ive listened to this song more times then i can count but this is the first time ive ever seen the video that goes with it and ive avoided watching the video strictly cause the way it makes me feel just hearing it through my speakers NF's a crazy good storyteller his music you can feel all the way down to your core, his music hits me in a way that does make it hard to listen to him but at the same time his words can be comforting he has figured out a way to properly express what me and countless others feel in a way that can be understood clearly

Heroin was my drug don’t know if I’ll ever forget the feeling I miss it every day that’s just the truth.

For my father it was drinking, he died at 42 left behind four kids and my mother who was lost. I stepped up at 16 quit school took care of my family. It’s a ripple in the pond that goes on forever, I did the best I could but never really recovered I’m 59 now. And I battled childhood cancer since I was born I finally beat it and my father was gone. I had to borrow money to bury him. The story is even worse, anyone who gave me anything to help pay for the funeral collected the cards that was given to me at the wake to get their money back if there was something of value in the cards. So I never seen any white privilege it might be out there but not for me. Struggling continues to this day, but I’m good I still have my dreams it’s not over until I meet Jesus and he says it’s over! Stay strong everyone, and love your kids with everything you got.

It's a necessary song to listen to at least once in my opinion. My wife's mother is an addict and this really kinda helped me understand her feelings better. My own mother is amazing... I have no way to empathize with these feelings, but this song helps me sympathize. On a different note- As a father, it helps me keep my priorities in perspective. The most important thing I can do is make damn sure I'm there for my son now and in the future. Great reaction, I appreciate the effort and respect put into it. It's not an easy listen.

smelling an unlit Winston cigarette give me a very strong memory of my father. he always had a pack in his front pocket and every time i hugged him as a child i smelled them. i LOVE the smell of fresh tobacco but HATE the smell of lit cigarettes. i always think about stopping at the store and buying a pack of winstons just to keep around to smell when i miss my father.

This is one of the saddest songs I've heard. You hear songs about glorifying drugs or artists dealing with addiction but never about what a kid went through with an addicted parent like this one. This one hits me every time I hear it.

I dont like this song. I get he's pouring out his feelings, but I dont have to like it. I've lived both perspectives. My father died from the drugs he was addicted to. I used to think he was selfish for leaving us. But I've also been an addict, and I'm a mother of a 5year old right now. I no longer think my dad was selfish. I think he was hurting, and the only reason he held on as long as he did was because of his love for us. It's a constant struggle. Some people win and some don't. If a parent is going through this and loses, it doesn't mean that they didn't love their children, it doesn't mean that "pills were more important than the kids". They were likely thinking that the kids would be better off without them and that ending their life could be the best thing they could do for them. I understand that pain now. I'm not saying nf doesn't have the right to feel the way he does, but he can't understand what his mom was going through. I hope one day he finds a way to forgive her.

I know his pain...when I had my children I didn't have my dad for support or him to get to hold or see his Grandkids......It was a lonely process for me during my pregnancies..... I feel NF since he had his first child in Aug.....I am so glad that NF is a parent now!!!!! I know he will be a great dad! and I understand him when he said he hasn't forgive her, because I am in the same boat.

I have parents that weren't ready to be parents. They made terrible choices that are long lasting. This song is so relatable because I have terrible memories of my own childhood. NF's choices of words are so flawless that its jaw dropping. I relate to his music so well that it just blows my mind.
