenforced) regulations. I totally agree that little changes are better than none, but people need to email their representatives and push back against legislation and bills that only benefit the companies and harm the environment and the people living in those areas. Everyone needs to use their voices to speak their truth, which is why I adored this video so much. It’s refreshing to see someone use their platform for something meaningful and impactful!

Vote for more environmentally conscientious politicians into office, locally and nationally and keep the pressure on them to get the regulations in place that we need to save our planet!! I love that you spoke about this! I'm someone who gets extremely overwhelmed when I can't completely solve a problem, so I find it hard to just do little things, but it really is so important. I'm always looking for new things that I've maybe not thought about that can help. I reckon we should be putting pressure on companies as consumers, letting them know we don't need mirrors in palettes etc. We should also be challenging recycling plants and scientists to come up with more ways to recycle things like silicone. Anyway that was a long ramble just to say thanks for using your platform to open a discussion ❤️

@@almostacrone8046 I hadn't thought of it that way. I actually can't use the mirrors on palettes because they are never strong enough for me so I use a separate high magnifying one. I think the thing that bothers me so much is that its very strict what you can recycle, compost and throw away, and most people don't know or don't care. What most people don't realize is that if you mess up they don't sort it out for you they just throw it out. So it really matters that you do it right. That you pay attention to what thee rules are. How it needs to be cleaned. Whether or not they allow you to throw away certain things. It matters how you throw away batteries. It matters how you throw away strawberry and fruit containers (a lot of places wont recycle them so they go in the trash. the worst part is that companies are making it harder to follow along. There is this really interesting town in Japan that's taken it upon itself to recycle correctly and they have like 27 (or something) different categories that they recycle into and the entire town has tried to cut down on their use of recyclables. its really inspiring. Anyways, glad to see you're speaking out, hope you are staying safe!

@@pompberry it's important that people realize that the little things we do make an impact, and that there are ways to help fight that. In addition to reusing things, I think it's also important to make the things that we can have last a little longer, stick around. I personally up-cycle a lot of my brushes and makeup containers to be used for different things. But also I learned spending that little extra money on nicer brushes and tools (when I have it) means I'm going to have a product that will last. Buying cheep brushes that I'll have to throw out in ten uses is a waste of money and materials, and I'll just have to buy more to replace them. Same when it comes to companies who put their makeup in packaging that is one-time-use or doesn't protect the products we buy. There's a lot of details that need to change, and I appreciate you bringing attention to this issue as a whole.

I do a couple of things towards helping the environment. I don't use glitter, we only as a family eat meat at most twice a week, I recycle everything I'm able to and reuse what I can, I sew so I mend my clothes or upcycle if I can. I use reusable menstrual products, I wash my face with a washcloth not wipes, I breastfed my children and used cloth nappies (diapers). I also try to buy ethically and responsibly. I could probably do more, but I think everyone is guilty of that, but like you say, every bit helps.

Had a dream last night you were recreating an actual priestess/witch (you mentioned this was a Greek priestess) look and you were wearing a long flowing, diaphanous skirt with a hardened clay breastplate that you called a "mundis" that was part of the actual dress these women wore in their daily lives. It was at the end of my dream and I was so happy to watch you live, going into details about these priestesses and the colors and meanings of everything. You had short black hair (like your gray wig) and dark wine red lipstick on, it was simple yet beautiful. I've had some seriously VIVID dreams lately and this was no exception! 🖤

This is a wonderful video, you have a great perspective with what you do for work. I love how you are bringing up these important topics, the world is changing in many ways and our daily routines with it so this is a great time to start changing small things that will hopefully lead into bigger and more planet healthy changes! As an artist/creative type, I love the art design in packaging BUT most of the time, the packaging can't be used for other things (though I try my friggin' best to do so) or recycled and it hurts my heart. When I see all the PR beauty people get, it's overwhelming thinking of the waste and some beauty RU-vidrs have even stopped getting PR on purpose for that reason. That's powerful to me. And I love your message of using what you already have, hitting that pan ladies! I can't afford much of the products I see being reviewed and so what I do buy, I squeeze out as much as humanly possible to save my wallet while helping curb my purchasing. I don't like wasting product, I don't like wasting money, and I watch a ton of review videos to make sure the product I'm thinking about suits me and if I actually need it. I appreciate your reviews very much in that regard, too. You are genuinely trying to help us, the normal everyday consumer, make sure the product is something we can use and how to use it. There are quite a few products that I actually ended up not buying because even though they are good, I had similar products already and could do the looks without buying the newest, latest thing. I would appreciate some cheap dupes vids or vids for basics we may have already that can do such and such looks/techniques where we don't need to buy anything or buy very little. I am always blown away by your imagination, your talent, and your ideas, Pompberry... this look and idea is no exception, love ya!! 🖤🖤🖤

Where I live you dont have to clean things before recycling, only empty them! Anyway, very interesting video and important topic! I agree with you on pretty much everything, and also think about the environment a lot. One thing that does bother me a little bit is that the focus in these discussions often seems to be unproportionally about just the waste part. While of course that is important, from what I have read there are actually many other environmental issues that are more urgent. But I guess waste is one of the easier issues to wrap your head around, like you can see your trashcan but you cant see your greenhouse gas emissions. I am also trying to make my own life as sustainable as possible. When I want to buy something, I always consider it. I imagine how the item was produced, how it was shipped, how it will be used by me, and how it will end. Often it makes me turned off from buying when I realise the problems caused by the product are probably greater than any joy it might bring. In general I think this is a bit of a life hack, and it also saves me money and makes me happier to have less clutter!

I recently watched a video by Samanths Ravndahl and she mentioned the brand *"Billie"* are now selling 100% plant-based, biodegradable wipes ($9 per pack) so that could be a good option for those that need to use wipes. ♻️ Wands for Wildlife are also getting an influx of supplies, so they're now only accepting used wand donations in February and October now. I feel like a lot more people could also do better if companies also help us all do better... it's really annoying when I already have a product, but the refill is actually more expensive than buying a brand new product with a new pump (companies generate more income just by making more stuff). That's a disincentive for a lot of people, and we're all probably watching our spending more closely these days, as 1 in 10 retail/manufacturing/product workers in the U.S just lost their jobs in the past 3 weeks.

I feel like a lot of influencer tend to avoid this topics and live in this fake bubble of happiness. Other topic is good for discussion is that sfx makeup nowadays, we forget that old makeup materials like latex, can be perfectly work with, takes more work and practice, but using only silicone its so bad for the environment, as well other areas on cinema. We should lool back on natural ingredients, and hoelw to use them, like using oils and learning to massage your skin, ancient techniques that are totally worth it. Just a though! Keep on doing this lovely makeups and spreading conscious around the world!

You look more like a hella cute plant sim to me instead of a fairy, but quarantine has me playing more sims than usual so that could be why lol My birthday is on earth day so I got so hyped when you mentioned it, but YES this needs to be talked about so much more! Its been frustrating me FOR YEARS whenever I'd buy a product and there being a mirror there. Like yes thank you, but how am I supposed to recycle that?? No joke, I still have an empty powder compact just because it came with a giant mirror and idk what to do with it. I absolutely LOATHE waste and throwing something out that can still be used for something else frustrates me so much. I try to limit how much makeup I buy just because idk what to do with the packaging afterwards. I mostly only buy skincare that comes in glass just because they're easier to reuse. Also slightly because I really like glass jars lol

switch to menstrual cups and safety razors! the blades of safety razors can be buried once they’re dull. also bamboo toothbrushes are a great option over typical plastic ones :)

I find it really sad, that most of the products are designed to throw them away after some time and replace them. My family lives in a house with old furniture and my heart is bleeding every time I'm visiting other students, who have this furniture that is designed to throw away after graduating. I would love to have shops where old furniture is sold by students to other students.

Definitely would suggest better quality of products that last longer, and only buy things that we need instead of constantly consuming, using products in multi-use ways so you make the most of them.

Didn't watch the whole video yet because Im tired af and need to go to bed but I just wanted to get out there that you speak straight outa my soul, I try to reduce waist when it comes to my day to day life and traveling because I know my hobbys produce a lot of extra waist, I live vegetarien but try to throw in a some vegan meals here and there because one vegan meal is better then none but at the end of the day Im just really overwelmed by all the enviromental problems or society is creating at the time and cant cope with dealing with every single one of those on a daily basis and feel guilty about my existence I guess?? Got this got so rambely Just because as little as Im able to structure my more or less responsible impact on the issues, Im not able to structure my thoughts about. I just hope I do everything Im able to do and that it will be enough to make a small change

I looked into the mica industry, it was horrible. I use it for soaps, candles and cosmetics, and I now pay extra and source ethically mined mica. Also, I'm in the UK, and we get several different bins given us to separate our waste. Is there anything like that in the US? Loving the look, I want it all on my face. Can I just, like, copy and paste 😜😆

I've seen drag queens use an old, worn-out wig to add volume to a new wig project. So that's an idea if you want to get into building/styling more wigs.

While on this topic, don’t beat yourself up if you’re not as sustainable as you want to be! Not all of these options are accessible! Some people are not always able to afford cleansers or able to stand and wash their faces everyday so they need to use face wipes - please don’t bully others about how sustainable they are! Any way you can be sustainable is good enough!

Not gonna lie, I've been swapping out all my plastic brushes whenever possible and using Sable brushes for when I'm painting. I just noticed that plastic brushes shed like crazy and cause me needing to dispose so many of them from wear and tear. Swapped a few of them for real Sable and you know what? Not a single shed hair and they don't fray so much. I know vegans will disagree with me, but I rather use animal products that don't add to the plastic problem than use an inferior product that contributes to the problem.

Well, all of the makeup brands that are choosing to go vegan and cruelty free, BUT are still manufacturing their products in China, are most likely to not be cruelty free at all. China has laws that oblige makeup to be tested on animals because those products are intended for human use and consumption. One of my friend is a chemist that works in China for brands like Chanel, Dior and Prada, and her main job is to process raw material destined for makeup use and she can assure me that all raw materials, finished product and such ARE tested on animals. Sooooo what is really cruelty free these days?
@kithaa105
@kithaa105 4 года назад
That's for products that are sold in China, they can manufacture anything you want but as long as they do not sell the products there it wont be tested on animals, for example brands like maybelline, mac or the ones you told can claim to be cf but as long as they sell theirs products in China they HAVE to tested it on animals, NYX in the other way is made in China but the products are not available there because they are cf and they need certificates that says that all the materials they use are not tested on animals to have a certification like leapping bunny or peta gives

It is overwhelming because of what you said. THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING, there's always a little catch. It's impossible to be 100% vegan, 100% eco-friendly, 100% cruelty-free, animals and human, 100% ethical, etc. The only thing we can do, is do anything within our reach. Just do what we can and try to do better each time without stressing out because of what we can't do.
