Award is for weekly music show that they wanted for over 5 years(8for minx) and at this point they dont believe that they will get one. A glorious day for every insomnia.
Not to forget the tears from all the fans as well as the members. I'm pretty sure most fans had to cry with them watching them finally getting this LONG overdue first win.
I remember for BOTH wins I just accidentally tuned in at the right moment for the livestreams and thinking: "no way, right?" and proceeding to bawl my eyes out.TWICE.
This latest anniversary was extra significant for Dreamcatcher, for several reasons . :- 1. They debuted on Friday the 13th, January 2017, and their 6th anniversary in January 2023 was the first time their anniversary has fallen on a Friday. 2. 2022 has been a year of many breakthroughs for them. The fandom has been growing greatly especially since the Dystopia Trilogy, but COVID meant the girls couldn't tour for 2 years. When they started touring again in 2022, the girls suddenly saw much larger crowds of Insomnias than they ever experienced. Especially for their European tour in November, they sold out shows in much larger venues than they had ever performed in before. But psychologically, the biggest breakthrough for them was .... 3. Their first 2 Music Show wins. I'm no expert in K-pop, but this much I know: every weekend in South Korea, the various TV networks produce music shows where artists go to perform and promote their new releases. There are about 4 or 5 such shows every weekend. Each show will have a winner, determined by chart success, fan voting and judge's opinion, with each show having their different formula. Winning 1st place in a music show proves that you are a "success" in K-pop.. On 20th April 2022, Dreamcatcher finally won in a music show. They set a record for the longest time between debut and a first win. Generally speaking, any group that fails to achieve a win within 3 to 5 years of debut will disband. SO much more to say...... A few days ago, Dreamcatcher announced a U.S. our in March 2023. They're playing venues about 2X the size of heir 2022 North America tour. Edited for grammar.
@@orientalcaesar There are some small misunderstandings here. The show was MIXNINE, produced by YG himself. Happyface actually won the show, with Woo Jinyoung, the member of D1CE, a boy group belonging to HF, winning the #1 place. Regarding Happyface aka Dreamcatcher Company. It's not that small. It's the subsidiary of Imagine Asia, a media company belonging to Chaebols. The thing is that Imagine Asia faced financial difficulty after a member of the family seemed to have embezzled money from the company. Fortunately, that didn't affect DCC that much, as Dreamcatcher started getting double sales. MIXNINE also didn't seem to affect Dreamcatcher. They did so many things after that. D1CE on the other hand were really affected and Jinyoung never debuted with the other MIXNINE winners, as YG cancelled the debut. YG tried to take members away from the other companies with 2 year contracts (like Jinyoung and JiU from HF) and it all fell apart.
This song started as a thank you letter to the fans, but it quickly became Dreamcatcher's most viral MV, breaking records each day. I guess the beautiful sincere emotions in the song touched a lot of people. Plus, it's a good Rock song, with amazing vocals and rap parts.
I saw a comment somewhere else, that pointed out how the three raps go: Dami + Sua, then Dami and then Gahyeon + Dami. And this is also somewhat how the rap line in dreamcatcher has evolved. I thought that was really cool, and a nice way to portray their growth as a group and with InSomnia
22:56 This is their first ever win on a music show...their first trophy after 5 years debut as Dreamcatcher (and 8 years if includes Minx years)...all their hard works & determination paid off...FYI, they actually stopped mention anything about winning awards few years before their first win, probably they don't want to make their fans sad, or maybe...deep inside their heart, they almost lose hope...who knows...
Yeah. BUT they never stopped making music and having fun things for the fans to enjoy. There was always that glimmer of hope but it was definitely faded almost to nothing before they FINALLY got the win. They had instead focused on making friends in the industry. They would play games back stage and make sure to include everybody around them from members of other groups to all the staff around them (whether their own company staff or not). They made sure everybody was in good spirits back stage, including people they were up against in competition. REAL SWEETHEARTS, actual angels when off stage.
I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of them. They're flexing their rock and vocal muscles, while all three rappers make an appearance. InSomnia might be lifting them up, but they should know, they are also carrying us. Happy 6th anniversary, Dreamcatcher! Can you imagine this song live? With us InSomnia going Whoooo-whoooaaa and them singing over it? 😊 I wouldn't be surprised if the animations were done by a fan, I seem to recognize the style. Whoever did them, they did a great job. I see the book from the Nightmare arc, the mask from Scream, the gun from R.o.S.E Blue, the gagged bust from Boca, the cup from Odd Eye, the hand through the mirror from Good Night and the clock from Piri. Musically, I am in heaven. I'm a metalhead and I love the song. AND THAT RIFF! 🤘🎸 Obviously the song is an absolute anthem! If you can afford it, please remember to purchase the MP3. I got mine from Amazon, and I love listening to the instrumental as well! By the way, it took 1923 days for them to get that Music Show win. It only happened last year, and I was projectile-sobbing. 😉
Groups from the big 4 (Hybe, YG, SM and JYP) win music show awards with their debut songs, regardless of how average the songs are. Dreamcatcher with their less popular style and small company took 1,923 days to get their first win! And that doesn't include Minx. They are called "Stair Idols" because of their determined, slow growth and that first win was a MASSIVE moment in their career - and for InSomnia.
You are right that this is primarily for the existing fans...but it is charting and the mv is the fastest of theirs to reach 10M, 15M, 20M, 25M and counting on RU-vid.
Siyeon and Gahyeon are the #1 crybabies and cry easily. 😂 SuA crying made me cry when they got their first music show with because she's usually so composed and upbeat.
Dreamcatcher set a record for the longest group to get a first win from debut 🥺 5 years!! with their years in MINX it would have been 8... Imagine going 8 years without an award for your efforts...slowly growing...AND FINALLY!! An award 🥺 it was an emotional day for Insomnias 🩷🩷
❤ love the reaction! These girls are amazing! They are back in the US. They just announced another American tour for March. Tickets are on sale now. If you can make it to one of their concerts, I would definitely recommend you to go! This song is gonna sound awesome with insomnias singing the “whoa” part!
15:35 Gahyeon needs to rap MORE! She started as just a vocalist then 2 1/2 years into Dreamcatcher they sprang rapper Gahyeon on the fans without any warning (Piri). Deja Vu doesn't have a rap section then they brought back rapper Gahyeon in Scream which is their most popular song ever and a third time in a row for Boca which is accepted as her iconic era (animated Gahyeon in Reason is from Boca). Dami and Siyeon draw a lot of attention to the group but I'm convinced when Dreamcatcher has their big breakout it will be something Gahyeon-related going viral, if they ever spotlight her rap in an album again.
The song is a look back at their roots and their growth thanks to the help of their fans. In terms of musical style, it pulls from their older Nightmare era pop/metal sound - so it makes more sense for long term fans that its hard hitting and high bpm haha. The context of the animation is that they've always been considered 'stair idols' where they would only grow slowly over time because of their concept choices (it's more common for girl groups with softer or girl crush concepts to succeed quicker in SK) - their fans broke them out of the cycle by pretty much slingshotting them to their first music show wins (the trophies you see) after almost 5 years without one. The animation also contains a lot of items and clothes featured in multiple MVs over the years to show passage of time. More subtle nods include the Dami/Sua>Dami>Dami/Gahyeon rap progression to show how they lined up in rap segments over the years. Really looking forward to your deep dive to the rest of the discography. Personally, it was an absolute delight to discover their music and personalities and I hope that you will enjoy the rest of the journey as much as I have!
Thank you for your reaction! This song has quickly become one of my top Dreamcatcher songs so far. As you catch up with their discography, I would suggest revisiting this mv once again. I guarantee you'd need a box of tissue with you for sure. Also, if you're not too particular about spoilers, I would suggest you check out the "dodging disbandment" video by mera. It would also help to add some context to what Dreamcatcher has been through.
About the award: In the K-Pop scene you're not really taken seriously or seen as "successful" unless you've won an award at a music show at some point. So including Minx it took them 8 years to get their first win 😢
I actually have to disagree with what you said at the beginning. Their heavier Rock sound actually is their 'retro' and has the nostalgic feel. They have 'softened' the sound lately. When they debuted as DC, they had a sound much closer to Metal than they have had lately. I mean, at least for the Title tracks. Obviously they have done just about everything under the sun for their b-sides.
DC is the Leonardo DiCaprio of Kpop 🌸🌺🌼🏵️🌸💠🌺🌼🏵️🌸🌺🌼🏵️💠 "The Show" award is considered a noted recognition in kpop industry among Koreans. Each year during vlogs they will be asked when they will win the award and you can see from the vlogs their enthusiasm going down while answering to the point of 5 years (or more for minx) they started taking loss in their stride. Let's not forget they never changed their genre or their style just so they could win the award. Infact "Mason" was more rock based than their previous 3 songs.
since you are new to the fandom, really you missed so many gems in the song n mv but you got it on point in geeking out. just cry!!! we were crying.. n I still cry a bit n im not ashamed of it, I'm just proud of them. fyi, they are going to the US to do their tour. Feb 28 - Mar 20. see if you can go. please react to Road to Fame by insomnicsy. its a documentary for their anniversary.
@@AntiSocialPlanet just like in Reason 4 Vocal line singing high note + 3 Rappers (Queen SUA do both🤘😄), with that I hope 'Leez & Ollounder' make music like Deja Vu + Scream + Choir (like in maison) to end this APOCALYPSE Trilogy.
Their three fan songs , REASON is my favorite... the rock sound...touching animation... lyrics and arrangement those are perfect! At the beginning of mv, those scene are Dreamcatcher's each era moment. (Chase me to Vision) And...yeah, there are a lot of reference in the mv (all about the title track and a collaboration song), hope some day when you complete the journey, can make a reaction for that too.
What new Insomnia miss: The concert montage at the very beginning was every era from Chase Me through Vision. The animations are also specific eras- Boca Gahyeon and Odd Eye Siyeon are iconic. Other members maybe just picked something they liked from Fly High, What, Piri...Yoohyeon and Handong represented the most recent eras of Maison and Vision, so the animations span their history too*. I felt nothing negative about seeing them cry though because Siyeon and Gahyeon are HUGE cry babies. One concert Handong made it through her speech without crying so Dami told her, "You're grandmother is seeing this concert" trying to make her cry (it worked). We get used to seeing them cry all the time**. * - The member animations 23:55 are Handong and Gahyeon, JiU Siyeon and SuA, Yoohyeon and Dami ** - Except Dami. They tease her about being a robot when everyone else is bawling tears but Dami stays composed and apologizes for not crying. Even the day of their first win Dami dutifully led her members (who couldn't stop ugly crying) through all the cakes and photos and ceremony that comes with winning. After that part was over though when the group was sitting and relaxing on a live to fans, even robot Dami cracked a little.
I really liked your reaction. About what you talked about at the beginning of the video. The Insomnicsy channel made a video in honor of Dreamcatcher's 6th anniversary called Road to Fame, which talks about their story.
in 100 years , they will ask : " How did the Dreamcatcher Live Life ? , and Where is she ? " , Answer will bring Tears to your Eyes , " She Lost Herself in Love and Became One with all " , She never stopped and she is always Here
from that chosen lyric video, the only mistake is the last "cause you are the reason" actually JiU not SuA. I didn't realize up until the end of lyric video I have reached more than half of this video. at first I was like wow, so long for only 1 song but it's great that you put all points to be discussed here. I feel like in this song you explained way more points than other songs connecting lyrics, vocal technique, instrumentals into the logic of how is the meaning of the song not only from the translation
@@AntiSocialPlanet yeah I understand about that, if I'm not wrong, usually 20-25 mins but this one close to 30 mins. well I shouldn't be surprised since it's a really great song, but idk why lmao
you're too polite as i don't believe in 'seniority' in fandom. You discover when you discover, no need to apologize for anything. New fans mean growth in the fan base.
DKDKTV channel made a video explaining why rock isn't popular in South Korea. The video title is "worst day in korean music history". I'm not 100% sure if the incident in the video is actually impacting DC's career, but Siyeon did mention that some k-netizen (or maybe their fans?) told them to drop their rock sound if they want to be popular
@@AntiSocialPlanet also I don't know if you checked this video "dodging disbandment and other extreme sports a history of dreamcatcher". if not, you should cause you will understand why they cried in the part when they said "we are always with Insomnia we can spend more tiiiiime togetheeeer"
Of all the bloggers who react to music videos, in my opinion the worst ones are those who put the cart before the horse. The most important thing in your video is the first emotions and it is not reasonable to spoil them with a lyric viewer spoiler. The lyrics at the end are more appropriate. Your reactions are good but not this one
I'm so glad you liked up the lyrics first. I hate it when reactors make ignorant conclusions about things they can easily find out. Your comments are brilliant and also tempered because you make it clear when you don't know something that is not easy to find out. This was one of those cases when the lyrical content was very important, especially for a newbie reaction.
I think it took me about 3-4 days of watching the video to not cry every single time I see it, but I the actual videos from the first win will break me every time. 😭Handong's voice singing they are always with InSomnia hits pretty hard. I hope you are able to go see them live. If you think that you are in love with them now seeing them perform in person will multiply that by at least 1000😁 Imagine seeing them singing this one to InSomnia directly 🥹
@@AntiSocialPlanet Oh, yes 😭 Maybe you can convert some over the next few weeks, but if not I hope you can find some InSomnia friends to go with before the next time they come back 🤞😊
