I Drove 5000 Miles And All I Got Was This STUPID Bricklin SV-1 From Vice Grip Garage?

So after 2 weeks on the road, traveling across the great United States of America it was time to head home. Before power tour I had made a deal with Derek from Vice Grip to buy his 1975 Bricklin SV-1. I didn't know much about the history of this hot rod other than it originally came from Tavarish in Florida....
The Bricklin was an over all flop when it was originally introduced to the market. It was only made for a few years with a total of 3000 cars built. So why would anyone want this junker? IT'S CANADIAN! A Canadian made car with gull wing doors? How could I not bring it home?
Derek gave me a good deal on the car, the payment actually went to charity, so at least someone wins from this transaction.

Hey Dan if you happen to see this: Back in the day there was a TV show called “Chop Cut Rebuild” that did a whole rebuild series on an orange ‘75 Bricklin that turned out really sweet. It’s probably a bit dated now, which makes me feel old, but it’s definitely worth a quick search/watch if you wanted to learn some more about them or even get some inspiration or ideas in the event you do something with it in the future. Prior to seeing that show I had never heard of a Bricklin so anytime one pops up that car is the first thing that comes to mind. They are neat little cars with an interesting story.

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon from Portage la Prairie to the west coast when we got to Calgary during the stampeed first weekend of July there were no rooms available ro rent.. Had to sleep all night with the 440 motor rumbling to keep warm..

If you GG Image Search "Grizzly trucks LTD" you will see a Yellow one on Flickr . I used to see the Blue pickup driving around North Van from time to time, and there is a red 4 door in Whistler at Route 99 & Lake Placid Rd beside the Seaside Diner GG Maps Lake Placid RD, Whistler BC.

Pretty cool projects but construction was less than perfect. I restored a couple of them. Those fiberglass panels are bonded to the metal innee structure. That bonding separates from the metal because the product back then was inferior. Going to have to peel it off and rebond it or it'll give you problems. Can be cool if done right. I think the guy that built the it was the first importer of Subaru or something like that if I remember correctly. Good luck and interested to see it get done.

His problem was the struts on the gull wing doors had gone bad and none of the parts houses in our part of Dallas had them , He had to wait till Delorian was introduced about 6 months later and bought the replacements for the Delorian door struts and they worked just fine on the Bricklin . The flip- up headlight motors came from a Corvette , those took some fabrication work to make those work !

Glad you made it home safely. I see my Biscayne is in the driveway. Let me know when I can pick it up. Make room for the Bricklin 👍👍🇨🇦

Call me crazy but a double layer of of cheap harbor freight tarps and some bungee cords over the top of a car before parking it would probably help keep the interior from getting swampy from leaks (or open windows).

When you said Super Car I KNEW what you had gotten from Derek. I watched him take it home. Personally I think it was a pretty cool car. Hope it doesn't take a whole lot to get it home. Good luck, and may God bless!!!
