I applaud you. But I would applaud you no matter what system or camera you use. Enjoy what works for you and ignore the crusaders attempting to convert you to their way of thinking. I have the X-H2S, although I am sure I would enjoy most other cameras and systems.
Yikes - do you actually care if changing camera brands is a popular move? Popularity is judged by other people. Uh, that doesn't happen to be your main criteria for choosing a camera brand, is it? But just so you know, the Fuji X-H2s is actually quite a great choice -
Purchased a X-H2S 4 months ago. In 20 years of photography, this camera feels like the perfect hybrid and I have used Canon and Sony full frame along the way. In the process of moving to Fujifilm with two X-H2S camera bodies. The X-H2S to me is the perfect camera ever made regardless of sensor size.
Do you mean for professional use? Is the APSC sensor enough? I know a lot of pro video and cine cameras uses super 35, but for photography full frame have more advantages
@@amermeleitor I think segmenting 35mm sensors (full frame) as something professionals use exclusively is probably not a truism. 35mm sensors due to their larger sensors definitely have an advantage if you want to blur the background or shoot in very low light. APSC sensors tend to have an advantage when photographing wildlife/birds. This is due to the field of view being cropped for the same focal length. This effectively gives you more reach with the same magnification. Concurrently they are also better for macro because the depth of field is less. Micro four thirds sensors tends to be best here. Smaller sensors all’s tend to scan faster and have less data to push through. So you can potentially shoot faster. In the case of the X-H2S and especially the OM-1 excel at adventure photography due to exceptional weather sealing of their bodies and lenses. The lenses tend to be smaller too, making it a lot more portable for hiking and wildlife photography. So, it really depends on your use case. I have both a 35mm sensor system as well as a Fujifilm APSC. I find that the Fujifilm’s film simulations give gorgeous colors straight out of camera. Fujifilm and Olympus systems seem to have gorgeous colors in my view. But it’s all personal and if full frame (35mm) sensors work for you, then you should go that way.
Great video. I have a Fuji X-T5. I wanted it for BIF w/ the 100-400. Tracking was good but the photos were not sharp. I got an R5 w/ RF100-500. Yes bigger and a little heavier but the photos are really sharp. I still like the Fuji for everyday walk around with the 16-80. I'm fortunate to have both. Thanks. Great comparison.
Well done! .. in 10 minutes.. I strive to be that on-point/succinct. I have been a Fuji shooter for about a decade and recently switched to Sony (A7IV) for a bit and then tried the Canon R6ii… after using the X-H2S. I should have never left the X-H2S and have since gone back to the X-H2S. AF of the X-H2S is 90/95% as good as the A7IV and R6ii. Colors from the Fuji are better. Build of the Canon is top notch but I just got tired of carrying all that weight. Also, if you don’t spend $$$ the quality of the Canon RF glass doesn’t match the Fuji. For example, I will put the Fuji 35 f2 up against the RF 35 1.8 ANY DAY.. Fuji wins and the Fuji 33 1.4 BLOWS that RF 35 1.8 away. Speaking of glass. Fuji wins all day.. The Fujicrons (23/3/50 f2) all shoot above their price tags. I am LOVING the 14mm 2.8.. the 70-300 is a great non-pro zoom and just as good as the RF 70-200 f4. I have owned them all. Where Fuji REALLY wins is community.. Fuji X Weekly and al the amazing recipes… I am so sued to sharing to a couple Fuji subreddits and when I went to do so with Canon I was informed that sharing images wasn’t welcome.. they want to talk about boring gear and printers.. but you CAN share a 💩 shot of your new gear.. but just don’t post a gorgeous SoCal sunset there.. So happy to be back with Fuji.. and I am not a pro but do shoot daily and now do all of our family’s photography needs.
Good video. I'll add that Fuji's 50-140 f/2.8 is the best event photography lens I've ever used when coupled with an XH2s. I highly recommend renting one and reviewing the combo for the channel.
This lens was used to shoot some of The Joker movie promo pictures. For example, that famous photo where the joker is dancing on the stairs was shot using a Fuji X camera and this lens.
@@WesKriesel M a bit hesitant to buy 50-140 and there is no other alternative to this in 3rd party lenses. Image quality is great but it doesn't work well with sun haze. How was your experience?
I think the XH2s is a very well tuned hybrid camera. The stacked sensor with increased dynamic range excels in video at high frame rates. The AF is fast and reliable (at least to my application) . Fujifilm has a very good lens system . The APS-C works well for me striking a perfect balance between weight and image quality.
Great video my man! I ditched a Sony a7iv for the fuji for most of the reasons you mentioned. Most people are very uninformed when it comes to sensor size. 10 year old beliefs mixed with great Sony/canon marketing has people believing sensor size is king when in reality what’s far more important is dynamic range, rolling shutter, high iso noise, and overall quality of the image. When I say quality of the image I mean does the sensor/processor render a digital looking image or a film like image.
I definitely think it's true. Especially when you think of how much more video plays a role in what's created these days - sensor size is not always king.
I sold my Sony A1 and FX3 with a full set of Tamron zooms and sigma art primes for the Fuji xh2s and xh2 combo; also with a set of fuji primes and zooms. I sometimes miss the A1, that thing was a beast and basically never failed at anything I threw at it. Image quality across photo and video was always stunning. But I’ve been very happy with the Fujis. I’ve always used the smaller xe1 and xe4 as my personal use cameras And now I can use my Fuji glass from those on the xh2 and xh2s as well. It’s really nice to just live in one ecosystem for a while across all my gear.
@@DineshBhadwal Uh… No. If I were it would be a pretty bland joke. No issues with the switch either. The gap of quality between brands is closing rapidly.
@@TheJ_G I mean the A1 is probably the best of both the worlds minus internal raw and the FX3 has the best sensor right now. So good that it has been used on a recent Hollywood film. Fuji is a different camera system altogether. I am really surprised with this switch. I am sure it's working for you or won't make such a change. I don't think I know of anyone who left A1 and FX3 for a Fuji.
This does seem strange. Your statement about the A1 never failing at anything, and that the image quality is basically unsurpassed seems to be in opposition to your switch to Fuji? A single ecosystem I understand however.
Wes, I took your advice & rented the X-H2S. I must say I’ve been impressed with the improvements Fuji has made. I love my XT3 and the affordability & size of their native glass. Not to mention 3rd party manufacturers. When I originally sold my Canon kit it was to move to the Sony A74. Now I have a decision to make. Full frame vs crop sensor. Fuji is making it harder. I shoot mostly portraits which Fuji is great doing in controlled environments. Their hit rate has moved closer to full frame in other settings. The issue I struggle with is they both are at the same price point. This decision is way harder than it should be!
I'm going to keep my EOS R, was on the fence about the X-H2 and the S5II for a few weeks now... but after doing some research and onsite testing I think I'll give the X-H2s a Go!. I can always upscale the 26mp in Luminar and I feel the dynamic range on the H2s will hold better than the X-H2 and since ill be using B-RAW at times for most of my video needs It might be the right choice. Thanks for your review and all your tests.
Spot on, Wes! I have the X-H2s for personal stuff and the place I work has the R5. I always find myself going for the Fuji because of the shooting experience.
I just found your channel and Great video! I just recently switched to the Fujifilm gfx line from Nikon and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to another camera brand! The Fujifilm colors are incredible even on the raw files especially for landscape photography!
i switched from nikon to fuji a while back. for one shoot i used both systems side by side, i couldn't believe how 'bad' the colour on the nikon was compared to the fuji, couldn't match it no matter how hard I tried. to think i loved nikon for all those years…
RF Lenses are either big heavy and expensive or they are small cheap boring and not weather sealed. There is nothing in between like medium size f1.4 lenses.
That’s exactly what I’m dealing with right now I bought the canon r5 right before they announced that they weren’t going to release the RF full frame mount to third party unbelievable I wouldn’t have bought it if I would have known that so now my Fuji xh2 is more appealing for lenses and color and weight just wish their autofocus was a little better
Which is actually a positive for event photography. That's one of the main reasons I prefer the Fuji. When I'm on a wedding dance floor I need 1.2 light, but I hate only getting one face in focus. I absolutely never wish I had shallower DOF than 1.2 gives here, but deeper DOF IS another story
But apsc has about a stop worse performance with iso so it still has a f1.8 digital noise performance. So if you use a Sony f1.8 you’ll get a similar depth of field and noise performance as the Fuji f1.2
@@Yupthereitism Absolutely true Andrew, however in real-world situations I haven't yet found a use case in the last 3 years where I would use my Sony A7sii, the low light king, instead of a fujifilm camera, even with campfire shots I've ended up shooting fuji at 1600 wide open with great results. I had the A7sii with me as a backup, but just can't find a good use for it anymore since switching to Fuji. You can buy my Sony at a great discount if you want it!
Great video and I have made the switch from Canon to Fuji and don’t regret it at all, but I am not sure i agree FF has more depth of field?? For me im getting a lot more depth of field and more in focus with APSc, FF gave me a lot more shallower depth of field which wasn’t ideal for a lot of my work. Keep up the content, we need more real Fuji photographers like you.
yes you are right elias, i think wes meant more (better) bokeh, not more depth of field. of course aps-c has more depth of field, which is better for video and by using faster glass you can compensate if you want to match (or at least get close to) the same bokeh that FF offers
@@movingimage_co_nz definitely, I get all the shallow depth I could ever want with the 33mm f1.4, 50mm f1.0 and the latest viltrox 75mm f1.2 which I have on order.
Awesome video. I just got one, bought the 16-55 f2.8 at the same time. It's taking me a little time to get acquainted with the controls (I've had the X-H1, X-T3, X-E1 and still have two X-Pro1s)... but I'd say a week in, I agree with you that the hit rate on autofocus is super good, and I've had no issues with pushing exposure in any situation, the camera system just has many times more juice than I expected.
As a Sony A7iv user who cannot stand its inability to focus reliably on moving subjects, I've been considering the XH2S. But I'd need a Fuji f2 telezoom to match the shallow depth of field of the 2.8 70 200. The Canon R6ii and R8 with their fast readout sensors seem to be better options at the moment.
Your comments about the lenses is really underrated. Fuji makes some amazing glass. The new trio of 1.4 primes, the 18, 23, and 33 are all incredible. The new 30mm macro is on fire. The new 56mm and 50mm 1.0, the list just goes on. All under 2 grand
Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! I have to try the 1.4 primes and the 50mm. I did pick up the new 56mm and while the results can be amazing, it's not my favorite lens in terms of performance. I feel like the Viltrox 56mm performs better in terms of AF.
Thank you for this review. I couldn't agree more. I'm a Panasonic S52X video shooter. It's a GREAT CAMERA. But I'm in the process of switching to the X-H2s. Why. For all the reasons you mentioned, especially the 6k internal Pro res recording, and I'm very impressed by the Auto focus, which is now up there with the big boys. Once that's done, the F-Log 2 is out of sight fantastic the best log codec I know of, closely followed by the Panasonic V-Log. The Film simulations are a treasure---far, far, far better than anything Sony or Canon can offer in Log codecs or LUTs. The X-H2s is a winner, and worth every penny. And wisely, Fuji has allowed some excellent third party lens makes to create great lenses, this includes adapters of Canon EF glass, Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox, all have affordable excellent lenses that perform every bit as well as Fuji lenses. I hate to sell my Panasonic, but I can't afford to keep both. That said I have NOTHING negative to say about Panasonic. If you love full frame (I don't) the Panasonic S5iiX is the bargain of the market. But the Fuji is just better for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’ve done some thorough research and testing before making the switch to the X-H2s. I’m glad to hear that its features, especially the 6K ProRes, autofocus improvements, and F-Log 2, align so well with your needs. The film simulations really do set Fujifilm apart, don’t they? It’s tough to part with a camera like the Panasonic, but it seems like the X-H2s is the right choice for your work moving forward. Appreciate your detailed insight-this will definitely help others considering their options. All the best with your new setup!
Man.. this is one compelling take as I sit here and look at my R5 with the huge lenses I have to hike with for my video work! HA. Thanks for the insights
@@WesKriesel I mainly do lowlight concert photography and event photography. It feels intentional using this camera even though it’s missing the traditional Fuji dials.
Hi Wes, what are your favorite mid range zoom lens for Fuji? I am debating betwent he 16-55 or the sigma 18-50 or the fuji 16-80. I am wondering which ones you like
I have an R6 and X H2s. I always grab the Fujifilm camera. Gonna sell the R6. Images from the XH2s along with the film simulations are so much better. Af not as good but close enough.
Nikon's new 135mm 1.8 is a whopping $2,500!! Fuji's excellent 90mm f/2, a 135mm full frame equivalent, can be purchased for 1/3 the cost of Nikon's 135m 1.8.
How has it been adjusting to the photo autofocus system in Fuji for you coming from Canon? I just have always found the Canon so much simpler and I like that there's the option for continuous autofocus that combines "wide" and "single point" where as on Fuji it's split into two different modes. The autofocus system is the main and only thing I do not like about my Fuji. I have the RP and the X-S10.
Thank you for watching and for leaving a comment! I’ve had a good experience with the Fuji AF on the X-H2s. Recently I had a couple of weird occurrences on the Fuji 56mm and the Viltrox 56mm. I’m going to test both after updating the firmware.
Hey Wes! I believe the canon 70-200 2.8 rf is 2.35lbs and the Fuji 50-140 2.8 is 2.19lbs. So not really a difference there. The canon 28-70 f2 is a beast though haha
Yeah but what about the difference in price? You can get 16-55 and a 50-140 for the same price as the Canon 70-200mm, my second photographer uses the canon system and in the editing stage im not seeing any improvement in quality, if anything I prefer the skin tones and color from the fuji, the canon definitely has slightly softer creamier backgrounds i give it that, but thats the only positive i can draw, but its not something my customers look for, the Fuji 50-140 does that good enough for me and my clients.
mostly travel. I am not as professional as you are but I enjoy photography for personal creative reasons. I had the R5 for a year, BUT i just could not like the camera. I had the Sony A7R and when it died i got the Canon. So a few months ago i traded the R5 for the Sony A7R4A. LOVE IT. Now I was given a Lumix S1R. as a gift BUT TOO HEAVY and will be trading for the HX2S. with a zoom lens. Your thoughts. I also own a Leica TL2. go figure. LOL
@@samarianosans I KNOW I KNOW!!!! but the photos just did not have the umph!!! my Sony A7R4A produced. Hopefully the Fuji switch is a good one. We shall see.
I changed from the R5 to the X-H2s for client photography. However, it's more than capable for client video needs, and I'm starting to do more video with it.
I believe the R3 is Canon’s best full frame camera. Having owned both I would not trade the R3 for the R5. The R3 features Canon’s first stacked sensor. Higher dynamic range and better lower light. Nevertheless, I’m sure the Fuji is great.
Totally right, of course! I lost track of the Canon lineup - the R3 is THE flagship. And has a stacked sensor? Oh no. Don't make me want to go out and rent it.....
LOL, I love that honesty! I went from the T4 to the X-H2S. I liked the T4, but really enjoy the X-H2S. The T4 autofocus is only good on single point, most of the time.@@WesKriesel
The r8 is not a good event camera. No ibis, tiny battery, no mechanical shutter, overheating problems, 8bit in every mode other than clog3(which is terrible for low light), high priced event lenses, heavier lenses, micro hdm, and no prores. I’m not sure why people even consider the R8
The XH2s has still severe flaws and limitations looking at the AF C tracking performance (team sports) and freezing is still an issue. If they don't improve, I am selling my XH2s and XH2 end of this year.
If you’re not using DxO Pure Raw 3 to process Fuji RAW files you are not getting the best out of the images. If you aren’t getting sharp images you are doing something wrong. My X-Hs2 and XT5 images are as good or better than any of the full frame images I’ve taken.
@@FotosyMas. then you experienced something drastically different than I have. I’ve shot with a Z6, Z6II, Z5, Sony A9, A7RIIIa, A7III, A7C and Canon 6D MKII. I get the same IQ or better with my Fujis. But I also use the better Fuji lenses. No 3rd party except the Viltrox 75 1.2 Pro and 13 1.4, which are brilliant. Shot a wedding, several senior shoots, family shoots, portraits and sports. Nobody can tell me which ones are FF and which ones are Fuji APSC. Nobody.
