It doesn't take 14 months, more like 14 minutes to download the footage of the entire day and then find the time period covered in this incident. They're just stalling for time, hoping he will give up and go away.

What is it with Arizona? Why are their police and govt employees so awful?

They usually pullover rentals, specially with black/brown drivers to investigate drugs "rentals used for running drugs" this time it was a cop and they had to cover their backs with some bogus charges and case got kicked out, now they are delaying everything. this is their game, system created by them for them.

Notice the city prosecutor said the decision to pull him over was reasonable. He chose not to comment on whether the arrest was.

Hope he files the lawsuit.

Exhibition of speed is a catch all charge. It's a charge that is vague. Arresting someone for this charge is ridiculous, keeping the Body camera evidence or even redacting it for the length of time they are saying is nothing but a delaying tactic.

He should sue for 4th amendment violation and loss of wages and mental distress

As long as there is qualified immunity. Incidents like this will never end.

Welcome to OUR world Mr. Cop....I was pulled over for going 4 mph over the speed limit...69 mph on a 65 mph highway is what he said, at night, without another car within half a mile of me in any direction. (If we are being honest, it was a fishing expedition.) When he walked up and saw two doctors in the car, me in a black tuxedo and my wife in a beautiful dress, it was obvious it was a waste of time. He let us go and told me to slow down. Cops earn the hate one interaction at a time !

In 1999 NYPD falsely arrested myself and my partner. We were both NYC Correction Officers at the time and the officers knew that. Instead of doing the right thing, they decided to arrest myself for felony assault 2 and my partner of course with resisting arrest. None of this happened. After 6mos/7 court appearances, the charges were dropped. After 3yrs the departmental charges were finally dropped. No accountability back then and these kind of incidents still occur. Very sad.

He was shocked and angry because his THIN BLUE LINE gang members didn't give a crap about him being a cop ? LMAO !! Say it isn't so ! In my state it takes a freaking GED and only 560 hours at the police academy to get a badge and a gun. To contrast this, it takes 1,500 hours at a beauty school to get a license to cut hair.

The residents of AZ pay them to do a job, provide a service... if you're not happy with the service... stop paying them!

Tempe PD need DOJ oversight

I have lived in Tempe for 28 years. I have had maybe half a dozen interactions with the Tempe Police and they screwed up every single time. They can not get anything straight. From their emotional easily offended 911 operators to the cops on the street who loudly blame victims for causing crime. My neighbors (HOA) and I have long ago decided we would rather take care of problems ourselves than call the Tempe Police. Every time we called TPD, things just got worse. Every single time. I can not understand how these cops went thru the Phoenix Police Regional Training Academy, like I did, and still can be such idiots. I will follow with examples.

A few things: 1. I used to live in Tempe in the 90's. I have NEVER driven a vehicle that would be even considered close to a sports car. Between the bricks used in the cobblestone of Mill Avenue and the railroad tracks, it is VERY easy to squeal your tires accidentally. I did it in a 1981 VW Rabbit Pickup. Diesel Rabbit with a top speed of 70-75 MPH, provided it was downhill and there was a tail wind. 2. Asking about Jewelry? Sounds like they were sniffing for more than a criminal conviction. Don't they know that we have a law on the books (that Doug Dewsy signed into law) that makes civil asset forfeiture illegal? 3. Place your bets now: Will the Tempe Police have that bodycam footage 14 months from now? This is a delay tactic to get the news cycle to forget about the incident. But yeah. It's going to mysteriously disappear. 4. As for the Illinois police officer, I doubt that he didn't know "Exabition of speed" was a thing. Pretty sure Illinois has a similar law on their books. Sucks that he got caught up in Tempe PD BS for "driving while black".

Even if his tires squealed, it doesn’t mean he was racing. A slick spot on the asphalt could cause the tire to spin during a normal acceleration. This makes me wonder whether there is a location known to cause such a squeal and they use it to generate revenue from kids who don’t know how to fight back. Did your station look at statistics from traffic court to see whether certain locations or rental cars are being targeted?

Next time back in Illinois think about how you felt when you were pulled over in Arizona when you pull some one over

I was shocked, I was scared, I was treated like a common citizen!

I've was once pulled over for accelerating quickly (in a MINIVAN-not that quickly, and no way there was any squealing tires!) to get out of the way of a big black pickup truck I saw closing rapidly behind me. I accelerated to clear the car I was slowly passing, and then moved over so the bully-acting truck could pass. The truck turned out to be a Maricopa County deputy. He said I accelerated too fast. I think he was going to ticket me. But didn't when I was able to give him a play-by-play of HIS poor driving that prompted me to get out of the way. Plus I had a dashcam, LOL! Saddest thing was, this deputy was training a rookie. The paper trail of complaints is the first step. Then hopefully this man files a lawsuit and can get paid. Then getting more and more information about these horrid practices and taxpayer payouts out to the general public. That's the hardest step. Once the general public is more aware of this going on (too many think all police are heroes), that's when real change can be demanded: cut the power of police unions through legislation, get rid of the worst officers, change policies and training to get back to the 'protect and serve' function that police are meant to have, and lower ticketing charges and fines and/or legislate that those funds go towards funding community programs (help kids, increase mental illness services, work to reduce homelessness, etc.) instead of the police budget or court budget.

When said he was LE that really made them mad. Arresting him was "putting him in his place". This is no different than when blk men couldn't speak on their military service. For alot of them it didn't end well.

I thought only Phoenix had issues like this. Maybe the DoJ needs to look at Tempe.

Tempe still doing the dumb s&%t...they actually fabricated a DUI stop I was convicted of in 2013 that I plan on bringing to light in a future documentary. As a 2nd year graduate student in New Media Journalism I can appreciate this story and the work put into to it to bring it to light. Reminding your audience that these things still persist is a reminder to me why I am on the path that I am on.
