I’m driving it now as a rental and I love it, very powerful, acceleration is excellent, the ride is comfortable, the stereo is fantastic, the seats are comfortable, the handling is very precise. The collision warning was a very nice feature. I’m gonna hate to return it when I get my car out of the shop.
Yeah, I rented one also. Its an excellent car. It is a driver's car, very good power and handling. Don't get all the dislikes for the Altima. Maybe people can't afford one and just want to complain!
@@calgary2800 it's not a drivers car, it's just a family/commuting simple sedan. Pretty good for what it is, but definitely not a drivers car, transmission behaves super strange and ruins it
CVT’s are not made for overly aggressive drivers who floor it at every green light, slam the brakes last second at every stop, and slam the damn shifter around while the car is still moving. Other than that, gentle driving goes well with a CVT. Most people abuse their cars though. A LOT.
I fell asleep and that vibration woke me up, that's what it's there for, not just to let you know your swaying to one side but if you nod off that vibration and sound will bring you back to an alert state! No complaints from me.
We went to Rent car for road trip and we wanted V6 Toyota Camry but was disappointed we got 4 cylinder base model Altima instead..sad😢 But after rented for a week put in almost 4000 miles I have to say Altima is excellent on gas, excellent on power and got everything I needed. Awesome car!
Drove it for a week as a rental. 20 hours of driving. I loved it. Felt so good especially for long drives. Sound system was great. Gas mileage great. It was so nice!
Bro I drove from from Los Angeles to San Diego and I felt like I was pushing 120 easy no effort and the gas only went down one tick. Very good I was sad I had to return it.
These "midsize" cars are getting ridiculously priced. Right under $35k for this? Plus that stupid CVT.. Nope. Insane that people are really financing these for 60, 72, 84 months at $400+ a month. Not worth it like it was 10 years ago. You could get the 3.5 SE V6 for right at $30k ... inflation is truly a bitch 😄 I would never pay over $30k for a midsize car with no power.
When you go to the dealer the platinum with awd is under 30k. Fully loaded with awd and extra accessories is around 34k msrp but thats only because the extra accessories.
I was at the dealership and the sr they had on display was 31k with accessories and that has leather looking seats. Not that much more money than that 3.5se even 10 yrs later
www.nissanofmiddletown.com/all-inventory/index.htm My local dealer you can get the tube model for 26k. I went thru allstate and its even less money than these deer prices with the discount! You're def not paying 35k lol. 2.0 sr turbo is 26k which is a cheapish way to do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.
CVT saps some life from this car, but Nissan makes reliable engines. It’s stylish and practical and efficient so it’s good for the masses, I’d rather see these than Rogues on the road. Keep up the affordable car reviews.
Only problem is Nissan has had the worst CVT's in the market for a long time now, their made by JATCO which has one of the worst reputations in the market. There's reports of many Nissans CVT's blowing far under 100k and them refusing or making it insanely difficulty to claim warranty.
@@TheTemplarnightThis has nothing to do with new Nissans, so once again stfu because the NHTSA would have to conduct an investigation if there was any issues with these Transmissions.
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 199,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
Exactly! If you keep up on the maintenance as scheduled.l you're good! Oil changes and fluid changes are a MUST ! Also you cant drive it like a racecar and it will last you ! I STILL love Nissan !
I'm surprised Eddie made a video about a Nissan Altima. Coming from a guy that has had a Audi RS7 and have drove tons of performance luxury vehicles, this is quite a bit new blend to the mix. the 2015 Nissan Altima was my first car ever and i still own it till this date, this thing will never out-perform any of the mid-spec BMW/Audi's, but one thing i can always appreciate is the Fuel Efficiency that the CVT offers and for someone who has already gotten use to the CVT, it sort of just becomes second nature and you don't even crave dual clutch or automatic while you're paying literally pennies on the dollar for the amount of gas that you're saving. Not many people can afford the Audi's and the BMW's, but this video sort of drifts into a category where majority of people might actually take your feedback into consideration while they weigh in their options of what family/4 door/fuel efficient centric vehicles they're going to purchase next.
While I personally may have owned some higher end performance vehicles, I still enjoy driving and evaluating a wide variety of vehicles. My family isn't into cars, they have owned a Ford Flex and a couple Ford fusions, I drive a mercury villager and Ford taurus in high school. I plan on continuing to film as wide of a variety of vehicles as I can!
I bought a 2015 Altima a few months ago and I like everything about it, although the CVT is the only downside. And even at that it isn’t all that bad, I love steering feel.
I actually disagree with the car being not very fast. I have a ‘21 SR AWD and it’s deceptively quick. Not going to out dig a Challenger or anything, but it will take off when it wants to.
I had it as a rental, drove 700 miles in 3 days (80% interstate) and got 47 MPG! That's hybrid territory without the complexity of a hybrid powertrain or battery replacement cost.
Tell you what, I'm really impressed with all of these new driver assist options. I was in Florida last weekend and had a new Sonata as a rental. I've had no experience with driver assist other than auto braking and back up alerts. The Sonata on the highway with lane keep and adaptive cruise was a dream. It literally drove itself. Just to test it with no cars around I took my hands off the wheel for a good couple minutes and just let it go by itself and sure enough it was basically driving itself. It did alert me to keep my hands on the wheel though after a bit. I would anyway as I don't fully trust technology but I just wanted to try without hands as a test. It was great. Perfect for long boring drives.
You're wayyyyyyy to arrogant for your number of subscribers. Also, by most standards, 178 hp is NOT low performance. Then again, from your ramblings I conclude that some messed up train of thought led to you owning a ram and several audis, so what am I wondering about.
Thanks for acknowledging that your hate on CVT transmissions is irrelevant when dealing with this class of cars, along with reference to speed. Buyers of this class simply don’t care.
I'm just over the CVT hate, sure they aren't "enthusiast" focused transmissions but they're great in city traffic, the thing that bothers me most about CVTs nowadays is the fake shifting they add, it sounds so fake... People complain about Nissan's CVTs but they seem to be like most other cars in terms of reliability, you'll hear a bunch of people talk about failures below 100k, other people (like myself) have Nissans with over 224k & the original trans. Makes you wonder how some people treat their cars.
So true I have a 2012 Altima with 225,000 miles and have never changed the trans fluid and still going strong but I don’t rag it out either, only issues I have had in 6 yes with the car is oil cooler gasket and had to changed coil packs twice👍🏽
The only reason I took a test drive of this was for the pro pilot assist and they surely did a good job. The vehicle is worth it just for that if you need that technology to reduce stress on road. Also I found the bose audio system in this much better tuned and punchy than the one in 2018 maxima which I currently have. I am considering to get this as my next lease to keep payments low. This is definitely a bang for your buck in the market with an incredible pro pilot assist feature.
@@Alex.AL_26 doubt it. I've seen kia hyundai 2.0 turbos go out alot with only 100k miles on it. There hasn't been any widespread issues out of the cvt redesign.
Altima 2.0sr turbo is 26k at my dealer. I doubt you're getting a kia stinger for that cheap plus I felt way more comfortable in the altima compared to the kia and the 2.0sr will pull a higher skid pad number get better mpg and be quicker than the kia. Imagine getting the 4cyl kia and just having a car that looks quick but isn't? Couldve gotten the 6cy turbo but u were being a cheap turd lol
I rented this vehicle for two weeks in Florida. I loved the interior. Very impressed. Also I did not find it slow at all. I just tapped the gas and it was good. The car rode like it was floating and felt light over the road. Nice wide stance..handled great. It reminded me of my first car a 68 Caprice. Mileage was fantastic. I'd like to buy one..just afraid of the Nissan Jatco transmission.
i own an 09 altima and yes the cvt can be a worrisome pain in the ass however cvt is old enough now that at least in my city there are multiple shops that can rebuild them. i also haven’t had any issues with mine which is now at 120xxx miles with cvt fluid changed ever 20k miles.
Stop complaining about CVT’s just because it is different from the standards automatics that have been around since the 50’s. It revs up when you accelerate to give you more power, thereby allowing Nissan to put in a smaller, more efficient engine. Believe it or not, not everyone buys a car based solely on performance. Some of us just need to get around comfortably and efficiently. So stop bitching about CVT’s and try to comprehend what it’s like to be a regular plebeian like the rest of us Mr. “it’s not as fast as my Audi”.
CVT's aren't as rugged or long term reliable as perfected 'old school' automatics, idiot. Many hardworking savvy buyers want reliability too, especially after plunking down 30 grand or more for a vehicle these days!
Looking at these right now, had a Subaru WRX, a Chrysler 300c, a Hyundai genesis coupe; but I think it's time to grow up and look for something simple, reliable, and can ACTUALLY handle Minnesota winters. The 2020s with 50-70kish miles are going for about $20k right now which is right in my Price range. Unless there's something just as stylish, AWD, and in that price range; I think this is gonna be my next car
@@JohnSmith-ot7iy Most of these failures come from owners who fail to properly maintain their cars according to the maintenance schedule. If the owner's manual says to change the transmission fluid at 60k miles then change at 60k miles or sooner. Trying to squeeze in another 5 to 15k miles will leave you stranded and out of several thousands of dollars when you could just follow instructions and save money, time and inconvenience.
You're RIGHT... (not your words but)... CVTs SUCK!! NISSAN has been dropping the ball when they got rid of the SE-R ALTIMA. Now that was the best ALTIMA ever
Yea the base model. I’d rather have a fully loaded Altima then a maxima with no custom options. Plus the Altima kinda has better body styling and design.
I've driven other Nissans like the Sentra, the Versa Note, as well as other CVT vehicles like the Chevy Spark, and last-gen Toyota Corolla and I have to say the new Altima has the best CVT of all of them hands-down. It feels a lot more direct than prior ones - as in, your gas pedal feels like it's actually connected to something. The ratios change decently quickly as well. However, I'd still take a regular automatic any day... OK except the new Camry. The 8-speed in the new Camry is not very smart, to the point where I am not sure whether I'd rather have it or this Altima's CVT. Just for some perspective. :)
@@matt4398 I don't, however I have rented a latest-gen Camry on two different occasions - a 2018 and a 2019. I got to drive the Altima a few times while wife's car was in the shop, and also got a loaner Altima one other time from the dealership. Also when I had my Lexus, I got a loaner 2019 ES 350, and the programming of the 8-speed in that car is far better than it was in the Camry. Same transmission, too. Just seemed a lot smoother in the Lexus.
ive had a bunch of nissan cars and love them.. good on gas safe and reliable for me also i dont mind the cvt at all but yea its weird at first... the e-shifting or trans ratio is using wheel speed and load to adjust the gears. I take off with a bit of gas and then back off teh pedal to get teh trans to get to its lowest ratio and ive increased my versas mpg by 8mpg instead of on of the gas off the gas
If Nissan could - Get rid of the CVT on their flagship and popular cars (Maxima, Altima, etc.) and replace it with a 8 or 10 speed auto - Offer AWD on the Maxima and the turbo option on the Altima - Actually update their cars in a timely manner (not 10+ years before a refresh) I think people would be more willing to purchase Nissan's again. Everyone I've talked reminiscences about the old Nissan, where they had cool cars and were just as reliable as Toyota or Honda but wouldn't dare step foot in a new Nissan due to what they have become today.
Test drove this car about 1 week. Ago debating about going with this or a 2017 and up A3. If Nissan got rid of the cvt or at the bare minimum swapped who was making their cvt it would be an easy decision. The SR trim is awesome.
Seems pretty similarly priced to my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid (33k sticker, paid 26k). Both have CVTs and similar cruise control suite. Except my Honda gets 50+MPG. Idk why anyone would buy the Altima
Hello, I own a 2020 Altima and it gets 50+ mpg on the highway without breaking a sweat. Plus, I have made multiple 8+ hr drives in the car and no fatigue. So to each his own, but I love my non-hybrid car's mpg.
I mean it’s my favorite car but like it would blow mines to damage that screen pointing up like that I would have to see it and have the money

I still have a 2007 Altima. Almost 160k on it and the CVT has still held up. As for power, the 3.5 V6 is perfectly good, you'll blow the doors off most cars in its class. I'd get another Altima in a heart beat, I just wish they still offered the coupe :(
Nissan seats are the best. I have a 2018 Altima and drive quite a bit. 3-4 hours at a clip is about average. I have had many sedans over the years, and judge many by the comfort they provide. If I don't have to stop by hour 2 to get out and stretch and walk around to relive back pain, then the car gets a thumbs up. With the zero gravity seats, driving 3-4 hours non-stop is not a problem. Also, my 2018 Altima with the 4 cylinder gets about 38 MPG on a highway cruise. Mixed driving the car still gets 33-34 MPG. Why to to hybrid or other systems, which add complexity and cost? My next sedan will be another Altima also! Just a point on the CVT transmission. My last car was a Subaru with a CVT. I thought the was somewhat jerky - never felt like the transmission knew exactly what gear it should be in. The Nissan is a lot better, and while not the feel of a geared transmission, it is not terrible. Check out an Altima - you won't be disappointed!
My mom got this car as a rental and we both loved it, we would never thought we would ever drive a basically new car. We had it for 2 weeks and had to bring it back in. We both miss that car so much. Such a great car!
I have a VW Jetta a European car and to me the 2020 Altima I just rented feels like a better driving car. I want one in my garage, Sweet motor sweet CVT ( not a typo) and good handling with light accurate steering. I think all this jumping on the Altima hate is lemmings hopping on the hate Nissan train.
I don’t know why American don’t get a wood trim as what in Asia would be called Nissan Teana with Windows shade and wood trim. Altima is basically a shitty version of Nissan Teana. I think Teana look even better than Altima and even more luxurious than Maxima ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yyQtIXV9OYw.html here one from 2004 which probably the same platform as Nissan Altima. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-21UbhBt-HRc.html This is 2011 Nissan Teana which is better than Nissan Altima too
I drive a 2017 Nissan Sentra and I had mines in the shop for body work. I was given a rental of a 2022 and I got to be honest. I felt the interior felt cheap compared to my 2017 Sentra which feels more premium. The materials feel even more cheap than the outgoing Altima. I just feel like the car while it rode good and the speakers in the one I had were already going out, it just felt like a cheaply made car.
I'm currently renting a 2019 Nissan Sentra, and CVTs are mixed bag. They shift very smooth, BUT the CVT gets loud at higher acceleration. Also it has the occasional tendency to hold high RPM, leading to the car accelerating faster than normal after coming from a stop. Good thing the safety feature are top notch!
Eric P I too rented a 19 Sentra and the CVT is not good in that model. However the CVT in the Rogue and Versa Note were excellent, could not tell it from a regular automatic. It’s not all equal with CVts
My daughter owned a 2011 Nissan Altima that the empty console caught on fire and burned the entire front seat area during the night in our driveway. Nissan corporation's response... "it's is older than 4 years so we are not legally obligated to investigate the cause." Lawyer said I would lose thousands trying to sue them for reimbursement and endangering my daughter's life. I WILL NEVER OWN A NISSAN AGAIN!
I took this car for rental.. I am really sorry for driving it.. It's just boring. Also the sitting space is really congested. I personally will not drive this car again.. Corolla 2018 is much better than altima 2020..lol..
hey bro a ford Focus is a luxury when money is an issue, how many times do you have to say you own an Audi Audio whatever '' a car is a car, not all people, have money or friends in dealerships, my 1st car was a ''focus '' I was so glad in 2005 I worked hard for it,I thought I' was driving a Benz
Bought mine new and I've own the '20 SR AWD now for about 3 years and barely 9500 miles. Still drives like new. Efficient on gas, handles great around turns and comfy with all the technology I need. Comes with Remote Start too! Very Happy with the purchase!
The second I heard cvt im like annnnnnd im out. I owned 2 cars with CVTS ( prius's Press F in the chat ) WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER ONE! Since then gotten alot better. Had a Audi a6 with the 4,2 and now my toy car E39 m5 with 120000 miles
Thats same 2.5sl with awd will cost you 28k when you go to the dealer or even below 27k if you don't get awd. The s base model at the dealer can be had for 20k.
I ended up buying a 20 Nissan altima. I went out looking for a pickup druck and came home with this... It does nothing great... It's not exciting... It's not going to get you dates...lol.. But it does do everything well and serves its purpose... It's a wonderful car for long drives.. As far as the c v t transmission I find that the transmission adapts to your driving style.. And after getting used to it learning how to drive it I like it
P s the info tame and system stinks... You literally cannot shut off the radio getting into the car.. The volume knob on the radios break... So literally every time you start the car up? The radio was at full volume and you can't shut the radio off or turn it down...
Kevin Jeuong of car reviews. You got a good voice and that smile humor just like him haha.. awesome review bro you’re fast and straightforward nothing wasted here. I like the looks of this thing too except I’m weary of the cvt. However I would think Nissan revised their transmission by now because of all issues people had. Especially with low mileage used Altimas should be considered. I don’t keep cars long anyways at most 5-6 years. By the time a car gets to 80-90k issues will come so I usually trade for a new toy by that timeframe 😎
I have a 2010 Altima, and 2013 Pathfinder I'm not a fan of CVT transmission as well, but there are other things about both cars I like, the 2020 Altima looks nice, I never drove one but it Nissan should've kept the the 6 cylinder as well with 270 plus hp.
i rent a lot of cars, and have had a number of pathfinders and rogue's and a beautiful metallic pearl blue 2020 maxima with the optional 300hp V6 which was fantastic. in the pathfinders, if you get off the lane like you stated, it actually locks up the brakes !! which in the rain is quite scary if your not expecting it + for the people behind you. but i Love the Rogue very much, my rentals last for months, so i do learn quite a bit about the car. your video was spot on ..i just subscribed. keep these coming.
Such a shame that this car doesn't have a manual option, since imo it looks really great. Manuals shouldn't be tied only with performance vehicles. Plus these driver assists just create worse drivers on the road. I love technologicals advancements, but smartphones are screwing up the roads. All of them should be kept muted with mobile data off. You make great stuff btw Eddie, I still think that you came out way better from the VV split :)
