Good morning! For anyone interested in owning this drawing, Batman is available here! www.ssavaart.com/product-page/michael-keaton-as-batman-original-pencil-sketch
Animator here: I love blackwing pencils and many other animators love them too BECAUSE the graphite doesn't stick to the page, makes it easier to erase and re animate
not these specifically, but my mom got me some pencils with a rectangle eraser like that at the end of it and it's awesome lmao it's not that big of a difference, but it definitely makes one feel cooler while drawing or writing, and i've gotten a lot of classmates, friends and even teachers tell me that that is so cool so, 100% would recommend getting a pencil with a rectangle eraser
It looks like it gives you a ton of control while being very easy to handle. Even saves the manufacturer a few extra cents per 1000 pencil I bet. All in all a good thing.
Because of how long they are, and the fact they are Ment to be replaceable individually you can even boost the eraser up (I use scrap Papiers folded) to get the most out of erasers!
@@ssavaart As someone else that's left handed, it's a lot worse for writing words from left to right, as I drag the side of my palm across my own writing and then it becomes a smear.
Most of my drawings are with graphite, and I can confirm, it gets everywhere. On my hands, arms, face, and desk. But I love sketching, and I won't stop. Your videos have actually made me a better artist. They helped me find new ways I can design it and made me try out different kinds of art like alcohol markers and water color. I soon want to expand to gouache paint and others❤
@@ysabellethepotterhead5620 has nothing to do about what it looks like. It puts oils into the work creating uneven stains and then it will slowly start breaking down the graphite and discoloring it. Once you start getting better and making your graphite more even you will see how horrible it is to do. Why do you think any real graphite artist will tell you never touch your art with your fingers or blend with your fingers.
I use an eyeshadow blending brush instead of a blending stump, and it works really well! Just have to wash it every now and then to get the excess graphite out. I love drawing with pencils, but blending stumps are a sensory nightmare for me
In my art class when we used charcoal pencils and pastels, we used a setting spray when we finished so it wouldn’t get anywhere else. It works really well and I would recommend looking into getting one if you continue to work with graphites
I work predominantly in pencils so I can safely say Blackwing pencils are AMAZING. I got the same set for a birthday years ago and still use the same pencils to this day.
My English teacher used to hand out the limited edition Blackwing pencils out, I have about 15. He was one of the best teachers I ever had and my favourite English teacher. My whole class loved those days and I treasure those pencils. They’re so cute!
I love your drawlings and they inspire me so much! and the reason I’m still an artist is because of you! I’m honored to be one of the first people to see your video!
i've been going through a lot of art block lately, your videos really help me overcome it! also i draw with graphite pencils, and it's nice you tried it out, the artwork looks magnificent! :)
Hi if your having trouble with graphite or charcoal you can use hairspray to stop it from smudging. I'm not sure how well it would work for graphite pencils, but it works wonders for charcoal pencils too.
I have these pencils too! I think my favorite thing about them is that you can pinch the metal ends of the eraser and then just take it out and insert the eraser a little higher so you dont run out. I never seem to have any erasers left on my normal pencils so these ones are just absolutely fantastic!
The white one is my absolute all time favourite- my art teacher is so sweet, she puts together packages for me when we do a big art challenge like.. Inktober! She always gives me a pencil and some of her own art, It really makes my day seeing her talent
Graphite is probably my favorite method for drawing, I’ve had trouble with other materials and that is probably why I’m struggling to make a portfolio of 10 works to get into art 2 lol 😅
I love your art, Its very inspirational! Its fun seeing you test out different art supplies so we don't have to and I have actually tried some of them myself. I will never get tired of seeing your videos ❤️
Blackwing pencils are my favourite! I find so much less smudging on my hand and the page than I do with any other pencil. I use them in my diary, for sketching, note taking. Everything. I really love the replaceable erasers too. I find I can get so much variation in my shading from darkest dark to softest hints of shadow. Matte is my personal fave and I just bought a box with their 2 step sharpener.
You should try the Faber Castell Pitt Graphite Matte pencils. They range from HB to 14B and don't produce the dreaded shine found by overworking most other pencils. A recent drawing I did using them create super intense values that were completely matte no matter how hard I pressed.
Using a variety of pencil hardnesses can make a huge difference. I've used pencil for decades & it wasn't until I got into an illustration course it really sunk in. If you want your pencil art to have visual -pop- learn when to use different pencil weights.
If you do use graphite a lot, Blackwings are absolutely amazing to work with. Easy to make lighter and darker values, and just great texture.. can’t describe it better I’m afraid. But so worth their price… ❤
As a pencil artist, I highly suggest using a paintbrush to blend. Too!! And yes, a regular pencil would've worked just as well, but graphite has many different shades that makes the blending magical :)
I took a drawing class in 7th and 8th grade, and don’t have much experience with drawing outside of that, but in my few encounters with blending sticks, the noise they made on the paper was so horrible that it gave me goosebumps when touching the paper, and I’d have to take a break every 10 seconds. Even hearing the name and seeing the time lapse gave me shivers.
The thing with graphite is that you can get more of a black look instead of grey and also it makes it darker, you also don’t have to push as hard to get a dark look, but the sketch looked great!
The thing I love about those pencils though is that you can pull the eraser back up or switch them because they can be pulled out. I love using them when writing but I’ve never drawn with them.
It doesn't matter what medium I use it gets everywhere. I don't even have to be drawing. I'll be doing a cross word puzzle with highlighters cause I like the color and I'll come out looking like a highlighter myself. This has helped me learn I don't care how messy I am as long as I like what I'm doing😅
But also, with people more serious with pencil drawings, it gives diffrent value of color per-say, it help get those darker colors on hyper eelistic drawings
yes, all pencils are graphite pencils. well, graphite and clay mix, and by varying the mix you vary the hardness. these are just regular soft pencils, maybe with higher quality materials than less expensive brands, but still just a pencil.
I love graphite and i adore blackwings. Softer graphites are my fave, easy to get super dark with and the blackwings have easily replaceable erasers too!
I have one of those pencils and the coolest thing about it is the replaceable eraser. You can actually pull it out and replace it. I draw with pencils a lot and the erasers (especially good ones) will go fast and I sometimes couldn’t find my white one.
I loved graphite pencils and blending tools in high school and now I HATE them. I hate the oily smudgy look (and it getting everywhere haha). They are not relaxing to use, but you did amazing with this! One thing I still really like about pencils is how far you can push the values.
I love drawing with graphite, I always use a small sheet of paper for my hand to avoid smudging. I found that, besides blending sticks, if you layer your values you can get really smooth dark gradients. I've always liked softer leads because it helps avoided the "scratchy" pencil look.
I just wanted to say, as someone who struggles with loving thire art and thire self you make me feel really incourage to keep drawing. To the point where my sister ask if she could sell some of my pieces. I would usually give a vague response of, maybe, and then never do it. I would try but would feel awful, thinking how no one would want it or who could ever want something I made. This time though I was doodling and saw one of you video's. I was hooked, i ended up drawing 3 peice while watching all the shorts you made. I decided even if I don't think it's amazing maybe someone will. So thank you, thank you for being someone who encouraged me to try. Also thanks for normalize headphones in public as someone who had headphones when I was younger my family didn't get it and sometimes make not the nices comments. Like how I was never listening of I'm always on my headphones. I didn't know how tell people I was just more comfortable with them on. I didn't even know being overstimulation was a thing. I just thought everyone was right. I was rude and not very nice because I leave to my room or wear headphones all the time. So thanks for all you have done to help me not just as an artist but as a person. Hopefully I can come to love myself more and more. I hope even by a small chance you may be able to read this!
There is a certain type of glove that will go on your drawing hand and so when you do out your hand over your art it wound get on your hand and won’t smudge anywhere 😊 hope that helped! ❤
As being a beginner to art I don't really have much art supplies to work with so I just shade then with my normal pencil and be happy with it (my art is not really satisfactory to me). You did a great job shading Batman!
A good tip I got from a friend is when you're done with drawing with charcoal or graphite pencils is to put a thin layer of hairspray (any cheap kind will work) to stick it to the page. Hope this helps!
Honestly I've been using blackwing for quite some time and i love how it feels wayy more than any other pencil.i love how it leaves an actual matt finish and the eraser is very wide. I understand however that not a lot of people care as much for their pencils or they just don't like how the blackwing one feels which I respect 💗
Some way to make sure graphite doesn’t continue to rub on your hands is to seal your work with a lightweight sealant. You can get matte ones so that they don’t mess with the finish, and you can use a spray can, an airbrush, or even just a normal brush to put them on. Personally I like MSC and Army Painter Matte varnish. I don’t handle my work often so a coat of one of these just keeps them from rubbing or staining the other side of the notebook.
As an artist myself I prefer to work with graphite powder once the sketch and the shadow map is down, and to work and blend with that there's nothing that I recommend more than make up brushes ❤
I love working with graphite pencils, and to help us my teacher brought a set of paper to not do such a mess ,and we need to stick our paper on the board that we are working on, even tho we do all of these ,we are getting our hands a bit dirty ,but in my opinion An artist doesnt need to be always clean to make good Art
The best method for shading with graphite is turning it into powder then use a soft brush to shade, but it will get messy if you're not trained with it. Best use a charcoal powder or pencil.
Me personally I love using charcoal pencils and I get they’re mainly for shading but I feel like every time I use them it just always gives my art the look I’m going for and just feels good to use
I draw with Graphite and charcoal. It makes far more diverse shades of grey and black available to use on a particular drawing. It is my favorite medium and really the main thing that fills my sketchbooks
My FAVORITE pencil to use is your run of the mill Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencil. SOOOOO AMAZING! Mix it in with pencils ranging from 2B-12B and I can do a full portrait but the #2 doing most of the heavy lifting. And for those of you who don’t know, Dixon Ticonderoga #2 pencils are the same as HB.
I love the piece, but you had the perfect opportunity to draw *Nightwing* xD also def agree graphite, pastels, charcoal.. so messy.. and the oil from our hands can make it harder to blend later on, its so frustrating! I like to use artist gloves, like what tablet users use, it can help a bit of the mess and its already black. If you need a solid base, you can also shave off some of the graphite and apply it with a brush to save your wrist if you've never heard that one. They actually sell powdered graphite if you end up enjoying the method. Don't know if this helped anyone, but I hope you all have a wonderful day!
This is definitely off topic, but I’ve always loved your sense of style! To me, it gives you some sort of calming aura. Your voice even adds to the effect❗️🌀🌟
Honestly, as someone whose art medium was ONLY ever graphite, you just get used to everything. It’s a good starting medium because it helps you get more creative because you have basically 3 shades. Light grey, grey, and dark and shiny grey. It helps you get creative
Graphite/charcoal is one of my favorite mediums as I really suck at color and prefer black and whites. I might give these a try though, honestly when using graphite all you need is a pure graphite pencil a smudge stick a kneeded eraser and A REALLY GOOD ERASER
After drawing/shading with graphite hairspray will get it to not move around or smudge! It’s become very helpful for me after drawing with graphite! After it dries you can layer and shade more with the pencil as well and then spray another layer of hairspray to seal it :3
I think the draw for these pencils is that they are supposed to help with people who are heavy handed since you don't need a much pressure to use them.
