Hey, it looks great. However, like all similar tents, it's pretty thick. Do you think it's possible to make it slim, or there is some reason behind the thickness? (apart from aerodynamics and making the back thicker than the front).
@PatrickRemington
@PatrickRemington 2 года назад
@@szymonkedzior I like to keep my collapsable ladder and some bedding in the tent so I don't have to pack it inside the car that's why I build mine a little thicker but you definitely don't have to build it that way. You can make it much thinner without any problem.

I really love this video, I wanted to just take a few minutes to check it out and save it for later, but once watching it, I couldn't turn it off. I think you do a terrific job of explaining things. I really want to take on this job even though it is way over my head, and I really don't have the time to dedicate to it. I don't have the money to buy one, but I really want one, so hopefully I can start the project and just go at my pace. Even if it doesn't work out I have learned a lot just by watching this. Thanks for teaching us and making it look easy!

01/27/2022 Hello Patrick, I was just thinking about closing the openings next to your truck on both sides and maybe under the truck to stop the wind and some rain. The openings could be covered with a piece of tarp held in place on the truck with magnets. Like Velcro, magnets can be glued to the tarp and attached to the truck metal body. The top closure could be string tied to the tent frame since the weight of the tarp will be supported by the magnets on the truck. You could close the tent to the tarp with magnets also both front side and rear side. Now for the breeze you could make a tarp between the truck body and the ground attached to the metal with magnets. You could also cover over the hood above the plastic trim down with magnets. Simple cheep and easy. To connect the tarp to the sidewalls you can glue the magnets to the new tarp and use loose magnets on the outside of the tent at that opening. That may make a 30 degree evening feel like a 45 degree evening. Sincerely Don

Absolutely brilliant!!! Sure as heck beats dropping $4k on a fabric domicile. Two thoughts... 1. You might silicone all the screw holes in the aluminum trim around the outside and on the piano hinge. Driving through a good rainstorm will force water into areas like that. It'll help prevent rot that you won't see for years. 2. You might want to add some 1" black webbing strips in each of the tall vertical corners. It looks like that is where the fabric is tightest and will be susceptible to stretching. Loose fabric on a RTT sounds like a thundering hurricane in the slightest of breezes on a cool, quiet mountain evening. ***Gotta admit, I stole that idea from my CVT tent that has reinforcement webbing stitched on the inside of the tent. 3. Third and bonus tip...I know I said two...maybe seam seal the stitching around the zippers?!?! It'll help keep those areas waterproof in driving rain. (Seriously. One bad rain storm at 12k feet above Telluride and I found ALL the weaknesses in my overpriced and overhyped CVT!)
