One thing I will say for KD: He may be a jerk or have a big ego, his championships may not mean as much as others, but credit where it’s due: In 2017, he averaged 35 in a finals series on nearly 70% true shooting. I don’t care what team you’re on, that’s a great performance.

@@nomercyinc6783 I'd say Paul being traded in his 7th season is pretty different from KD going to Golden State in his 10th season. And KD had many contending teams before going to GS but came up short. Paul didn't have any contending teams in New Orleans and didn't really choke and hadn't been considered to have choked.

As a Lakers fan, I'm still so salty about this veto. If we got Chris Paul, we would've beaten the Thunder in 2012 and probably would've won the finals assuming nobody underperforms. And if the Lakers still get Dwight Howard, then he could've recovered in timely fashion after the back surgery and probably would've beaten the Spurs and Heat in the finals.

@@Letthat I think you're forgetting WHY the Mavs beat the Heat. Either way, the heat WASHED the Thunder who washed the Lakers. if the Lakers get CP3, it would still be INCREDIBLY hard to get passed the Thunder. Then they would still have to get passed an amazing Spurs team who OKC beat in a close 6 games. Then finally you would face a Heat team with everyone still pretty much in their prime. Prime LeBron without any malfunctioning, DWade before the knees, and CB was still great this year. Along with the fact that the heat had some solid depth too which the Lakers would have lacked after the trade. Losing Pau would be a huge blow for 2012 and I don't think they get passed OKC. in 2013 though, they have a really good shot to make the finals with Dwight assuming he stays healthy. But they would be beaten by a Heat team with the best version of LeBron on both sides of the court. DWade, although he did now have his knee stuff, he was still great. Bosh usually came up when it mattered and the heat added a, sure aging, but still accurate Ray Allen along with their depth. You're also forgetting that Kobe, although still great, was getting older. Although if he stays healthy I don't think his age matters.

exactly think of the butterfly effect of David Stern doing this. this blocked trade lead to that disasterous Nash trade as the team looked desperately to get Kobe a point guard in 2013, which led to the team being so bad Kobe had to literally play every minute of every game down the stretch to make the playoffs, which led to him tearing his Achilles which essentially ended his career. that year went so bad Howard also left in free agency. I 100% believe if this trade went through we would have gotten 3 more years of good Kobe after 2013, bc cp3 would have been the perfect remedy to take the pressure off Kobe and ease his workload, extending his career. I believe his final 3 years could have been akin or slightly better than Wizards Jordan. some other things ia Kobe would have gotten another ring, cp3 would have gotten a ring, Dwight would have a ring a lot sooner. that's 3 players alone whose legacies are drastically different just off the top of my head.

@cvaye818 also if they win a championship, Kobe could potentially have a other Finals MVP which could have raised his status in most people's GOAT Debates. Meaning he would probably be a lock for a Top 3-5 instead of people debating his place in the Top 10

Weak recap of the Demps proposed trade. The proposed trade would have sent Paul to the Lakers, Pau Gasol to the Rockets and furnished New Orleans with three top-flight NBA players in Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Lamar Odom as well as playoff-tested guard Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick that Houston had acquired from the Knicks. The Lakers trade would've netted New Orleans better players than they got from the Clippers. Stern was concerned with protecting his legacy and obviously Demps couldn't defend himself vs Stern. Pathetic

No! Lamar Odom said he only wanted to play for the Lakers and would not play for the Hornets (now Pelicans) if that trade would have went through that would have been the death of the franchise in New Orleans and we was struggling at the time (especially after Katrina) so Stern did save us. But the league has been helping franchises for years. That's what they do. Go all the way back to Patrick Ewing (a Big East player that played in the Garden in college being funneled to the Knicks), the Bulls fresh after Jordan getting 2 Top 4 picks (Chandler and Curry) in 2001 then the following year getting then Jason Williams #2 in the draft in 2002 (even though for whatever reason none of that worked out that doesn't mean it didn't happen), Jordan deciding to come back for 2 years till LeBron graduated in 2003 from high school because the league was struggling for ratings, LeBron being funneled to Cleveland (from the area), D. Rose (from there funneled to Chicago), all the times the Pelicans and Cavaliers got 1 overall picks. The league especially back the put players where they wanted to for financial reasons. But with the rise of "player empowerment" they can no longer do that. The fact a player can defacto own his own sports agency while playing is a conflict of interest in itself (LeBron James Klutch Sports), but because his worshippers love him so much they will not see the problem in that. But the league has been corrupt. But for once it didn't work in the Lakers favor (notice they didn't have a problem with Jerry West brokering a deal for his former team to fleece the Grizzlies outta Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown and some throwins) it's this big conspiracy. Had they not did that Kobe was on his way to the Bulls or Clippers. But this time it's a problem GTFOH.

Word was Stern regretted saying what he really felt because he just said the other NBA teams didn’t matter. While the Lakers would get another fleece job in (Gasol, but time showed that trade actually wasn’t bad), Stern got a little reminder from Gilbert about the Laker hegemony in the NBA. The CP3 to the Lakers saga is always fascinating to me. I only wonder how so much was affected because of one single decision. Not just with CP3, but also with guys like Anthony Davis and James Harden. I guess it did kind of work out for New Orleans in the end, I mean if they take the initial Lakers deal, they probably are unable to draft AD, and they're more than likely packing their bags for a new city, only 4 years after Seattle lost their team in an ugly mess in of itself. Plus, the Rockets pick that they would've gotten turned into Royce White, who never played in the NBA because of his fear of flying.

This is a lie and a blatant rewriting of history. The fact is, Nash was handling the ball early in the season....and was doing a bad job of it. He was old and slow and not his old self. He could still shoot, but he couldn't get to his spots the the same. That's when Kobe took up point guard responsibilities and actually did pretty well. They decided to put Nash at shooting guard, because while he couldn't move, he could still knock down open shots. Ultimately this wasn't a winning formula, but it was a logical move with the pieces they had at the time. That's why Kobe took ball handling abilities. Not because he was "selfish" and holding Nash back or something.

I think this video suffers a little from recency bias. Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol were considered very good players at the time. I think this is two-fold. Chris Paul being traded at all means whatever league exec who made those comments is 100% right. All 30 GMs were told CP3 could be had. The lakers and rockets made a trade to get the players they did and it fell through. What I think happened here is what happens all the time and we gotta be weary of this every off-season. The trade got leaked, announced, whatever you want to call it before it could be made official. Teams can agree to trades essentially and figure out the fine details on the back end. The general manager has that authority and doesn’t need the president of basketball of operations permission, but for the trade to go through he does need his yay or nay. I think what happened was David Stern and the nba as the operating presidents of basketball operations let the GM know Chris Paul is on the trade block. They let all 30 teams know he could be had for the right price, and David Stern told his Gm to go get the job done. If he knew he needed David Sterns yes or no for the trade to go through why would he agree to a trade that he knew would be “going behind your back”? The trade got announced behind it wasn’t fully approved and David Stern said my hand will not be forced and I don’t like the trade. Which he has the power to do. Dale Demps should’ve asked him before the trade got announced if he can help it idk that far, but if not then it’s an unfortunate set of circumstances that fall on Dale Demps. I understand they had the power, but I agree David Stern didn’t care about the players. He cared about the league as a business. He learned later on the players are the league…

How can they veto this trade but not Kevin Durant

They owned the Hornets. David Stern was the owner of the team. He is not the owner of any team Durant has ever been on.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but they traded him for a bunch of bums and made him play with the clippers one of the garbages teams in the NBA instead of letting him go to the Lakers that had a much better deal and the way I remember the deal they had already traded Lamar Odom to Dallas to open up space

I'm glad that Chris Paul didn't get traded to the Lakers. The Lakers doesn't need any championships just like the Celtics, Bulls, Warriors, and Spurs. It's time for these low-market teams to finally get a championship and get superstars to come to them. Spread the talent around to these low-market teams instead of these big-market teams getting them all the time

I though the biggest lie from the NBA was calling your own national champion as "world champion"

NGL Paul to the Lakers made no sense. Kobe was a one man show on offense and needed only bigs to demand doubles in the post and to get rebounds. A ball dominate, small pass first guard wouldn’t help Kobe at all unless he was a spot up shooter. Let’s be real, you need your big time players to play big in close games and during that point in lakers history those big possessions were reserved for Kobe time. Paul is useless as a spot up shooter when Kobe says give me the ball and gtfo the way.
