i literally just got a smoothie today from a korean-owned spot and was wondering what ingredient was giving it such a nutty/wheat-y taste - mystery solved, it was misugaru! i blind ordered and assumed it was some kind of fruit lol, super tasty though

I enjoy the episodes with Steve, great personality! I turned 21 in Korea :-) while on KP, washing dishes and skinning potatoes, because my replacement didn't show up I did an extra day on KP. I walked around town drinking SoJu, eating Perogi's (Kegogi?) and traded K-rations for moon pies. I asked the sweet elderly Korean lady what was in the Kegogi and she just went Woof Woof Woof. I said.... oh my god. But it tasted soooo good. Met an amazing Seoul college student there and after a month I wanted to marry her so very much. Sadly my deployment ended early and we lost touch. I called her once I got back home and some other guy answered the phone :-( The people from Wanju were such nice people. I loved it there. I have been trying to learn to make more Korean style meals and this video was a great help. Thank you!

What a fun consept of a series 🙂 You should do "Eat like a norwegian" or something, since I know we are little bit different from many other nordic countries in that we eat a lot of bread with a variety of pålegg (cheese, cold cuts etc). Many other nordic countries eat hot lunches, but that is rare here. I would love to send you some videos or something if you need it 😉

My stepmom taught me to make a heating pad with a long sock, rice on the sock (not cooked btw), and just heating it for like 2-3 mins, works very well, def recommend (maybe buy a pair of long socks instead if using used ones btw)

Eating out in Korea is cheaper than cooking for 1. A lot of the traditional wholesale markets sell only in bulk so end up wasting most of the food.

This is so great to watch because I've been reading a lot of Korean webtoons lately and food always plays a huge part in these stories, which made me really interested in Korean cuisine! If Korean cuisine seems neat to you too and you'd like to try cooking Korean dishes, I really recommend the YT channel "Aaron and Claire"; they make Korean recipies really easy and accessible.

But upon further reflection..I have peach flavored soju..so maybe not the best mixer. I will pick up a bottle of good ol fasion plain soju next time and try this cocktail. :]

I’m learning korean right now because I want to do a year abroad studying animation! It’s interesting because the Korean alphabet is very easy to learn, it was designed that way. So I can read any Korean writing, but translating it is hard because of the difference in sentence structure and conjugation! Unlike in English where consonants and vowels can be pronounced differently depending on their place next to other letters or even if they are at the beginning or end of a word which makes it hard to learn. I also love Korean food because it gives the flavors and complexity but it is a lot of vegetables and clear broths and good starches and meats that make up healthy meals. The hardest part is living here in the us (specifically in Arlington TX where I am) while we have access to Asian markets, they are mostly Vietnamese/middle eastern focused. Which are good for some base ingredients, but it’s still a very different cuisine and palette. I have to drive about an hour to find a good korean market, but it’s so worth it for the pre-made banchan and good ramyun aisles.

I definitely feel like Shane has a good chance because he's such a wild card. He'd either go all the way or get taken out immediately because of a really random decision. His utter lack of fear would serve him very well though! I think Steven's competitive nature COULD get him far, but it could also be his downfall as well. Ryan might be okay, if he goes full Ricky Goldsworth. Loved the episode too! I'm definitely gonna try some of this! Microwave miso and rice sounds like a really satisfying and easy lunch.

I really enjoyed this, and there's a ton of potential for where they can take the show. Personally, I'd love to hear more about the subjects' lives and cultures, their stories behind the food, etc. A live conversation rather than a pre recorded segment would also be cool. Steven's always seemed to be interested in the "people side" of food, and I agree that that's the best part about shows like this!
