Carrie Hope Fletcher is magnificent. She has dedicated a significant portion of her career and her life to Les Miserables and the result is she is the greatest Eponine ever. She has now undertaken the role of Fantine and I have no doubt that if there is a thirty fifth anniversary concert she will be invited as Fantine to sing (with other great Les Miserables actresses) an arrangement of I Dreamed A Dream/On My Own.
Sorry but, I have to disagree with you on the best Eponine. Frances Ruffelle originated the role on Broadway and no one will ever touch her as Eponine. She later also moved on to star as Fantine but, will always be remembered for her turn as Eponine. Check out the 10th Anniversary Concert to see what I'm talking about. Her voice and performance was magic.
For people looking for Lea Salonga (especially to Filipinos who might not understand what is being celebrated here, since we don't have theaters playing the same musical almost everyday for many years which is the case of Les Mis in London), here's an explanation why she's not here: This was for the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Les Miserables musical performing in London (it means since 1985-2015, there is always a theater in London that is always showing a Les Miserables theater performance). The singers they got are from the original 1985 London Cast (original Eponine Frances Ruffelle and original Fantine Patti Lupone) and the then 30th anniversary cast (those who happened to play Frances's role of Eponine and Patti's role of Fantine in the 2015 cast which are Carrie Hope Fletcher and Rachelle Anne Go). Carrie and Rachel during the year 2015-2016, were performing the roles of Eponine and Fantine regularly in London, they were in part of the Les Miserables theater cast of London when the 30th anniversary happened, so they got to sing with original cast members Frances and Patti. Lea isn't part of either cast, that's why she's not here. Big celebrations like the 10th and 25th anniversary (both had concerts and the whole musical concerts recorded on video) had some people that aren't part of the original casts or the then 1995 or 2010 current casts (though all of them did Les Mis in the past years) being invited to perform for those concerts that's why Lea was in those concerts (she performed as Eponine in early 1990s London as well as Fantine in 2000s Broadway/New York). I love Lea as Fantine and I like her Eponine too but there's a reason she's not here. The original 1985 cast often gives special performances at Les Mis anniversaries in the theater where Les Mis performs except when there's a big concert happening (10th and 25th annivesary). You can search in youtube the 20th anniversary and 21st anniversary (this was special since this was the time Les Mis took over from Cats as the longest running musical in London) where the original London cast performed with the people who were part of the Les Mis cast when the anniversaries happened.
I just really love this I Dreamed a Dream/On My Own rendition combination. I hated that they deleted Cosette's solo song during the 1980s. If it wasn't, they could have found a way to insert her song along with I Dreamed a Dream/On My Own so she can sing with Fantine/Eponine. Would have been nice to see Rebecca Caine and the Cosette of this cast singing with Frances Ruffelle, Patti Lupone, Carrie Hope Fletcher, and Rachelle Anne Go.
There's a gent in the audience who on numerous occasions has his jaw drop open. We are all that guy. This is just the best video and celebration and way to honour those that came before.
When Rachelle joined Search for the star her voice is so Big, she can also sing rock songs, RNB, Classical. Her voice here is so sweet, I don't know how she do that. Not all singers can suit their voice to whatever genre they are singing.
Epic beyond the definition of the word. What a gift to have lived in a time when this brilliant musical was created and when the OGs can still bring the same power and emotion 30+ years later. I am also warmed by how respectful and loving Frances Ruffelle is to all of them. Her face when Patti sings as all four come together and her almost mother-like pride for Fletcher are just beautiful. No attempts at upstaging. Just being in the moment. Rachelle Ann Go, unfortunately, made a bad judgement throwing in that unnecessary riff. I swear I see a slight look of contempt across Patti's face when Go throws that in.😂 And the gall to do it on stage in front of the creators... but, I digress. (I am fully aware that many of Patti's recordings or performances of "I Dreamed a Dream" have been riddled with bad choices.) Regardless, these four sound amazing and what a chill-inducing moment of passing the torch it was indeed.
I'm not sure, but I think this mash up was first done by Rachelle Ann Go and Lea Salonga in Do You Hear The People Sing benefit concert in Manila, Philippines in January (29th and 30th) of 2014.
For those who don't know, Patti LuPone plays Yellow Diamond on Steven Universe. Can you imagine Patti Lupone, Lisa Hannigan (Blue Diamond), Christine Ebersole (White Diamond), and Susan Egan (Pink Diamond) (or Sarah Stiles (Spinel)) singing that?
all of you talking about how beautiful their voices are. Me: pauses the video everytime rachelle's husband is being captured on the camera 1:42 1:48 2:30
