The fact that you realized belatedly that you got the wrong tea, and I am saying this with love, is such a fucking funny move and served as amazing narrative foreshadowing to the chaos to come

the moment you took damage from a single sip of coca-cola i knew this would end in misery

I loved OK when it was out and drank a lot of it. Something to consider is the color - poured in a glass it was kind of a orange-ish gold color. Not dark like Coke or Dr Pepper. I don't get the Dr Pepper at all, OK was nothing like that. And certainly no tea. I would have gone with equal parts Coke, Orange soda and Ginger Ale. Maybe even 20% Coke and equal parts of the other two.

I was pretty dang young when OK soda was a thing, but I drank it whenever I scored a can. It ALWAYS was different and I was always under the impression that it was just the last bits of all the sodas mixed together at the factory, and each batch was supposed to be slightly different. It didn't stick around long enough for me to compare 'batches' though so that might have just been a school yard rumor. Whenever I get cola from one of those '100 flavor soda' machines, you know the ones, that always reminds me of OK Soda. Just cola with a bit tube residual of everything else.

OMG I'M IN THE VIDEO 😍 I'm delighted and more than a little bit vindicated at your shared dedication to the soda I've been special-interest-fixated on for decades. Your experiment also reminded me, OK Soda was a dark reddish color mixed with the cola color, which was part of my assessment that led to the hibiscus tea hypothesis. I'm so sorry I gave you absolutely no guidance on quantities, though! So in case anyone else (not you Jules you're an angel and we're lucky to have you, you're off the hook) wants to try my recipe, steep multiple Red Zinger bags or a handful of hibiscus flowers in half a mug of boiling water, then strain and let it cool. It should be a very deep red color. Put like half of that into a cup with some ice (so 1/4 of a mug/cup at most of the cold tea) and the rest should be Dr. Pepper. I take no responsibility for anyone actually drinking this, I'm just sharing what I came up with in desperation when OK Soda disappeared.

not a marketing flop- but something i think you might find interesting.. the history of the Pepsi logo? i found out about this disaster via a Lemon Demon song ("Redesign Your Logo") and upon researching it have been baffled ever since. there's an entire, like, Pepi Bible explaining the physics and logic behind the logo.. im convinced that these designers were getting paid so much that they started making shit up on the spot. like, "oh you're gonna pay me a million dollars for my pepsi logo design? UM UH-- here's a UHHH demonstration of geomagnetism in the logo and how the colours of the logo will induce UHHH an emotional response in the viewer"

I don't think OK Soda ever made it to Europe but on the off chance there is someone who tried in who now lives in Europe or something similar can they verify whether Mezzo Mix is a good replacement because orange flavouring seems to be a common theme and Mezzo Mix is literally made by coca cola and has orange flavouring???

I had OK a few times during its brief lifespan and I can absolutely confirm that it tastes like a coke/orange/dr.pepper mix. When I was in middle school my friends and I would mix fountain drinks to make something we called ‘Quintabla’ for some reason, and that was the thing that OK reminded me of most. If you’re looking for other expensive commercial flops, there always Crystal Clear Pepsi and McD’s $300 million flop, the Arch Deluxe.

I wonder how different this experiment would've gone if you'd been using soda w/o corn syrup in it. bc like... in Sweden, since it's illegal to put corn syrup in the stuff we make, we don't have to chew our sodas.
