Look this is classic! You go fishing! You catch the biggest fish of your life! The true size would make for a great story by anyones measure! Yet you still tack on a few inches to the size when telling your friends! Is it bullshit or is just good story telling! Maybe both ? Lol
@@wh0ei Anybody that has jumped off of an actual 30-50 ft cliff into water more then a few times knows for a fact that that's not even close to 50 ft. That is funny though lol. If that was 50 ft then this video would be a lot more brutal. Guy was Extremely lucky that it was much less and he did not impact a more perpendicular surface..
I thought I was inside. I climb small cliffs (difficult for me) regularly in tennis shoes. I’m able to do some V4’s not all. This man was dog shit at grabbing everything!
@@Bigbadwolfanderson yah he is not free climbing either! Free climb is done with safety ropes, he’s free soloing which is nothing but chalk and pure strength and technique
The movement of this man's limbs show a complete lack on experience in rock climbing. First off, it's a scramble, and secondly maybe a 12 foot fall off that rock.
Free climbing mean climbing with a rope. Free solo climbing mean climbing without a rope Scrumbling is an activity that is a meeting point between trekking and mountainering and mostly is done without a rope. Lastly climbing doesnt imply a minimum degree of difficulty, at least not in the uiaa scale where degree start from 1 that is literally defined as using hands for keeping balance. So this is Free solo climbing yes. A second or third grade in uiaa scale climbing
Did the math based on time. The total distance is about 47ft but can't be accurately measured because he caught himself with his feet and slid for a lot of it. He was in freefall for 11ft before hitting the rock, then 11ft before hitting the ground though.
To be fair with the forshortening in the distance it doesn't look far of 50 feet to me. it's only 17 yards. A defensive wall in a footy match stands 10 yards away and that doesn't seem far from head on view
"died and came back to life seven times during my plummet. Met God and lived out a whole other life in a different universe, then woke back up in my body when my corpse landed ten thousand feet at the bottom of the mountain."
Well, yes you’re your own person and can make your own decisions but the fact that he allowed you to do that.. not a good look for his experience level
Probably banging that guys girlfriend, lured him out there knowing he can't climb, hoping nature would take it's course and filmed so he could prove he didn't push him 😂
I disagree. This was a very very easy climb, even for someone inexperienced but physically fit. The dude shouldn't be climbing anything without a rope, ever. Not the most coordinated person.
@@cw-bmexactly 😂. It is awesome when you tell normal people that you do “free climbing”. They don’t believe me or think that I a Tom Cruise in mission impossible.
This is what happens when you don’t use technique and try to free solo with vans on, never having climbed before. I’m not a climber but I know when to call it
Wow, that is the first time I’ve seen non Euclidean geometry in real life, that 50 ft was way longer than the 75 ft, and he must have grew, if he was 6 ft tall then he was only like 20 ft down, but they said he would have been 125 feet down so he was like 36 ft tall, the worlds tallest man got nothing on him
Just to clarify, free climbing involves the use of fall protection (such as ropes, anchors, and a belay partner). Free soloing is rock climbing without fall protection of any kind. Neither should be attempted without proper instruction and preparation :)
Dude was stood on a ledge and could have just rested for 20 minutes before the next move. Not even a 4+ and nearly died. Thanks for posting though jeez.
I agree with you, The Universe. I also hate running into guys like that. They got all the latest expensive toys and gear,, but do they got the smarts and common sense and respect for the environment around them… no of course not.
@@theuniverse7227 I get it. But you don't know your limits until you meet them. I'd say the dead guys found their limit and the the living ones still have no clue.
I love how he does a Dino slap grab just before falling, making it look like it was a tough grab. , it registered to me at that moment He did not know how to climb. Literally kicks him self away instead of up. Armature hour
Yep, amateur for sure. Other then stating the obvious, I was wearing Vans, not Nike “street shoes” Vans are the shit. Register this at this moment, I don’t even know which class is what, or the difference between scrambling, bouldering, or free climbing. 😲
@@TheJBCoh wait.. I just read several comments where you claimed to be an experienced climber, "been climbing my entire life since I was a kid in Alaska". And you said you're an experienced ice climber too.....
Falling guy is focusing on not dying and filmer guy is too scared to say anything thinking his friend is gonna die. I’m not surprised. Glad he survived even if he made poor climbing choices.
@@chrisss3749 The only yell I was expecting was an "Are you ok?!" at the end. Since there wasn't one, I assumed filmer guy brought falling guy out there to die. I wouldn''t expect an intentional-accident-filmer guy to yell out, but to quietly grin an evil grin. Thus my not surprised.
wtf was that? How do you mess up so badly scrambling over some boulders!?😂😂 it's not even free climbing, it's like hiking over some vertically placed rocks. Useless
Ya man you watch an experienced hiker scrambling, they are controlled quite and purposeful in their movements. Always making sure of solid foot and hand holds. This guy is like a bear on cocaine or something, i mean look at his last move before he fell. What the hell was he doing. Literally throwing his right leg out onto nothing. Utter insanity
Did the math, but it can't be accurately measured because he slid and caught himself with his feet on the rocks before freefalling and landing on the one rock. He "fell" for around 1.5 seconds before hitting a rock which is like 36ft if he didn't slide (remove his height 6ft? to get 30ft), then he fell for another 0.83 seconds unimpeded making the total fall 41ft if you remove his body height and don't care about the sliding. He isn't really exaggerating that much and if you don't remove his body height it's about 47ft. HOWEVER, he caught himself with his feet several times before hitting the rock. He was still gaining momentum, but it wasn't a 41ft freefall. More like a slide and his freefall was about 22ft total which is still painful, but far less than 50ft
A scramble/ free climb like that does not require chalk or shoes. If he is an experienced climber, he should know that you shouldn’t be using high feet like that without the right shoes
Rockdoctor🧗 it can be done in flip flops if he had the flexibility and/or had chosen better hand holds. I personally would’ve used that huge flat rock on his right and ignored those slopey holds
@@LiamRappaport you’re right, but I’ve done plenty of free solo climbs and it’s best to make smaller moves. Putting your foot above your hips is a really bad idea without protection or climbing shoes because it’s hard to balance in that situation
Yeah, I think high feet should be avoided in circumstances like this unless you have good balance and a lot of climbing experience. The trick to really high feet is leaning to the opposite side of the foot you're trying to go high with BEFORE you lift your foot. If you try to force the foot before the lean then the lean is unexpected and you'll probably fall because you haven't established yourself in the leaning position. Hope this helps someone get their feet super high 🥴
This is one of those "experienced" free climbers. I once had to stop a guy dressed like this from trying to free climb up a basically vertical cliff face because he thought he saw a "path" up to the top in northern Arizona. Some people underestimate rock climbing.
In that case you should probably just stop putting up Christmas lights cause it’s just not worth it. I mean once every few years, maybe, but every year. Damn
@@rl2769 I did take the L, I fell of an easy climb, got lucky, limped away with minimal fractures, and worst of all my new glasses flew off up there. They’re definitely lost. Also my ego took an L at first but I’m good now, I’m better then ever actually. Life is been amazing lately and I’m going to keep doing my thing. Y’all worry about you, I’ll do me and not worry at all.
No climbing shoes, no chalkbag, water bottle stuffed into his pocket. Oh yeah, about 15-20' off the ground. Another evolution fail. I climbed for years including some free routes and bouldering. Certainly had a few hairy moments. But these 2 have no business being in this situation.
Was gonna say I'm seeing a lot of comments suggesting you dont need climbing shoes for this and I agree that's a bit overboard but used Vans are like the worst shoe you could pick. They have 0 grip and tend to be quite loose, should definitely have some hiking shoes with good grip on them if you're gonna try something like this
In true Gumby fashion. That isn’t called free climbing for one. That is called “free soloing” which isn’t what you should do if you have never rock climbed before. Free climbing is actually done with a rope and traditional protection.
Damn dude! Lucky to still be here! And that you hit the only spot that wouldn’t kill you. Hope you’re okay. Also, don’t cut the clip off next time. I think most want to see how that ended
Come on man....no climbing shoes, no chalk, and obviously no skills. Free climbers are expert climbers long before they start free climbing. Hope you learned a lesson, next time you might not be so lucky.
for the record, this is not what free climbing is. Free Soloing and Free Climbing are not the same thing (I wouldn't really consider this soloing either but that's beside the point). Not tryna be a know it all, just a common misconception to clear up.
@@aidanhenn2217 Yes,.. "Free Soloing" is climbing vertical "class 5" routes withOUT any gear (rope or protection) where most people WOULD utilize ropes, a harness, protection and a partner for safety. Free Soloing means if you fall you die.. no room for error. "Free climbing" (aka "freeing a route") is just climbing class 5 routes WITH protection but withOUT using anything artificial to climb on - without grabbing and pulling up on a rope or on protection that YOU brought with you. This guy was on 4th class to low 5th class terrain withOUT any obvious skills or proper gear.
@@mattsoukup1789 Agree. It's not really a "lack of gear issue" unless the skill level calls for gear. In this case however, yes it may have been a "lack of gear issue" 😁
Glad you’re ok to tell the tale. As someone with herniated lower discs in the back, that sounded and looked painful. You’re blessed if you didn’t jack anything up
Misfit activities always get recorded on the falls, I grew up skateboarding, surfing, and downhill mountain bike riding. The reason the camera man is so calm is because he knows that’s not his first time falling like that and not his last. Wicked stuff 🤟🏻
