This movie is a great example on how to apply the law of attraction and increase one's manifestation powers. I used to read articles with titles like "You are ugly and that's okay." And those type of articles online just made me feel bad about myself. After seeing this trailer, I wanted to watch this movie. And then start (again) listening to safe, well-researched subliminals instead of reading self-pity articles that are not healthy at all. We shouldn't be harsh on ourselves.

If you are confident, should you not be confident enough to go hit the gym and understand that obesity is bad for you instead of the world having to shout it out loud? And if you are confident and presume everything to be possible, exercising a little and eating healthy should be realistic possibilities too. And confidence doesn't attract people, charm, both physical and mental, does.

Losing weight for a lot of people is not as easy as "go workout and eat healthy", it's so much harder than that and it takes so much more time. And even if you are going to the gym and have plans of becoming thin there is that time frame where you don't exactly have that model body just yet and that's where the idea of confidence comes in. Even people with perfect model bodies struggle with self confidence sometimes and really no one should. We're all human.

Yeah and making excuses is so much easier. No one who is in good shape got it without sweating it out. Do not belittle there perseverance and equate it to your complacency. Of course it takes time. That is what people do. Years of going chomp chomp makes you fat. Months of strict healthy diets and exercises make you healthy which is obviously not as pleasurable and one would much rather sit back and eat the junk. And losing weight for a lot of people is exactly that. And there is a silver lining of better physical and mental health that you might have missed out on.

For example, the scene at 0:35 where Amy gets annoyed at her friend for claiming she has low self esteem despite being conventionally pretty is absolutely terrible and completely invalidates the feelings of a lot of people who are unhappy about how they look. J Fo she doesn't see herself as a slim woman. She sees herself as she is and loves herself for it. In Shallow Hal, he sees her as a slim woman and that's what attracts him to her in the first place. This movie has nothing to do with how people see her but how she sees herself and this is empowering for women who are constantly being told how they should look. And no. There is no standard of beauty. There is our own standard of beauty. What you conceive to be beautiful is different to what I conceive to be beautiful.

When you're that pretty, people are constantly 1) telling you so, 2) buying you stuff, 3) trying to get with you, etc. You become very aware of your value in the 'dating marketplace' and you have all the options at your finger tips. Feeling desired isn't a 'battle' for these women unless they make it so themselves. *Which is not to say that a woman's value resides solely with her looks btw, but good looks gives her the most options. Being intelligent adds even more options. Being funny even more, being low drama even more, etc. More desirable qualities = more options. I think that's the crux of what Amy's getting at with this movie, that some people have it so easy because of the genes they're born with. It can be very frustrating when you're on the outside looking in. But I think retitling the movie so that the word 'pretty' might be defined a bit less by physical beauty and a bit more by internal beauty would've been a cool angle. Kind of like how there are different kinds of intelligence (math/science, artistic, athletic, etc.) Just my two cents though, cheers.
