I entered into unknowing
and there I remained unknowing
which is all knowledge transcending
I entered into unknowing
yet when I saw myself there
without knowing where I was
I understood great things
I will not say what I felt
For I remained in unknowing
which is all knowledge transcending
That perfect kind of knowledge
was of piece and holiness
held at once in solitude
it was a profound thing
To feel myself being there
so removed and absorbed I was being
which is all knowledge transcending
I was being so overwhelmed
so absorbed and so withdrawn
so that my senses were left
deprived of all their sensing
And my spirit was given
an understanding not understanding
which is all knowledge transcending
He who somehow reaches this state
loses himself in himself
all that he once had knew before
now seems to be so worthless
And his knowledge so soaring
so that he is left in unknowing
which is all knowledge transcending
The higher is his ascending
the less does he understand
that the dark clouds can also be
lighting up the darkest night
Whoever knows what this means
remains always in unknowing
which is all knowledge transcending
This knowledge in unknowing
is so overwhelming
that even wise men disputing
can never overthrow it
For their knowledge does not reach
to the understanding of not understanding
which is all knowledge transcending
And this sacred supreme knowledge
is so high and exalted
that no power of man and learning
can get close to grasping it
Only he who masters himself
will with knowledge in unknowing
indeed be always transcending
And if you should want to hear
this highest knowledge lies
in the loftiest highest sense
of the essence of God
This work of His mercy
leaves one without understanding
which is all knowledge transcending....
