I finally got to photograph this local forest! Over the past few years I've really, really come to enjoy photographing my local landscapes. This particular forest is only 7 minutes from home and I have been waiting for so long to get to photograph it with fog! In this video, I explain how yo can improve your local landscape photography and how I think the pandemic was beneficial for the landscape photography community.
MASTER LOCAL LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY (Ends 11 October).

What I found during the pandemic was my neighbours told me of walks they'd been on from their front door that passed canals and woods. I didn't know these existed so finding them opened up a whole new work for my photography.

For me personally during the pandemic, it wasn't as much getting out locally that made the difference to my work, it was undertaking a range of processing tutorials from various professionals including yourself Mads to improve in this area and your Photoshop for Landscape Photographers really opened my eyes to what could be achieved by applying your teachings. Lovely images this week too, a really beautiful ethereal feel to them

I found my love for landscape photography during the pandemic and my job gave me so much spare time, that I binged a ton of landscape photography videos on YT. I am still so glad that this gave way to an somewhat artistic side of me that I was always hoping I had in me. Living in Northern Germany I share a similar landscape than you Mads, but your perspective and ethusiasm on this for some people - even for myself at times - uninspiring landscape always, lifts me up and challenges me when I tend to get uninspired again. Truly and honestly -thanks for that Mads. And if you should ever consider of doing a workshop in Denmark... I would be tempted :-)

Your forest is so open where as here in the midwest,USA our forest all seem to be so full of undergrowth that its difficult to get good photos, love these fog photos

Great video and beautiful images. Goes to show that you don't need epic locations to make great images.

For me the pandemic didn't really hurt my photography that much, but it did force me to do some things that I had been putting off, like cleaning up my photo library from probably 8 years of photos. By this I mean pruning out photos that needed to be deleted and gone forever, organizing my photo library, etc. Of course this didn't take two years, as I was able to complete it over about a 2 week period. But without being forced to stay indoors for longer periods of time, it would have likely never happened. Plus it allowed me to go through some of my old photos (which I make a routine now) and critique them and think about what I could have done differently, so it also helped me develop some exercises I can do to help improve my photography as well (like the critique an review, which I think is good to do from time to time, and even just compare to see how you've progressed over the years)

I live on an island of only 25 square miles but the biggest challenge is not lack of possibility, it is time.

it's right to look for photos close to home but you have to be lucky and live in a nice place. Denmark is beautiful and you are lucky, I am too because I live in Italy and I have many photographic ideas close to home 😊

I'd argue most people live in beautiful places, they just need to get rid of their "home blindness" ;)

Thank you for another good and inspiring video. I have a question regarding the photos you show at the beginning with the forest tracks. I really like them, but at the same time, I am wondering why they work 😊. To me, they do not have a clear subject; they have leading lines and the framing of the road, but no clear subject. Is the lack of a subject actually what makes them work, as the road leads to the unknown, creating interest about what is just around the corner? Like an invisible subject?

I'm not very inspired by woodland photography despite living next to some lovely woodland but on a winters day a girl walked past and a sudden blizzard appeared, out came the pocket camera and 'click'. Not a very good quality photograph but that all adds to the mood of it. For me if there is not a person or an animal in the photograph it tends to die?

Wouldn't you just crit your pants if a Harvest Golem came lumbering out of the forest for you? 😉⚔🛡

Sorry mads, love your stuff normally, but in this one while you talk non stop about how awesome local photography is you show at the same time pictures that I don't think are from denmark (around 9:13 for example, sorry if I'm wrong). I really tried hard to get the best out of my local landscape but other than a few good shots there's nothing (atleast for me) visually pleasing about it. I mean there is a reason why people travel Iceland/USA/Dolomites or just great landscapes in general, because for many people, their local landscapes are just straight up boring.

That's completely fair, all photos I show are from Denmark. That's actually also the point. You may have more variety and interesting locations than you think. Years ago I thought exactly the same as you and it took foreign eyes to tell me I live in a beautiful location.
