Usually in the "good guy - bad guy" movies the "good guy" is a jerk, but not in this one. I mean, Felix is not mean towards Ralph, he just doesn't know how to treat him correctly (and let's not forget that the Nicelanders treat Ralph openly hostile)

The scene where Ralph destroys the Car always breaks my heart. So often we hurt people not from places of hate but from places of love. By thinking we have to save them from them selfes, by taking away their agency because we believe, wholeheartedly, that we know better. That we know best. That it is all for the good of the other person. One of the hardest lessons to learn is that you can really only ever fix yourself. You can lend your friends an ear, You can lend them a shoulder to cry on and a hand if they ask for it. You can offer help and support, but at the end of the day, They are the one that has to take it. That has to acknowledge that something is amiss and they can't fix it themsleves. And sometimes you have to take a step back and pray that you can at least be there to break their fall.

Legitimately one of the most difficult to watch scenes Disney has ever created, but also in a film ever. It hurts to watch that. The music, the cuts between Ralph actually smashing her dreams and the extreme emotions on Vanellope's face... the pain, sadness, hatred even, it's pretty brutal.

This film managed to not only craft a SURPRISINGLY deep story for a video game style movie, but it also had some AMAZINGLY deep lore on 3 games they created....and included some INCREDIBLE cameos and references for some of the longest lived game franchises. I think it's more of George/Lizzie/Ralph from Rampage. Pretty much the same game. But you play as the Creature destroying 2-3 buildings, instead of fixing them. (Edit) Each level adds the number/height of buildings. And at some point, army soldiers, tanks, and helicopters start coming in.

There is also a lesson for the rest of the characters in Fix-It-Felix Jr. For the main character, Felix, and the rest of the side characters too. They don't appreciate Ralph for being the villain. Treat him like a second class citizen even though, as shown with not giving him a house, not inviting him to the anniversary party, and just being room and, without him there is no game. So when they lose him, they learn the hard way that they could end up homeless. Just as the hero is important, so is the villain. And like the support group said, being 'bad' doesn't make you bad.

When I went to go see this for some reason I completely messed up the time and accidentally walked into the end of the previous showing. I just saw this creepy bug monster and realized I was in the wrong showing and walked back out to wait. Luckily I didn't get enough and it was brief enough I actually didn't remember his face, so the twist wasn't spoiled. But when you see only part of that scene, with no context and no resolution, its enough to give you nightmares, even when I watched the whole thing play out later.

This film is one of the strong 3D movies for me and it holds a special place in my heart. The message was incredibly relatable and the twist in this caught me off guard. I also didn’t get a lot of the game references but it certainly made me nostalgic for the sweets cause I was a sweetaholic growing up. And I liked how creative everything was like seeing the people playing outside of the game as you said. Also I was laughing so hard at the Laffy Taffy part because you were questioning their sense of humour and I was rolling haha - I think the Laffy Taffy totally have the humour of children though and I love that. Kids usually find it utterly hilarious when adults hurt themselves. But that scene is one of my favourites cause I totally ship Felix and Calhoun too :) And I’ve said this on Patreon but I don’t think Ralph was really that selfish. Consideration works both ways and they were not willing to understand his perspective. Being put in the position he was in clearly made him depressed. Yes he had a “duty” but it was at a cost to himself. I don’t personally think that taking care of what your needs is a selfish thing especially considering his circumstance. But they did a great job with Ralph…I was totally invested in his journey. The sequel is good too but this one will always be my favourite.

Because all the main game are made up I don't think you need to be super knowledgable about video games and video game references. Its written in such a way that any references are easy to get even for non video gamers, and without being in your face. Most of the "references" are in universe to this movie anyway and they end up explaining, like "Going Turbo."

Just a recommendation for anyone watching this movie for the first time - please don't get the false idea that it's "OMG MINDLESS VIDEO GAME REFERENCES: The Film". Ignore the advertising (trailers, other commercials, etc.). People tend to mistakenly characterize the movie by its marketing that flaunts the cameos/references and makes them look important but they aren't - the focus of the film is on a group of very well-written original characters that Disney loves to ignore to this day (especially Felix and Calhoun)

I just had this video pop up on my suggestions.... don't know how I missed it, before. As an "OG Gamer"(I was 13 in 1980, and practically lived in an arcade), let's see if I can help you with the references: As someone else commented, the game "Fix It Felix" was created for this movie, although there IS a playable version of it out there somewhere. I'm an "arcade game collector" and have seen several other collectors build an actual arcade cabinet for Fix It Felix using the movie as a reference point. 3:20 - The "host" of Bad-Anon is the ghost-monster from Pac-Man called "Clyde". All of the other characters besides Ralphy are from various popular video games ranging from the 1980s through the early 2000s. 4:25 - 4:35 - If you pause and look around Game Central Station, you'll be able to see video game characters from some of the most popular video games of all time. The ones Ralph hands the cherry to are from the game "Q-Bert". Also, there is a modern version of Q-Bert that you can find on Steam, and IIRC, there is a playable version of the original arcade version in it. You probably know the one telling everyone "You don't regenerate, ever" is Sonic the Hedgehog. 4:48 - More like, "They had their run and people moved on to the next Big Thing". 6:25 - As Palpatine said, "Good is a point of view." But no, you couldn't choose which character to play (in most games). Supposedly, you always played the "good" character, but I've seen people come up with alternative views on that, which can always be amusing to discover. 7:14 - Like Fix It Felix, there was a playable version made. Same with Sugar Rush, I do believe. 8:55 - Those signs were actually a thing back in the 80s. I have a few of them for when my own personal games aren't working. 11:02 - Small detail, but the "Chef" character from Burgertime is giving the homeless Q-Bert characters food can be seen in the background, as the main character from Dig Dug walks by. 14:00 - Bullying bullies... love that, myself. 14:47 - While stylized for the story, that's basically how older games became obsolete. A new game with a similar theme, or maybe even completely different but with more advanced gameplay would come in, and the older one would stop making money. Whenever we had a new game come in, it made big money for a while when it first showed up. Those machines were not cheap brand new, but easily made their cost back within a few weeks of going on location. 17:30 - Both an X-Men/Cerebro reference, and the Nintendo NES cheat code reference: (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start). Which other references did you not get? I know you had to trim the video for RU-vid, but feel free to ask. Would love to see you do "Pixels" as well. It's another video game related movie but set in "our" reality. A lot of video game nerds didn't like it, because it's "Adam Sandler", but I actually enjoyed the movie. That one also has a lot of references to classic games.

I don't think candy eating candy is automatically cannibalism. I mean, we are creature made of meat and we still eat the meat of other creatures that just have less intelligence than we have. So when intelligent creatures made from candy eat normal candy that's not intelligent, I doubt it would count. "These laffy taffy really enjoy seeing people suffer." Well, tell that to those who enjoyed watching Looney Tunes or Tom & Jerry back in the day. ;)

I'd say the problem with that movie is that they had a GREAT lesson they were trying to teach: how you shouldn't keep your friends from following their dreams or desires just because you're scared you might lose them because if you had a strong friendship beforehand, you should trust that it will continue during these new life changes with said friend. And it totally makes sense that it's something Ralph would go through since Vanellope was his first real friend. The screenwriters just needed to find a better way to execute the lesson than have Vanellope basically going Turbo with no consequences

My counselor recently told me that one of the biggest things that end up tearing relationships with others up is goal-setting. People think that if we can reach a certain goal, that all the hard stuff on the road to get there will be worth it if only we can reach point B from point A. But in reality, the issue that lies therein is that it’s a false sense of happiness without truly coming to terms about everything in the middle. That’s why many marriages fail. That’s why a lot of times a relationship is really put to the test when people decide to have children. Because of the desire to just reach the destination, the red flags are ignored during the process.

Honestly, if you want to play a game where you essentially play as Wreck-It Ralph. You should try playing Rampage. It's essentially that, but you play as people who, at the beginning of each level, turn into either a giant Ape (George), a giant bipedal iguana (Lizzie), or a giant bipedal wolf (Ralph). With later games (like my personal favorite/first one I played, Rampage: Total Destruction) having up to 15-20 characters in all.

I love all the Nintendo parodies in Sugar Rush. The theme song they even hired the Japanese girl band AKB48 to perform it even though it only shows up for a short time in the film itself at 9:57. Official music video for the theme song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SpZIP5R8XQg.html Every 'fake" game in the movie was made to kind of represent the popularity of the era. Sugar Rush was pretty equals the late 90's Cart Racer Rage. So of course it's has a lot of references to Mario Kart 64 primarily, definitely when the race starts and they do that iconic Mario Kart 64 camera panning before the camera lines up with the driver's vehicle... was so freaking cool seeing that in the film.

I'm not a gamer, and the game arcade thing came out long after I'd left grade school. What got me interested was the Hero's Journey that several of the characters had to take to come to terms with others. Ralph started out as the "Bad Guy," but that is the essence of his character. Felix is the "Good Guy," but he has no clue about how his game needs both of them. Sgt. Calhoun has an awful back story, and could use a relief from constantly battling The Bugs. Vanellope is a misfit in "Sugar Rush," but "feels the need for speed," even if the other racers diss her. When one (or more) characters leave their game, bad things happen.

I can't blame Ralph even a little for leaving his game. There was nothing for him there. Like, why should he care about maintaining the status quo for everyone else in his game when they don't care about him AT ALL? It reminds me of that saying, something like "a child who is not embraced by his village will burn it down just to feel its warmth". His village, knowing full well what could happen to them if the game breaks by losing an important character, gave him no incentive to stay in his own game. They practically uninstalled themselves on purpose. I wonder how many other games were permanently shut down because the culture of shunning the "bad guy" was more important to the rest of the characters than keeping the game running.

You don't seem to enjoy slapstick humor if you question the laughy-taffy's sense of humor. I mean in The Golden Age of Cartoons, violence were common in humor, like The Three Stooges, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Droopy, Tex Avery cartoons and Popeye. They all had violent gags such as punch people in their face, poke them in their eyes, hit them with baseball bats, knocking them with sledge hammers, their bodies break into pieces like a vase, being literally split in half (with no gore or blood), have their bodies shot with a cannon ball and have a whole in their body but don't die from it or having any serious or permanent damage, falling several hundred feet from a cliff and smash into the ground with minor damage but mostly hurt ego, getting an anvil in your head, etc.

The film does a good job of setting up its own rules, and none of them depend on any of the literal in-game references. It's kinda like the Matrix too, in that the Matrix has a lot of obsolete pop culture in it. However, the rules of how things work are clearly spelled out. One may not have ever seen an actual wired phone before, but even before the halfway point, you know their significance to the world that they virtually live in. Yup, feeding candy to candy IS candybowlism. I am a bit curious about the change in theme for your channel. I know a while back that the name was changed, though the title sequence is similar to what it was before. It has different music, though. Is there a reason you're downplaying your alter-ego?

Brought to you by Disney starring John C. Reilly as Ralph. The villain in an old arcade game who doesn't want to be a bad guy anymore. Unfortunately he's a bad guy but therefore doesn't qualify for a medal...unlike he can get one of his own. Solution? Break into another game and steal one

This is a great movie, probably a modern classic. The sequel is nowhere near as good.

Why would you watch a movie like this without knowing the references? 🤔

I (sorta) didn't know ANY of the references, but got them by looking at reactions from gamers. The Hero's Journey is what kept me watching a movie about video game characters. "Wreck-It Ralph" is a drama equal to "The Iron Giant" (1999), with a mix of characters.
