When I fill up my car in Thailand I usually stand nearby the person filling up the car. After the pump clicks off they like to add more gas to bring the amount to a nice even number so they can make change more easily. But that ends up putting gas way up the filler neck and can damage the charcoal canister. In America you usually pay with a credit card so there's no incentive to put in too much gas. I really prefer the self-serve in America -- I've never seen it in Thailand..
