Oh.. great memories!! Thank you!! I love DA:I and I played it many times. Such a great game. I love the ability to upgrade the Keep and watching it's getting better and better looking was very rewarding. That view from the balcony in the bedroom is amazing. I also usually prefer to 100% complete each area before moving on. The Descent was my favorite DLC too.
I love the game don't get me wrong this is not a criticism of negativity but I did kind of want the different choices you can make about skyhold to be impactful in the gameplay it was a bit bottom heavy but I love the way that spending time upgrading things in Awakening lead to a better outcome actual graphical changes in the cutscenes etc
Ive never played a dragon age or mass effect game , i have mass effect legendary edition but no dragon age games , im here after seeing veilguard trailers and gameplay, should i play this game or any of the previous dragon ages aswell before veilguard ?
Nothing has topped Dragon age origins since it released back in 2009. And none of those developers worked on the newest Dragon age game. Certain zones were great and others were outsourced and were not great. But after i beat this once i cannot get past the palace i get board.
Unfortunately I've heard from some people that leaks on Dragon Age 4 indicate a more similar combat style to Inquisition. Seems like Bioware completely moved on from the earlier titles.
Weird game DAI. I've never played a game I've wanted to love but just didn't. Some of this game is absolutely amazing but also some parts like the writing in parts and game design was just awful. I played through it in full at least two times and I regret that I did. The DLC is definitely very good though and absolutely worth playing through. The main game needs a remake badly. It would be an awesome game if you cut out some of the cancer parts. The companions, the inquisition, the Templars, and the Quanari were all good to great. Seemed like willful incompetency in how badly the grey wardens, olesians, "rebel" mages, dark spawn, venatori, and main-ish villain were written. Honestly, I don't really care about playing another DA game because Thedas is too derpy after the bad DAI writing. I'd rather play good DA and replay the first two games. It's a cool world Bioware created so I'll still watch the in-game cut scenes on youtube after the 4th game releases.
Amazing points. Dragon Age Inquisition has been one of my favorite games since 2014 (along with Witcher as soon as it came out the year after). I watched your videos to reminisce on the game since I miss it so much and thought of it a lot on my playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3 now. I love how you summarized the feel of the game and addressed really valid points without compromising the story for those who would want to experience it. Really great job! :) I am really curious to hear your thoughts about Origins and Dragon Age II! :)
Wanted to add that the reason I miss it during my Baldur’s Gate 3 is the character banter. It was quite entertaining and happening often, and I wish there was more banter and talking in BD3. Thank you again for playing the game and making this video!
I had a nearly identical experience with this game. All in all, I'd say that there's a lot to love in this game, but the places where it trips up are kind of crucial things that lose players. You never want the player to feel BORED playing your game. The biggest disappointment for me was the absence of the incredible atmosphere of Origins. In DAO, it really felt like Thedas was a living, breathing world with many layers of complexity and history beneath the surface of what your character was doing. DAI's Thedas felt almost juvenile, empty, and milquetoast by comparison.
My girlfriend confirms this after going through her second playthrough of Origins. Makes me very excited to play since I now know it still holds up to this day!
I had basically the same reaction as you, amplified by my love for Origin. I just couldn't get on with how... arcadey? it felt, and having not long finished DD at the time the combat was a killer (Damn Dragons Dogma, you ruined me). Then I finished college, life got busy and my console died so it just kinda became a forgotten relic on my shelf. I recently finished Dragon Age Origins again after picking up the full collection on Steam and it was somehow better than I remember, I intended to play through the whole series finally, but after finishing Origins I just lost steam thinking about having to play through the next ones and remembering my brief experience with Inquisition. This video has somewhat brought back the urge to play through the rest of the series so I'm glad you went ahead with it. Now I just need to not be spoiled by Dragons Dogma 2, considering the 12 year gap since DD1 I'm baffled my urge to play Inquisition has been reignited once more only to be destroyed for a second time by Capcom. The world works in mysterious ways, or Capcom just doesn't want me playing Inquisition.
Destiny itself seems to be preventing you from finishing Inquisition lol. It does make me excited that you mentioned Origins was better than you remember. My main concern with that game was that whether people were viewing it through rose-tinted glasses, but the more I learn about it, it just sounds like it has a very good reputation for a reason. I was able to watch all the trailers since I used some scenes for the past two videos and it really seems right up my alley, especially because I'm big on dark fantasy more than high fantasy. I'll get to that game after DD2 though, but's high on my priority list. Also, you're in the end screen bro! Really appreciate the support, that means so much to me as a small channel.
@@Kaganath It really is one of those genre classics that is very hard to dethrone. I can't say it's perfect as it's a lot more methodical and clunky than some of its contemporaries, but the characters, lore and story are, in my humble opinion, top of the pack. It reminds me a little of the Witcher series in the way the series progressively gets smoother, cleaner and more pleasant to play but also easier, homogenous and less complex. Also, of course. You're making solid videos and I'm more than happy to support the effort you're clearly putting in. Hope to be here a long time and I'm looking forward to the games you cover in future.
Sadly DAO lovers will never agree because the story isn’t as in depth despite the gameplay being leagues better older gamers also love strategy and tactical games and playing DAI like that is not enjoyable at all😂
@@molerm9442 I’m 50… I don’t think it’s an issue of age. I’m able to love DA:O, DA:I and anxiously await DA:TV because I still find joy in new experiences… I continue to experience the world in a fresh way each day. I make room for change and growth in my own life. So many people today, of all ages, want to lash out at anything that doesn’t conform to their narrow view of what should be, instead of finding joy in things as they are.
DA:I wore me out, but that was my fault. Being a completionist I did too much in each zone. A shorter, more focused, play through would have been better. I need to play the DLC before DA:VG comes out. Cheers
I feel the side quest are a mixed bag I just don’t like being forever to do so many because of the power system but I still love the game. Some side quest are awesome and others boring. I honestly missed questing in vanilla wow and this kind of gets my fix
I just finished playing through Origins, the first installment in Dragon Age and I feel they did the side quests much better. Inquisition's world was large, but Origin's felt more lived in. I definitely recommend it if you're open to playing older games.
Never completed it upon rekease. Replaying it now and its aged just fine, hell! Does some things better than modern games, like being able to zoom out and play it like a strategic rpg ala baldurs gate...if you fancy. The writink/dialogue is great too and the graphics are still great.
I came to the same conclusion re: game feel but I liked it more. Playing as a Mage felt great to me because, as you said, I wasn’t whiffing at my enemy with a nerf weapon so it didn’t feel floaty. My enemy just pausing and losing health or stopping in place felt realistic when casting ranged energy from my staff.
After replaying this game as a rogue, I and now having the opportunity to play all three classes, I'll say Mage might be my favorite in this one. Despite not having the variety of spells that it had in Origins, Inquisition's mage just feels good and satisfying to play!
I just can't make it click with this game. I just get burned after the second area. too much useless fetch quests, too much mmo ARPG vibe. Not enough character sheet material (when diablo 3 has more depth than your game, you know you're doing it wrong, becasue D3 is very wrong in that department). It's just too shallow. At least the mass effect series had some punch behind it, so even if the rpg part was not that deep, you actually had fun. But DA:I... I just can't forgive EA for forcing bioware to abandon the CRPG genre, which they were masters of, t o make action games. And we all know where that went...
Floaty! That's the word I've been looking for. Thank you! For context, this feeling of physics (especially combat and movement) is prevalent in 7th gen console games, and extended to early stage 8th gen. I noticed it while playing remastered PS3 games on PS4, but could pinpoint the feeling with words for a while.
Floaty combat's one of my biggest pet peeves in gaming! I'm hoping Veilguard doesn't have it but I guess we'll just have to try it out once the game releases.
You mean not being able to access the DLC due to EA's buggy client and servers? If so then I haven't experienced it luckily. My girl didn't experience it too throughout her playthrough of all three games but I can't say for sure if that's consistent with most people. I still get errors though when trying to sync golden nugs from time to time.
After you complete the main story line. I heard certain expansions should be played last due to difficulty. So, is there an order in which you should choose to play the DLC's? I am only 20 hours into the game, but I know eventually I will reach this point, any tips?
The only thing i hate about DAI some times are the exploration, Its so demn Boring :< Im wishing I could just teleport directly to any main/side quests without running around the maps. But overall its fun and replayable :>
So to recap Story is meh Combat kinda sucks Tons of fetch quests tons of regions but some are very generic looking (seen in video) Only redeeming thing of this game is some of the DLC. Yeah, I'm gonna take this outta my backlog and put it in the hidden section (I've tried it 2 times as well and couldn't get into it).
The shit games in the last 10 years made you realize what a good game was and imo a rather underrated one, it got a lot of hate for some reason but loved it.
@Kaganath no, it just crashes after the initial boot up; if I switch to a new game and then switch back it'll let me load to the menu but then it crashes it again
I couldn't even bring myself to play this a second time. It was so boring, and they cut out all the depth of RPG elements. It's just game designed by committee, with monetization being a focal point
I bought the Mass Effect collection and after ten hours or so I had to stop playing because of a gamebreaking bug, I bought Battlefront 2 and somehow cannot find matches and now I bought Inquisition that is visually already not pretty and characters started flying after three hours..... Still I will try to win the fight against EA and finish this one.
@@Mark_Supanat So far it is very mediocre but definetely far away from bad. If you have the time you should try it. I bought it for four euroes. Can´t complain
@@Mark_SupanatI would say yes it is, but don't get bogged down by small quests if you don't want to do them, and try to get out of the Hinterlands and into other areas as soon as you can.
