For some people it 100% is. If you didn't grow up in that environment you wouldn't understand. I was on a downhill spiral my whole life until I went to prison. It literally saved my life. Whilst I was there I got in the best shape of my life, got my education as I didn't finish high-school, got my driving licence, and had many other positive outcomes from prison. I also changed my ways and became a man, now my life is 100x better than it ever was before and its all because of prison, as crazy as it sounds. So No my dude, it isn't "outright ignorant", you just need to understand where it's coming from. Your comment was more ignorant for trying to discredit these guys just because you didn't understand it.

Im a Ja Rule fan and even I don't agree with what you said. Get Rich... is probably one of the most complete hip hop album made. Right from lyrics to spitting bars, beats, song lists.. everything. I don't think anybody else other than 50 would have done justice to "In Da Club" beats more than him. Remember, that beat was first given to several Interscope artists including Em & D12 but they didn't feel much and passed on. Every song in that album was a banger... wanksta, Patiently waiting, many men, what up gangsta, pimp.. it was perfect. The only album I think Ja could compete was "Rule 3:36" That album was the ultimate blend of Ja's melody and gritty rap style.

I remember when both dropped. Get Rich or Die Trying first single was Wanksta,, had an underground vibe. After In the Club, it became a COMPLETE mainstream album. Pure hip hop is underground at its core, and I always felt like GRODT was really more for the mainstream,, how it was put together with production and features. Which is cool.. get your bag… but I can’t put it in the same world as Illmatic,, which is still more of an underground album, even though we all know it’s a classic. Ironically, my favorite 50 album is The Kanan Mixtape ,, record not meant for the mainstream.
