I have used this lens for everything. Street, food photography, portraits even landscape. It is magical. I love it. Although i sometimes think of selling it for something with extra reach i cannot get myself to do it. The look from such a good prime will always be better to any zoom i think.

I’ve had this lens since 2015 and I love it! It can magnify quite a bit, so I can use it for some small subjects too. Also, people who are considering this lens but don’t want to pay as much and don’t want a zoom, should try the Viltrox 75mm 1.2. It’s very good.

This lens makes you think outside the box. When you think about it, it's one of Fuji's most balanced lenses, because it's small, light, fast and optically brilliant. If they made it too fast, it would become too heavy. Also this focal length suits me so much more than 56 mm...

I’ve had this one for 6 months and I’ve been on the fence about keeping it, so you’re not making it easy here haha. I love the focal length and images it produces, but the combination of the weight, size, and higher shutter speed it requires on a non-ibis camera always has me think twice about grabbing it when I leave the house. Still, it is wonderful when I do bring it. Loved your take and the images you shared as always. Thanks!

I’m using the 80 mm f2.8 (macro) witch is also stunning in detail and beautiful bokeh. It has a stabilizer in it. I’m using it for portrait and street telephoto shoots. The extra is the macro focusing. I’m using it also for concert photography on manual on my XT-4 and it never let me down.

Love this lens! It's not just the sharpness, as good as it may be, it has some character touch. The 50 f/2 is clinical sharp but like in a laboratory. The 90... as you said it, it's a luxury if "for just in case"! Please bring us Japan in the 90's!

Nice photos indeed. I love the 90 , also the 50 to 140 but I have to say that the 80 macro is no slouch either despite the slower max aperture. In fact I'd say that it offers even greater image quality and also optical stabilization. It takes teleconvertors as well so with only a lens and two tc you have three focal lengths with great image quality ( and also macro capability if needed).

My brother has this lens. It's one of the main reasons I visit him. Sublime. The "cropability" of a lens is so underrated and the 90 is right up there with the xf60 in terms of of far you can crop in and maintain image quality.

I took the 16, 35 and 90 to Japan years ago. Most of my shots were on the 16 with the 35 and 90 being really intentional usage only. I definitely struggle with telephoto lenses for general travel photography. Whenever I took it out I would regret missing all the wide shots.

I’ve used the 90 F2 as one of my staples in hiking or street, and agree that it’s so much better than carrying a heavier longer focal lens. I have found it a bit slow to focus at times, so pre-focusing your subject is a good method and an even better one is to use the limit focus at 6.5 feet to infinity, as it seems to help the speed. I have recently started using my old 56, 1.2 as the focusing speed is much better with the XT5. I also use the limit focus at 6.5 to Infinity and this speeds it up quite a bit. There’s not so much hunting going on. I seem to be using the 56 a lot more than the 90 of late. Could be it used to sit on my shelf for years without touching it, because of the auto focus was so slow.

The 90 is a really special lens. After some persistence and patient shopping, I bought mine used, in like-new condition for under $500 US. I even drove over an hour to meet the seller in person and try it out first. I use it with an X-T3. It's always in my bag. It is soooo good. It happens to be my longest Fuji lens right now so I use it for sports and it does a great job. But, I also take it on hikes and everywhere in between. I wish they had made it compatible with the 1.4X teleconverter. I wouldn't even be thinking about a longer lens then. Beautiful footage and images in this video. Thanks for your thoughts!!

I was choosing between Viltrox 75mm 1.2. and Fujifilm 90mm f2. I took Viltrox because of the cost, curiosity, and slightly smaller focal length. The glass is very high quality and at the same time very heavy. 1.300 kg weighs X-T5 and Viltrox 75mm 1.2.

Love your video. I started into Fujifilm system past 2 months with X-T5 and already acquired few prime lenses (16mm f2.8, 23mm f2, 33mm f1.4). Looking for prime in telephoto range. Thinking of 50mm f2 but after watching this it gets me thinking to have 90mm f2 instead. What do you think? Which is better. I’m not into tele that much. Mostly I shoot wide. My interest Is in landscape & street.

For those that would want a similar angle of view but can't pay Fuji 90f2 prices : the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 is a very good alternative. You'll have to deal with a little more CA (some purple fringing that is easily fixable), but it is about as sharp, focuses quickly and is about 250€ used

Some of my favourite travel photos are with the 90. Compression and opportunity for candids, details (good minimum focus) and rendering is sublime. But as I travel with one camera I found this lens led to lots more lens changes as 90 is often too long. In the end I found I was carrying out around but not using it. Switched to the 50-140, which I think delivers more for travel - much better than the 70-300, as you easily stick with 50. But in a sea of smartphones, I found I was getting quite self conscious and more and more attention. Tricky to juggle a lens change also. 18+33+90 would be superb where IQ is most important. 18 and 90 tender very similarly I find. Have meanwhile picked up a Viltrox 75, but it's just not as good as the 90 in many ways. A fun character lens to pair with s 23, but heavy on the wrists and not fit for travel. Not sure between the 50-140 and 90, I really recommend getting both the 70-300 for flexibility and 90 for IQ and performing.

I’ve been thinking of getting a used copy of this lens, but for around the same money, I could get a new Viltrox 75mm f1.2 Pro. The advantage I see with the Viltrox is it’s a little faster and not as long. However I hear nothing but good things about the 90mm. For context I have a X-T5 and I’m a hobbyist and I typically buy used lenses unless there’s a good deal to be had.

I shoot spoken word and storytelling events in a relatively intimate location and found that the Fuji 56 mm did not give me the reach I needed. Lighting at these events is, well, horrible, and the 55-200 on my XT-5 was a nonstarter. Unfortunately, the Fuji 900 was a bit rich for me, so I went with a Viltron 85mm f/1.8, which I purchased used, and could not be more pleased with the results. I am honestly thinking of traveling with the 23, 56, and 85 mm from now on.

Unfortunately, on RU-vid on my 2K monitor, those photos don't look any sharper than my 50-230 FC lens. It would be nice to see them elsewhere, but probably even Flickr would degrade them too much. One thing I do like about the lens is the apparently excellent compression. It's not just "fly on the wall", it's "fly on top of the city wall", with every layer stacked just behind the previous one. But lenses this long and heavy don't suit me, so I'll be looking at the 17-70mm f/2.8. Thanks for an interesting video, anyway.
