The weird thing in my opinion is that the era of the ancient past was when people spoke ancient hylian, so how tf were they able to communicate like this

I don't know how this compares in other languages, but the ancient stone tablets were written in Middle English to represent the ancient Hylian language. So I'd imagine the implication is the writing system may differ further, but the spoken language was similar enough to be largely recognizable, especially to a royal like Zelda who was already in a position to study relics of that time period, and showed considerable interest in it.

Suspension of disbelief n' all, but there are two weird nitpicky things about these scenes I've noticed in hindsight. 1) At the very start, even if Link had caught Zelda's hand... what was his plan after that? To his knowledge, they'd both just plummet into the chasm. 2) There's no way Ganondorf could see Rauru's secret stone from that incredibly far distance unless he has eyes better than that of a hawk. You don't think about this while watching these scenes for the first time, but think about it a bit longer and yeah, it's a bit weird. Lol.
