Heads up to everyone who will be patiently waiting for today's video: Today I will be live streaming at Q Nightclub with the CODA team. The stream starts at 3PM west coast time. I don't want to bombard everyone with notifications for videos, so the stream will be today's video.
Christian - Thanks for taking the time to go through how you approach setting up the various macros/commands. For anyone with a bit of computer programming experience, this will all make sense. If someone is interested in this, but doesn't have the computer background, I would suggest they seek out a friend who has done some programming to get them over the initial learning hump. Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work. Ben Price - San Antonio
Next video should be on how to create sequences from color presets for fixtures types and how to apply this technique to always different rigs! Seriously, really appreciated man! Keep going with this daily vlog thing, very interesting!
God, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that this video was uploaded and 21 MINS LONG! Once again, great video! (Also, theres a random min or two of black right at the end :-P)
Your videos are super useful!! I mostly operate on martin, or jands vista consoles but your thought processes on how to program really help me to build my own show files on these other consoles. busking shows has been an issue for me in the past because about half way through my even i run outta looks and start recycling looks Ive already used.
Slight issue: When I try to add a command in my macro that says for example "copy image 1 at image 4+5+6+7 /o " it will not show up in my images that it has changed. Is there a step i'm missing? The images are 25 X25 jpg files if that matters
Christian, I'm new to MA but have learned a lot thanks to your videos! So Thank you! One thing I'm trying to figure out with the show I'm working on is how to make a button that flashes our atomics when I press a button on the console. I seem to remember seeing you had something like that set up on your arena lighting video. So any advice you have on that would be amazing. Thanks again for all these videos!
Hi Christian. Love your MA videos. You are very good at explaining things in an understandable way. Just one question. What is the function on the three-colour buttons on the bottom?
Thank you for this great tutorial !! I just wonder, how do you do when you change show or venue, when you don't have the same fixtures, do you use presets that you simply update in order not to redo the thing every time ? EDIT: I found the answer below :)
Great explanation on how to do this, makes a lot of sense. Once you create this layout, what is involved in using the show file on any gig you walk into? Does it involve a lot of cloning? How do you make sure these are firing sequences for the fixture types from rig to rig?
You just clone over from your show file rig. I use Sharypys, Mac 250's and Auras, and just clone the info to the new house rig each night. Then update presets and done.
so.. I know you do a few programming instruction videos but can you do a video showing how it gets applied in Realtime? cause I have a showfile that i feel works for me. but you do way more stuff in the same amount of time. and I wanna know how to better a workflow while busking and how things are laid out.
Hi Christian, Nice tutorial, watched all videos up until now. Question, for each show you do, you have to program up front (if not in the club). But each fixture has kind of the same color but differ sometimes slightly. So for the programming up front, do you adjust your sequences per fixture type to get the right color for that sequence? Same applies probably for your positions which you showed in the 3 hour video? Cheers from Belgium!
Thank you for making this tutorial! I've been looking how I would do this. Seems like a lot of work tho, do you reprogram all of it for each gig or do you just change the sequences?
A native picker would be great. Maybe a tip for grandMA3 (wink wink)? But I'd like it to have customization options. And so you can set it up for color, gobo / beam or more
is there a specific reason you prefer to have it off executors as opposed to the programmer would it not be the same result or is it that you dont want to be able to clear out something like that ?
If you are calling sequences and not executors how are you adjusting the fade time of the sequences or are they all just bumping to the new color? I am currently using executors for mine to allow use of a rate master just wondering if I could cut the executors out of it.
Gosh... I was considering buying a ma board... But now im glad im stuck with avolites... xD I guess ill buy the Titan Arena instead of the grand ma.. It just seems theres to much to do with MA to get the same results with Avolites..
Well.. In Avolites, you just choose the colour, then "rekord" and put it on the screen. Exacly the same results, and the box will automaticly be the colour your fixture is, with no macros ect. But i dont know much about grand ma... I really want to learn more about it and i love watching your videos! I have only worked as a lightning tec for a bit over a year now. And i promise you that all i've learned (even tho im working with a Avolites Tiger Touch) is thanks to you! I get so much insperation of how to program when i see you do your shows and how you have layed out everything on the board... So a big thank you! :) Best regards from a small town in Sweden
Do you have any experience with martin M-PC ? Im a sound technician but sometimes i have to do lights in the club were i work. Its really intuitive. What do you think? Greets and keep the videos coming! :D
thank you! i'm sorry if that's a dumb question but i'm kind of new into light operating and i started it because of you! (and i'm sorry for my bad english im from germany :D)
I have a question. For example: In the layout already had one color on use and the image is filled Second I try to another color and that color image is filled. And how can I reset the first color image to be empty?
Brother, I am your loyal fan, I often just look at your published MA video, I saw your video, I learned a lot, thank you very much! Can you share your Show file for me to study your usage, i really like your Editing program as well as macros. If it can be really grateful!
Whats the advantage of this setup using macros over using (my avolites experience here) color pallettes? I am assuming MA has a similar type of feature to color pallettes?
Awesome video .. I am having some 'Pre-processing Errors come up in the Command Line For: Copy $Emptycolors At $Spotcolors /m AND $killtopcolor /m Saying VARIABLE NOT FOUND .. Not sure on what to do to fix this.
"$Emptycolors" $Spotcolors /m" and $killtopcolor /m" are variables he set. For instance $Emptycolors At $Spotcolors /m could mean he's making sure that row is empty before changing to the image he selected, the $killtopcolor would be changing the top row from "filled" to "empty" if the makes sense.
How do you define these variables? I've gotten to the point that I've got all my images loaded and sequences & macros done, but I'm struggling with overwriting colors not in use. Essentially, how do you group all these macros?
How do you define variables like the $Emptycolors & $Spotcolors? Im drawing a blank on how to set this up so i can overwrite the images that I'm not using. Essentially, how do you group all these macros?
Brandon Rose the command setvar will allow you to set variables. The help manual has a great section on it. Basically setvar $spotcolors = “image 214 thru 227”
Do you know if the color matrix is proportional to the oposite equation on each instance??...nah! Just kidding, I don't know a shit about these light programs 😒
