This is a return to form for you guys! I love it so much! The harmony in the synth in the verses reminds me of This Disaster (throwback, right?) Could be 'cause they're in the same key.

The thing is that the song is about happiness and, I am sorry, but you look sad both of you.

Sorry to disappoint; I really like this song. Really, I tried hating it to make you happy, but funky milkshakes overpowered me.

Well its not that hard to polarize: take a great song, tank it and there you have it. Not really an accomplishment.

Candice Joergan No way, Candi Jo!! This performance was just some lovely fun with a classic, which I genuinely and sincerely found to be cool . . . Unfortunately -- as other comments here suggest -- the Funk Purists of the world have their panties twisted into a smoldering atomic wedgy over this as a perceived sacrilege against The Godfather Of Soul. The unrelenting close-mindedness, damp cigarette butts, cold pizza, and constant frowning that pervade these people's lives gives one pause.

I don't mind softer versions of songs, but I agree this one didn't fit well with their style.

Andoeriz No, that's not what I'm trying to say. If you hear the original, Mr Brown puts lots of power and passion into the singing as well as the trumpet players. It gives the song a very jubilant/excited feel. To perform the song as soft as Pomplamoose has it bleeds most of that power and passion. How she performs this is fitting in with the style of some of their other songs but I've heard them do angry and passionate too.

I don't know I feel this arrangement offers a tad bit more interest than the original ever did. The original had spirit for sure, but always felt repetitive to me.

Soul IS repetitive! It's about rhythm and heart and balls. No, scratch that...BAWLS!!! Big ones! Soul ain't a soft sell...it's in your face...makes you shake your ass...move your feet. PomplamooseMusic I like Pomplamoose. I just don't like this rendition of the song. You wouldn't tell a friend they did an awesome job when they just did meh. Basically this song is all about getting up and breaking it down, and this rendition didn't make me feel like boogeying at all. Spock has to boogey when he feels good.

LOL it's far from rock n' roll, it's not a parody, it's a cover. And actually, despite whatever your skewed opinion may be, a lot of people like this, including me. It's an electronically infused modern take on a classic. And if you don't like it, tell them why you don't like it instead of saying "You can't do that. It sucks." Don't be ignorant and help people instead of insulting them.

Parody's mock. This is in tribute. JP and JD nailed it. But AB, you are right in the sense that it's almost impossible to make a cover of a classic better than the original. I think one should make it different (and/or better-subjectively) if you're going take on the challenge. For example: The Beatles. A lot of artist's--signed and unsigned--have covered Beatles songs but never did them as well as the original's IMO. (I could make an arguement maybe for Joe Cocker's version of "A Little Help From My Friend's) but, if you are hip to Pomplamoose, then you get it. Sometimes, what you don't play is more important than what you do play. The space let's the song breath and build tension. It lets you focus on what the artist choose's to enhance, and you can make your assement's (like it or not) based on what they offer you. BTW, the original is Soul or Funk...not Rock and Roll. If I were to try to put this in a box, I would call it Alternative, but yeah...why does it suck? Because you don't like it doesn't offer much.
