Emily if you’re reading this please tell Scott that you just saw this hilarious comment that was also really supportive and insightful. And if he asks you to read it just tell him that he wouldn’t understand it
This comment originally discussed a ‘Harvest’; but, was taken out so as not to make Scott feel ‘Blue’. Great to see content creators support others. Looking forward to Scott finding a balance, as his content is awesome.
As a therapist and a creator, I really respect the way that you address your audience. It is very personal and vulnerable, but also has great content and clearly explains what you are trying to get across, whether it is a personal story or something made personal because of how you enjoy and interpret it.
I appreciate that you're so willing to be vulnerable with your fans. The transparency you've given in many of your videos has helped me to examine myself and my own approach to my creativity and it means a lot to me. I still go back to your Thor video because it struck such a personal chord with me, as did the Whisper of the Heart video. Thank you for being so genuine.
Every nerdsync era was a great nerdsync era. Been here for about 7 years. Honestly just appreciated someone who enjoyed learning more through pop culture and doing research for eye opening takes. Learning is a joy, even more so when done together, and youve always inspired me to learn more
As one of those decade long viewers, Scott, I want to thank you so much for helping me through one of my most lonely times in my life. I was working the midnight shift at a Walmart. I was asleep during the day, I was isolated from everyone around me. But I archive binged your first few years of content and your podcasts as I worked, and it kept me going. As you started to make more in depth and well produced videos, I decided to better myself too. I quit that isolating job and eventually managed to find one that fits me much better. I'm here for all your videos, and I'm just glad to have had your voice and insights in my life. P.S. I've been saying Whisper of the Heart was the best Ghibli movie for YEARS and I'm glad you agree, I was so excited to see that video come out!
I found you during the whole Gamergate / Anti-SJW fiasco and you were a breath of fresh air during the time where all of my favorite creators at the time were draging their fans to the right. I always found you relatable and funny. Whatever you need to do, do it. I'll be here for ya, NerdSync.
Been loving the past few videos. Sorry for the struggle lately, making anything creatively has been more and more draining lately. It always sucks to not have a good way to articulate and deal with feeling around something fulfilling. Though seeing your effort in videos and discussion helps me get the energy to stay creative.
I've been a subscriber since the silver age. Your videos are always a comfort watch to me. Whenever I have a bad day, there's always the option to go back and watch a couple'a nerdsyncs. I look forward to watching all of the videos you're working on. 😁
I had watched a handful of your videos when I was in 8th grade (almost 7 years ago!) but your video about switching the names of the Scooby Doo movies was how I rediscovered your channel when I was older. Your dedication and willingness to be vulnerable have really resonated with me as a person and artist. Whatever direction you decide, I think it'll be for the best because you chose it
Hey Scott, just want to say that your content has been massively helpful to me in terms of providing me something to help with my anxiety regardless of what it is, and I'm so happy you're learning and growing. If you release more videos, I'll be there watching, and I hope it works well for you!! And, regarding your recent development you posted about, I will say, you have the most "I'm just a lil agender guy" energy of anyone I've ever seen. 10/10 good agender vibes.
Thanks for this, Scott. I write professionally part-time. I used to put tons of work into each article, and I had some that went viral, but I’ve begun writing two articles a month for a fairly successful publication (one on literature and one on comics), but I sometimes feel like I wish my work made more of an impact, whatever that means. At the same time, I realize I’ve been getting better as a writer, and that’s worthwhile on its own. Love you, brother.
For what it's worth, I see a lot of youtubers sticking to the upload schedule you're describing- taking their time to make bigger, more researched and produced videos, while uploading small, less labour-intensive stuff in-between, and it seems to be working out for them. It's great as a viewer, cause we get a lot of content, and I imagine it's a little less anxiety inducing for the creator. As an artist online, I can relate to the feeling of anxiety when you go a little too long between uploads, it makes you scrutinise your work even more. Putting something out, even if it's just a sketch, makes me feel better. Also makes me less rigid in what I draw and how I do it. Feel free to experiment with your content, we're here for the ride!
I've been here since 2014, and I have no intention of leaving. You're one of my favorite youtubers and I look forward to where you go from here, and you have my full support. Also, it's been interesting watching you grow and learn more about yourself and finding you become more and more relatable over time (getting diagnosed with ADHD, discovering that you're one of the Fun Genders, ect, which are also journeys I've gone on in my own life) Also, you may well be onto something. There's a story about a pottery class where the teacher split it into two groups. One group was to spend the next month making the best pot possible, and the other was to crank out as many as they could. By the end, the students who were cranking them out had better pots, because they learned more as they practiced. This is just a story and who knows if it's right for you.
Scott I've been watching your videos since 2014 (I was 12 at the time). I'm 20 now, and you have have literally changed my life. You showed me that it's not only okay, but COOL to have weird niche interests that no one else knows about. Just because people don't understand why you love what you love doesn't mean that you are any less valid. You showed me the importance of growing and learning as a person and being proud of the progress that you've made. Thank you for being a huge inspiration for me, both a child and now as an adult. Please continue making the content you want to make, whatever that looks like, because your charm, brilliance, wacky sense of humor, and ability to tell the most amazing stories about the most niche subjects are going to always keep me coming back!! You're doing awesome❤️
This is really cool. I think a neat analogy are artist sketchbooks. A lot of people love to buy artist sketchbooks, even ones that are full of incomplete or rushed drawings, because sometimes it isn't about how good the final piece is, but what people can see that the artist put into it.
I've loved all Nerd Sync all these years. And I think this is a great idea. Your videos have always been a treat, but I also want you to be happy. Thank you for being you
This is one of the best descriptions of creating art (yt videos count!) i've heard in a while. I got back into making comics in 2021 and the perfectionism creep is so real. Tried to force myself to bang out something short and schlocky so I could hide behind it being "intentionally bad", but became super attached to the project. Started overthinking it and getting stressed. Gave myself limitations so I couldn't overwork things... the end result actually looks and feels better, lol. It turned out I just wanted to enjoy the process again. Sometimes ya just gotta keep making stuff to avoid stagnation and anxiety. You're doing great, happy to have found this channel :)
10 years! Well done. The idea of going back to basics and using the skills you've developed in the last 10 years to spit out art without excessive effort is fantastic. Can't wait to see what comes of it.
i know that wasn't easy to say, but i really appreciate that you took the time to say it. i think with how small the Scooby-Doo community is it's really easy for it to become so insular that we didn't realize how inappropriate it was to take out our frustrations on poor Scrappy, a mere puppy who only ever used his power to try to help.
I love the idea that Emily is just living her best life until Scott yells hot takes at her like “chicken doesn’t tastes good enough to be the baseline flavor everyone compares all other foods too” also I love you nerds and I’m here for whatever content makes you happy to make
I think this is amazing! Every creative person should try it. Sometimes we get lost in the "I want to improve" mentality that we forget even the smallest steps are still steps forward. Can't wait to see your shorter simpler videos, Scott 💕
I love all of your videos. Not only because they are smart, funny, and informative, but because you always exhibit such raw self awareness and understanding of your viewers.
I came here for the context, I say for who you are as a person, and the perspective you provide to the topics you cover. You are such a genuine person, who has been vocal about your mental health struggles. As someone who struggles with anxiety and other troubles. I appreciate seeing someone like yourselves not backing away from **ALL** aspects of Scott. Including the parts we're told to be ashamed of.
As an artist myself I really vibe with what OSP says about their production schedule. You get it 80% perfect and then you're done. It keeps your workflow going and even motivates you to improve on each and every project bc you didn't linger on it for so long
Honestly one of the reasons I love It’s Probably Not Aliens is that both you and Tristan seem like you are having fun (aside from the Tristan makes everyone sad TM moments of course). My favorite art is always the art made with fun and love. I’ll be happy to stick around for what ever is you make. After all I’ve been around since the Bronze Age. Also hi Emily! Hope you’re having an awesome day.
Scott, it's your channel. Do what you feel is best for you & your channel. The rest of us are here to enjoy the videos and put a big old like on them. Just be happy you still want to put out content for your channel, no matter how short or long it takes between videos 👍
I'm a relatively new subscriber, and I can't afford to be a Patreon supporter but I am always delighted when you upload. You provide so much fun and insight at no cost to us but taking the time to watch. I hope you take all the care and time you need to keep doing great work and to enjoy the process of creating. And most of all take care of yourself!
You always have the most thoughtful and heartfelt takes on the platform...ABOUT the platform. I love the usual " Did Scooby-Doo Kiss Spider-Man??" videos, but there is something very special about the videos that pause, sit down, and take a look at what you've been doing, what you've been feeling, and what it's like to do this as a profession. Feels like the equivalent of "reading between the panels" but for RU-vid. Been a fan for years and I've enjoyed every era of yours; please just go at whatever pace you find comfortable/manageable. Thanks for all videos!
Been subscribed for almost 9 years. Although in the middle I kinda forgot about your channel, since a couple of years ago I found myself back here again. Keep going Scott! All the best. Also, Hi Emily!
You make a video titled "I don't think I'm happy" and the sponsor *isn't* Better Help? What are you even doing??? Wishing you the best of luck with the new upload schedule. Worth noting that while I jumped ahead to watch this one based on the title, I currently have a 6-ish month backlog of videos that I'm working my way through, and I assume at least a few other fans have similar situations. I'm looking forward to your more recent videos, but it'll take me a while to get to them. It's tough knowing so many great creators! Also, I hope you reached out to Mildred of Thought Slime, considering they basically made the opposite change some months back. Might be worth seeing how they've dealt with the change, and hopefully you can both end up in a better place for it. Best of luck!!!
Making art is a constant journey of self discovery and self expression. I have found all of your videos I have seen so far great for me and I have begun watching every video you’ve posted in reverse sequential order. I think we often lose sight of what we create things for. I hope you continue to have fun making what you want, and would like to let you know that I enjoy what you create. Take care of yourself and thank you.
SCOTT! Please take your time and do what makes you happy. If you feel like a long form video, I love all of them. If you want a quick short form video, make it, do your thing. We Love you and Can’t Wait to see your next era.
I remember reading a story about an art class that was split into two groups. The first group was told to make one really great pot with the time they had, while the second group was told to make as many pots as they could. The result was that the prolific group made better pots than the one-pot group. They also made some bad pots along the way, but by making lots of pots they improved their skills faster and made better things without hyperfocusing one one single precious pot. The act of making was more fun for them and the results were better, and a few misshapen pots along the way didn’t really matter. This… seems relevant. Anyway, I wish you more peace and happiness. Thank you for sharing with us. Take care, Scott.
I forgot about your Poop Emoji Hair Cut! Been with you for a while and enjoy your content. It’s easy to see your luv for each of your vids no matter the type. Your mental health is paramount! I have great trust in the universe, that you will find the right balance, wherever it lay. And we will all benefit.
I wrote an entire paper my junior year of high school based on your video about the ages of comic books that tied comic books into American history. That said I VERY much enjoyed your references to the ages of comic books in this video. But on a more serious note, I grew up watching your videos and your journey of discovering yourself has caused me to look much further inward than I could have gone myself - as well as given me a deeper knowledge of and respect for the medium of comics. In short, thank you for sharing yourself so freely, and I hope this new format helps you in the way you need it! Always rooting for you!
First video of yours I watched was the one about the Scooby-Doo movies being in the wrong order. I then proceeded to binge-watch a lot of your Scooby vids with my younger siblings, and I absolutely love them. But every now and then, you put out something like the Whisper of the Heart video…and while it’s not something that has the same “entertain a house full of teens and one tween who struggle to agree on what to watch” capability, I always watch them myself and feel very emotionally touched. Whatever content gets made going forward, I’m always excited to see a new upload from you.
My experience is with making webcomics. And that setting of a deadline for a post is so good to new artists. They learn what corners can be cut, and where they're efforts are best used. It's hard to meet their committed schedule, but they learn so much in those first 100 strips. I love watching the improvement that rapid iteration does for their art. I think I've been watching for 6 years? But on looking back at your listings, I see a lot that I don't remember. So I need to go on a binge, I guess. I do appreciate your ad bits.
This channel’s growth (format, presentation and openness wise) is incredible. No other way of putting it. Been a subscriber since 2017 (or 2016, can’t quite remember).
Hey Scotty buddy. My name is Rasmus I'm a sad boy/man artist living in Los Angeles and i had just had a long conversation with my neighbor about this subject and how we value/price ourselves in the marketplace before I watched your video. I'm super grateful you are having this conversation with yourself and us. I appreciate your art, your heart and you as a person..Thank you let's be friends.
I don't think I've commented on any of your videos yet, but I wanted to mention this. You might sometimes think that you're just the "Scooby-Doo guy" to a lot of your audience, but I follow you for more than that. You've mentioned being bisexual but mostly straight-presenting before, and how that seemed to contrast in your mind before, and that really spoke to me personally. It really inspired me to be more out about being pan, since I felt odd about it before given that I seem so hetero to most people. So thank you.
I found your channel in the summer of 2018. At the time I had a really bad throatache. What I mean by that is that for a month I could barely sleep because every swallow was so painful it would make me wake up. And during that time I remember continiously watching your videos since they were fun and easy enough for my weakened brain to follow. So yeah sometimes simple stuff can really be very helpful. Thanks for helping me to go through some really difficult time my friend. Hope you feel better soon
I've been around as a subscriber since 2014.Tbh, your content was able to help keep me around as I was young and dealing with my sister's cancer treatment, so, I'm genuinely thankful for your channel
I came for the comic book history; I stayed for the Scott content. I don't think if I didn't genuinely enjoy watching any of the content you made that I would have stuck around, and I'm pretty sure I joined your channel in the bronze age. You're work isn't just informative and insightful, it's fun to watch. So to me, unless it's something I'm just super not into, like gore horror movies or something, I'll watch it if you make it. I'm not even that huge of a Scooby fan; barely, if that. But I love your Scooby content because you make it enjoyable and fun. Also, just so you know, you are the Internet's Best Cinnamon Roll. ^_^ Keep being awesome.
The best piece of advice I have ever heard about trying to be an artist professionally is to have a project that you deeply care for and want to put all the fine details in, but also have a few smaller projects that are fun or easy that are likely to engage well. I can feel better about taking 30 hours to make a piece that I love but doesn’t sell much because I also made some smaller pieces that took me like three hours tops but people are going to buy in troves. Idk how applicable that is to your situation but regardless I’m sure I will find your upcoming work that you are pushing out faster fun and enjoyable and I will also be looking forward to the more in depth pieces as well. Take care of yourself Scott and thank you Emily for scouring the comments XD
been here since the silver age, now i feel real old as for your old stuff it has real love and charm to them all and its been great seeing you grow, brake, brake some more, pull yourself together and fix it and then start again and still waiting to see more of your box of jimmy's just keep up the good/ok/whatever it is work
This video made me realize that it has been close to a decade since I started watching NerdSync! I'm turning 20 next month lol, so as someone who watched those videos, that you feel like stopped short of saying anything of substance, at a young age they certainly meant something to me. They were my comfort videos for a long time, the format was probably creatively limiting to you, but sometimes it just feels nice to know exactly what you're gonna get from something especially when it's about something you love (comics!) with a host who seems warm and friendly. I hope I can always support your work, keep being creative
I found you while I was working during college, I listened to the Nerdsync podcast. One of my favorite videos of yours is the Thor video about being vulnerable, it’s made me realize that I put so much pressure on myself because I’ve made the joke of I’m going to be the richest one in the family too. Like how human you are and how you talk. So please keep doing you. Do things that make you happy. Thank you.
I'm just vibing with your content, dude. I enjoy what you make, short and long format. What RU-vid wants from content creators, and what creators want to create, will never align, and finding a way to have it both ways is a very hard balancing act. I'm glad you're taking care of yourself and I'm happy for you!
I'm a visual artist and I completely relate to the idea of only making big detailed complex pieces feeling both creatively fulling and also putting a ton of pressure on each piece to be worth all the time put into it. 😅 Combining the big creative challenges with a lot of small, lower effort, lower pressure, artwork is a really great strategy to try out!
this is totally something I struggle with too. Being okay with the fact that something you make isn't going to be perfect is *so hard* but it's the biggest obstacle to get over to if you want to make *something*
My dad used to go to great lengths to make home cooked food from scratch. Eggrolls, sauces, eggplant parmesan, you name it. A lot of the time, they were really hit or miss with the rest of the family. Then, one day, he was pressed for time and couldn't prepare the dish he wanted. So instead he slapped something together in 15 minutes on a skillet. Predictably, we all lost our minds at how good the food was. So if it is any consolation, you're not alone in your quandary. Take your time, treat yourself well, we got you.
A video a week feels like an Absolute gift, because you truly make my life more exciting and you impact me as a creator as well. I love It's (probably not) Aliens and that content has kept me going for weeks Because I'm late to the podcast game A medium level effort Scott creation sounds like a wonderful experience and I will still be super stoked to have more of you doing what you love in my life.
I remember staying up untill the early hours of the morning watching the premire of your video about the politics behind comic books on a school night. It was a special experience. Do what makes you happy, we only want the best for you king!
I watched old school “bad art” Nerdsync A LOT in high school. Then I fell off, and I returned when you did your Ditko deep dive. Been here since! I was one of the few who watched your Whisper of the Heart video before the Velma one came out. For what it’s worth, I as a viewer enjoyed both videos a lot! So just do what feels right for you ❤
I’ve recently gotten back into comics it’s been countless years since i’ve been really passionate about them or interested. This channel pop into my head! To put in perspective I watched this channel in Elementary through middle school. I’ve now just graduated and i just wanna say thank you for that! Im interested in seeing new things this channel makes.
Dear Scott, I haven't been watching your channel for very long. In fact I started with your Velma episode, but when I saw that you covered Whisper of the Heart, I immediately knew that this was going to quickly become one of my favorite channels. And I was right, in fact I actually swapped over to watching your videos primarily on Nebula so that I could see all of your shenanigans. I hope the video a week helps your mental health. I personally know how endless and thick that mud of depression and self doubt are, as an artist myself. I love your work and can't wait to see more in the future.
That's tough and personally, I really like lengthy video essays but also I think that the most fulfilling thing in a video in general is seeing the heart and passion that's been put into it no matter the length and quality. I have no idea if this comment is helpful or if it makes sense but I'll just leave it here. I appreciate your videos and all I wanna say is keep going forward =). Good luck!
7:59 no lie, thanks to your bird clock, I bought one as a gift for my mom for Christmas. She loves it. Thanks for introducing a cool item as a silly background gag in the videos.
Scott. For what it's worth on that subject of the negative snowball effect and the wait times, I always enjoy a Nerdsync vid showing up on my subscriptions feed and it's 99% of the time the first vid I'll watch. Regardless of how long it's been. I'm welcoming any changes you're planning on bringing that'll help you.
I love woodworking and making things and really feel this. I've made some absolutely incredible things that I am proud of and my friends and family always ask about. But sometimes they take months. And it's a drag. But then Ill rip something out on a bandsaw, some little trinket, and clean up in a day and god damn do I walk away smiling and giddy because at the end of the day I realized yes I like being proud of my work but the REASON it became my work in the first place was because I like to make things and that is what ultimately makes me happy.
Adapting with the times is really difficult for so many reasons like those RU-vid execs relying too much with their bots to manage the platform is making it harder for content creators, videos flagged by those who wants the money that these earned, and several subscribers never received notifications of a newly released videos. It's a good thing that Emily is at your side along the way, Scott. Everyone need all the support they could get.
I think I joined the channel during the silver age of nerdsync. My guy just do what you want to do. You stay with the long form highly produced videos sprinkling short mini videos in between the wait times about whatever interests you. Best of both worlds. Or you follow trends making vids on whatever is popular, Go back to the comics with scooby doo thrown in, make a movie or mini series, etc. Whatever floats your boat. You've been on RU-vid for so long yknow how things work, you can do this! You got your fans and a lovely partner supporting you. 😊
I'd say I'm a late golden age, early silver age fan. Happy to still be around and loving the range and growth in your videos. Have always related to your honest nature and being so open with your audience, and how honestly hard it is to deal with social stresses of putting yourself out there. Love the wide variety of nerdy topics you go over, and can't wait to see where you go. Don't hold back on your nerd-dom's, I love seeing you be truly passionate on topics I didn't expect to be invested in. Looking forward to seeing where you go and showing how much we appreciate your content as we follow the journey.
I like the comics videos and the scooby doo videos! Tbh, with nerdy video essays being my favorite genre of youtube video, and with your style and quality as high as they are, this is definitely one of those channels where I'd click on any new upload I see, because I just know it will be good.
I've been here since the beginning! You were one of the people who got me interested in comics actually. Best of luck to you and keep up the great work, whatever changes you make however many times I'll be here to watch!
I just thought I'd say, I enjoyed both videos, obviously the Whisper of the Heart one a lot more, I loved it, but it was also good seeing you talk about and pick apart Velma too. I think the idea of regular simple videos along with the occasional big project sounds great. Take your time and let yourself breathe. It makes regular and easily digestible and enjoyable content for us along with big videos where you can really pour your heart in when it's worth it to you. The best of both worlds. Anyways, take care, looking forward to the future!
As i started doing video clips on my favourite vtuber I've started to understand exactly how you feel about your artwork not doing well and yet the ones you don't put any effort into do well. Video editing is crazy and why do we do it? Idk scott. You know my favourite video of yours was the thanos video because the tension you had throughout really put down the gravitas snapping away 50% of the universe. Stuff like that is why you are still my favourite comic based youtuber.
I’m relatively new to your content, I found you during Covid heights. But you are the only channel I have the notification bell on because I look forward to your videos no matter the topic. You’re very insightful about everything you talk about and just very honest to your audience. More channels should be like yours.
You're one of my all time favourite RU-vidrs, been watching for I believe about seven years now, so i can say honestly I am very much looking forward to watching any and all content you put out
